Abstract Background and purpose: Considering that pregnant women are among the high-risk groups during the outbreak of infectious diseases, the purpose of this study is to investigate the complications of pregnancy and childbirth in pregnant women who were infected with (Covid-19). Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, which was conducted from 2020 to 2022, 100 pregnant women who were referred or sent to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Sari due to complaints ,such as fever, shortness of breath, cough or diarrhea and were suspected of having pneumonia caused by COVID-19 (according to biochemical and imaging criteria) were admitted to the hospital and treated, and the complications of pregnancy and childbirth were investigated. Results: In the infected pregnant women, there was a statistically significant difference in the severity of the covid disease in different peaks (P=0.002), such that 71% of these individuals had more severe involvement of covid disease in the third peak. Hospitalization for preterm labor (P=0.019) and amniotic fluid disorders (P=0.004) were significantly more common in the second peak than in other peaks. In the second peak, the amount of abnormal amniotic fluid in the third trimester was higher than in the other peaks (P=0.05). 66.7% of reasons for termination of pregnancy in severe cases of COVID-19 were due to maternal problems, which was significantly more than fetal cases (P=0.043). Conclusion: Due to the high risk of maternal and neonatal consequences of Covid-19 during pregnancy, special precautions should be taken during this period to prevent infection with this disease.

Abstract Background and purpose: Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) is an environmental pollutant that has genotoxic and carcinogenic effects. Atorvastatin (ATV), as a lipid-lowering drug, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic properties. This study investigated the effects of ATV on chronic liver and kidney damage induced by BaP. Materials and methods: In this experimental study, adult female rats were randomly divided into seven groups (n= 8 per group), including control group, olive oil group, ATV group (10 mg/kg), BaP groups (10 and 20 mg/kg), and ATV + BaP groups (10 and 20 mg). The drugs were administered by oral gavage for ten consecutive days. Histopathologic evaluation of the liver and kidney tissues was done one month after drug administration. Results: Histopathologic changes in both liver and kidney tissues such as inflammatory cell infiltration, plasma leakage, reduced acidophilia of hepatocytes, and renal tubular cells were seen in the groups receiving BaP. Findings showed that BaP at 20 mg/kg caused more serious harm than that at 10 mg/kg. ATV treatment protected structural changes in liver and kidney tissues. Conclusion: Current study showed that destructive effects of benzopyrene remain until one month after administration. The protective effects of atorvastatin against benzopyrene-induced hepatotoxicity were confirmed over time.

Abstract Surfactants are one of the main groups of pollutants released into aqueous solutions due to human activities and their harmful effects have been proven on human. In this study, first, magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MMWCNTs) were synthesized and then, the effects of operating parameters such as surfactant concentration, adsorbent dosage, and pH values were analyzed on the adsorption process. MMWCNTs were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The optimal adsorption conditions were achieved at initial pH = 4.6, adsorbent concentration = 0.5 g/L, and initial SDS concentration = 15 mg/L. In addition, the equilibrium of sorption reached after 120 min and the maximum capacity of SDS for monolayer coverage was found to be 61 mg/g at 25°C. Kinetic studies were performed under optimal conditions and the sorption kinetics was described using the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The experimental data were studied using Freundlich, Langmuir, and Sips models. Finally, the experimental data were fitted reasonably by Langmuir isotherm. The results demonstrated that MMWCNTs with respect to their high adsorption capacity, relatively low equilibrium time, and capability to be separated from aqueous solutions (after adsorption) could be applied to wastewater treatment.

Abstract Abstract Background Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disease, characterized by impaired social communication, executive dysfunction, and abnormal perceptual processing. It is more frequent among males. All of these clinical manifestations are associated with atypical neural development. Various genetic and environmental risk factors are involved in the etiology of autism. Genetic assessment is essential for the early detection and intervention which can improve social communications and reduce abnormal behaviors. Although, there is a noticeable ASD incidence in Middle East countries, there is still a lack of knowledge about the genetic and molecular biology of ASD among this population to introduce efficient diagnostic and prognostic methods. Main body In the present review, we have summarized all of the genes which have been associated with ASD progression among Middle East population. We have also categorized the reported genes based on their cell and molecular functions. Conclusions This review clarifies the genetic and molecular biology of ASD among Middle East population and paves the way of introducing an efficient population based panel of genetic markers for the early detection and management of ASD in Middle East countries.

Abstract Background: Diabetes can cause undesirable changes in structure of the placenta, re-sulting increase in size and weight of placenta. The aim of this study was, to investigate the placenta weight, size and birth weight of infants in pregnant women with controlled gestational diabetes compared with normal pregnancy. Methods: This study was conducted from October, 2012 to February, 2014 in two dif-ferent hospitals, Valiasr and Shariati Hospitals in Tehran. Sixty-seven healthy singleton pregnant and 42 pregnant women with diabetes were selected during 26-28 weeks of gestational ages. Glucose tolerance tests (GTT) were performed to evaluate blood glu-coses. Blood glucoses were controlled in diabetic cases very well. Length and width of the placentas were measured using ultrasonography during pregnancy. After termina-tion of pregnancy, placental weights were measured and recorded using weighting scale with 10 gram accuracy by someone who didn't know about diabetes status. Baby weights were measured after birth and initial stabilisation. Results: In this study, there were no significant differences between gestational diabe-tes mellitus (GDM) and healthy groups in Body Mass Index (BMI) factors. There was no statistically significant differences between the mean weight of infants born with gestational diabetes and control groups. There were no statistically significant differ-ences between the mean placental weights between two groups. Ratio of the placental weights to the birth weights between the two groups were not statistically significant. The mean placental length, width and placenta length times by width in two groups had no significant differences, but the mean gravidities in healthy group was 1.7910 and in gestational diabetes mellitus was 1.9762 that are significantly different (P=0.0217). The mean parities respectively were 0.6567 and 0.8100 which was not sig-nificantly different (P=0.0183). Conclusion: The present study has shown there was no significant differences between fetal and placental weights in ...

Abstract Karoon River is the main source of drinking, industrial and agricultural utility in Ahwaz city. Protozoans are useful indicators for river water pollution. The aim of this study was to identify and enumerate Dominant protozoans in Karoon Water River, Ahwaz city. In this descriptive study, we took samples from 3 points of karoon river in Ahwaz city boundaries (upstream- uptake point for water treatment plant, middle and downstream) in two seasons (dry and wet). Samples prepared and examined by optic microscope. The results showed 6 species of mastigophora and ciliophora. Most prevalent species were Monosiga fusiformis, Bodocaudatus ، Cercomonas Longicauda، Cercomonas Crassicauda، Tetramitus descissus And Stalked Ciliate. The seasonal variation difference was statistically significant. Minimum concentration was in January (less than 1 cell /lit) and maximum was in October (1600 cell/ lit). The average concentration of protozoans was 129.68 cells/ lit. Protozoans in 3 sampling stations were statistically different, where in 2 and 3 stations Bodocaudatus, Cercomonas Longicauda, Cercomonas Crassicauda, and Tetramitusdescissus were dominant. Identified protozoan species indicate pollution of Karoon River by sewage discharge.

Abstract Arynes are highly reactive and kinetically unstable intermediates, which have been extensively utilized in various carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bond formation reactions. Multi-component couplings of these intermediates are powerful transformations that allow for efficient synthesis of a wide range of carbocycles and heterocycles, as well as natural products. On the other hand, CO 2 -fixation reactions are one of the safest and most inexpensive methods for the synthesis of various value-added chemicals. Along this line, recently, several elegant multi-component reactions involving arynes were designed for the incorporation of CO 2 . This review provides a comprehensive overview of the CO 2 incorporation reactions using arynes, with the emphasis on the mechanistic aspects of the reactions

Abstract In this paper, a fuzzy predictive control scheme is proposed for controlling output voltage of a step-down DC-DC converter in presence of disturbance and uncertainty. The DC-DC converter is considered as a hybrid system and modeled by Mixed Logical Dynamical modeling approach. The main objective of the paper is to design a Fuzzy Predictive Control to achieve desired voltage output without increasing complexity of the hybrid model of DC-DC converter in various conditions. A model predictive control is designed based on the hybrid model and applied to the system. Although the performance of the model predictive control method is satisfactory in normal condition, it suffers from lack of robustness in presence of disturbance and uncertainty. So, to succeed in facing up to the problem a fuzzy supervisor is utilized to adjust the main predictive controller based on the measured states of the system. In this paper it is shown that the proposed fuzzy predictive control scheme has advantages such as simplicity and efficiency in normal operation and robustness in presence of disturbance and uncertainty. Through simulations effectiveness of the proposed method is shown.
