Abstract Project governance (PG) has been primarily acknowledged as critical by researchers and practitioners in regard to successfully executing projects. However, project governance of public projects has received less attention from researchers. Therefore, in this study, we studied the effects of project governance and top management support (TMS) on project performance (PP) and their interactions in public sector projects. Using the lens of resource dependence theory (RDT), we hypothesize whether TMS moderates the impact of PG on PP. A quantitative deductive approach was employed to examine this relationship. Quantitative data were collected using a structured questionnaire from 346 project managers, team members, and stakeholders. Our results indicated that PG and TMS are positively significantly correlated with project performance. Moreover, we found that TMS acts as a quasi-moderator in the relationship between PG and PP.

Abstract This study assesses India’s environmental problems by focusing on the ecological footprint pressure index (EFPI), which provides a simultaneous analysis of biocapacity and ecological footprint. In particular, the study examines the impact of export diversification, economic growth, and renewable energy on EFPI under the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis for India. To analyze the long-run relationships, the Residual Augmented Ordinary Least Squares (RALS)-Fourier cointegration test is applied to annual data from 1965 to 2014. Contrary to the EKC hypothesis, the results show a U-shaped relationship between income and EFPI. The absence of the EKC hypothesis implies that economic development does not help to ensure environmental quality; hence, other measures are required to minimize irreversible environmental problems. In this regard, the results of the study suggest that renewable energy consumption and export diversification reduce EFPI. Based on the overall findings of the study, it is recommended that the Indian government improve environmental values by changing the export structure and energy mix.

Abstract Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play an important role in sustainable development not only for their significant contribution to China's economy but also for their large share of total discharged pollutants. Despite the widely acknowledged importance and benefits of environmental management accounting (EMA), the level of adoption and implementation of EMA practice is still weak within SMEs in many countries, especially in China. The current systematic review aims to identify the barriers affecting the Chinese SMEs for adopting EMA practices along with the critical success factors required for adopting EMA practices by SMEs and their top management for ensuring sustainable corporate environmental performance in China. The study is carried out following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. In total, 73 articles were found to be eligible to be included in the systematic review, which was published on EMA in small- and medium-sized enterprises in China. Our study aims to document barriers to the adoption of EMA among Chinese SMEs. The review concluded that strict legislation and the availability of flexible financing options for SMEs can promote the adoption of EMA by SMEs. The establishment of environmental reporting systems and auditing mechanisms can further increase the utilization of EMA by small and medium firms. Barriers to EMA adoption can be mitigated after careful consideration of the current situation in SMEs. Documentation of significant barriers may help to form supportive policies which ultimately add to the efforts toward climate change mitigation.

Abstract This research aims to look at the link between environmental pollutants and the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in California. To illustrate the COVID-19 outbreak, weather, and environmental pollution, we used daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 patients, average daily temperature, and air quality Index, respectively. To evaluate the data from March 1 to May 24, 2020, we used continuous wavelet transform and then applied partial wavelet coherence (PWC), wavelet transform coherence (WTC), and multiple wavelet coherence (MWC). Empirical estimates disclose a significant association between these series at different time-frequency spaces. The COVID-19 outbreak in California and average daily temperature show a negative (out phase) coherence. Similarly, the air quality index and COVID-19 also show a negative association circle during the second week of the observed period. Our findings will serve as policy implications for state and health officials and regulators to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.

Abstract Background: Restrictive measures enacted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in dramatic and substantial variations in people’s travel habits and behaviors worldwide. This paper empirically examines the asymmetric inter-linkages between transportation mobility and COVID-19. Methods: Using daily data from 1st March 2020 to 15th July 2020, this study draws the dynamic and causal relationships between transportation mobility and COVID-19 in ten selected countries (i.e., USA, Brazil, Mexico, UK, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Canada, and Belgium). To systematically analyze how the quantiles of COVID-19 (transportation mobility) affect the quantiles of transportation mobility (COVID-19), a complete set of non-linear modeling including the quantile-on-quantile (QQ) regression and quantile Granger causality in mean is applied. Results: Our preliminary findings strictly reject the preposition of data normality and highlight that the observed relationship is highly correlated and quantile-dependent. The empirical results demonstrate the heterogeneous dependence between COVID-19 and transportation mobility across quantiles. The findings acclaim the presence of a significant positive association between COVID-19 and transportation mobility in the USA, UK, Spain, Italy, Canada, France, Germany and Belgium, predominantly at upper quantiles, but results are contrasting in the case of Brazil and Mexico. In addition, either lower or upper quantiles of both variables indicate a declining negative effect of transportation mobility on COVID-19. Furthermore, the outcomes of quantile Granger causality in mean conclude a bidirectional causal link between COVID-19 and transportation mobility for almost all sample countries. Unlike them, France has found unidirectional causality that extends from COVID-19 to transportation mobility. Conclusions: We may conclude that COVID-19 leads to a reduction in transportation mobility. On the other hand, the empirical results quantify that excessive transportation mobility levels ...

Abstract Environmental pollution comes from several sectors of activities. It is almost conceivable that the education sector subsidies to the disruption of the environmental quality. The study employs panel cointegration techniques and method of moments quantile regression (MMQR) to inspect the influence of income, education (scholarly enrollment and expenditure), and foreign direct investment on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions for a panel of 46 Belt and Road initiative (BRI) countries spanning the period 1996–2016. The estimation shows that the hypothesis of environmental Kuznets is established for both the models. Using fully modified ordinary least squares (OLS), fixed effects OLS and dynamic OLS, long-run elasticities show that real income increases the emissions. At the same time, foreign direct investment and education contribute toward decreasing the emissions in the long run. Using the approach of MMQR, the estimated coefficients confirm that only economic growth positively affects pollution. However, education and foreign direct investment negatively influence CO2 emissions with different quantile levels. As policy recommendations, governments of the BRI region should improve the educational services by installing new technologies, equipment, and supplies, which leads to mitigation of the emission levels.

Abstract This study explores the relationship between the takeover market and enterprise innovation. We also investigate the mediating role of internal governance (managers’ compensation incentives, equity incentives, boards of directors, and large shareholders) on the relationship between the takeover market and enterprise innovation. We use comprehensive panel data of 1307 firms listed on the Shenzhen and Shanghai stock exchanges for 2006-2016 to meet the study's objectives. We find that the takeover market positively and significantly influences corporate innovation. It improves corporate innovation ability by increasing managers’ compensation incentives. However, enterprise innovation ability decreases with an increase in managers’ equity incentives, large shareholders, and the board of directors. Finally, this study recommends useful policy implications to increase enterprise innovation in the Chinese financial market.

Abstract This study compares the nexus among trade liberalization, CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and economic growth in Southeast Asian and Latin American countries. We apply the structural equation modeling approach for estimation analysis of the data from 1991 to 2018. The empirical findings of this study validate that trade has a positive and statistically significant effect on energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and gross domestic product (GDP) in Southeast Asian countries. Whereas in Latin American countries, trade shows a positive insignificant impact on energy consumption, but the coefficients for both CO2 emissions and GDP are positive and statistically significant. Energy consumption also exhibits a positive significant effect on CO2 emissions and a positive statistically insignificant effect on GDP in the Southeast Asian region. However, in Latin American countries, energy consumption predicts a positive and statistically significant impact on both CO2 emissions and GDP. Whereas, CO2 emissions indicate a positive significant effect on GDP in both regions. Therefore, each country’s government in both areas should formulate appropriate policies to promote green technologies in the production and exports, which could help economies to achieve a clean environment and sustainable long-term development.

Abstract The drive for the current study was to describe the findings carried out to understand abusive supervision and employees’ creativity in business organizations. This research investigated the effect of abusive supervision on employees’ creativity. The influence of employment insecurity as a mediating variable and the moderating role of locus of control has also been examined. The study was based on Hobfoll’s conservation of resources theory. The data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire from 500 employees working in different business organizations in Pakistan. To analyze the data, the study employed path analytic approaches using multilevel modeling in Mplus 7.1. The empirical analysis has confirmed that abusive supervision and employment insecurity have a significant negative impact on employees’ creativity. Employment infectivity partially mediates the effect of abusive supervision on employees’ creativity. Moderation analysis was performed and established that the locus of control moderates the effect of abusive supervision on employment insecurity as well as the effect of employment insecurity on employees’ creativity. The current research has contributed towards developing a better understanding of the studied variables, i.e., abusive supervision, employment insecurity, locus of control, and employees’ creativity. To the best of authors’ knowledge these variables have been studied together here for the first time. The study also forwarded practical recommendations for managers and entrepreneurs.

Abstract Sustainable development remains unattainable unless we move to reduce the negative impact of economic factors on environmental quality. It is noteworthy to provide new evidence on whether and how the empirical association between export diversification, agricultural value-addition, renewable energy, and regulatory quality with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions evolved in Asian countries from 1996 to 2014. The study examines the relationships between these variables using current panel data techniques. The econometric procedure includes second-generation cointegration and unit root tests together with a novel Method of Movements Quantile Regression (MMQR). This approach offers an asymmetric relationship between the variables and is very robust to outliers compared to traditional quantile regression. The empirical outcomes show that export diversification, renewable energy, and regulatory quality are significantly and negatively associated with GHG emissions. In contrast, agricultural value-added in Asia has become a source of increased GHG emissions. Our findings are also robust with alternate specifications, including fully modified, dynamic and fixed effect regressions. This study will help policymakers for diversifying their export portfolio while ensuring a sustainable environment in Asia.
