Abstract Some results of a morphometric study of the parameters of coronary arteries are presented. The parameters that characterize the structure of the arterial vasculature as an optimal branching system have been calculated. Statistically reliable correlations between the diameter of the bigger of two daughter vessels in a bifurcation with the diameter of the parent vessel as well as between the diameter of the smaller daughter vessel and the asymmetry coefficient have been obtained. Differences in the structural parameters of the two types of coronary arteries that provide blood delivery and distribution have been revealed. The relationships between the lengths and diameters of the arteries of different subsystems have been obtained. It is shown that asymmetrical branching is characteristic of the coronary vasculature, and self-similar asymmetric tree-like systems may be used for its modeling.

Title translation Comparative characterization of endurance properties of ischemic myocardium in cyclic and quasistatic mechanical loads.
Abstract The mechanical properties of totally ischemic hearts of inbred albino rats were studied. The ischemic myocardium was found to be more sensitive to cyclic loads. Energy deficient contracture of cardiomyocytes is a factor which increases the resistance of the myocardium to mechanical effects.

Abstract Objective: The aim was to study the effects of global ischaemia on the mechanical properties of the myocardium.
Methods: Myocardial ischaemia was achieved by incubating the hearts of 160 rats in normal saline at 37 degrees C for periods of up to 24 h. To obtain different degrees of contracture, excess pressure (up to 150 mm Hg) was created in the left ventricles of subgroups of hearts. After incubation the hearts underwent mechanical loading.
Results: Ischaemic contracture of cardiomyocytes led to increased rigidity and strength of the myocardium. A pressure of 50 mm Hg or higher blocked the increase in strength and rigidity of the ischaemic myocardium.
Conclusions: It appears likely that in a functioning heart cardiomyocyte contracture in an ischaemic zone can only develop during the diastolic phase. A decrease in diastolic duration and/or an increase in diastolic pressure in the left ventricle may prevent increases in strength and rigidity of the ventricular wall after an infarct and promote the development of aneurysm and possible cardiac rupture.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate the dependence of the rate of myocardial ischemic destruction on the status of cardiomyocyte contractile apparatus. It has been shown that in relaxed cardiomyocytes the destructive processes proceed with a greater rate than in contractile ones.

Title translation Secretion of active metabolites of arachidonic acid in ischemic cardiomyocyte destruction.
Abstract The authors studied the possible influence of the contractile apparatus of ischemic cardiomyocytes on the severity of their destruction. In experiments with total ischemia during contracture and relaxation, myocardial secretion of arachidonic acid metabolites was determined and the intensity of lipid peroxidation processes was appraised. The secretion of active metabolites of arachidonic acid by ischemic contracture cardiomyocytes was found to differ from that of relaxed cardiomyocytes, which may have an effect on the severity of myocardial inflammatory reaction and destruction rate in the zone of the infarction.
