Abstract In recent decades, the study of groundwater flow and solute transport has advanced into new territories that are beyond conventional theories, such as Darcy's law and Fick's law. The studied media have changed from permeable porous and fractured ones to much less permeable ones, such as clay and shale. The studied pore sizes have also changed from millimetres to micro-meters or even nano-meters. The objective of this Special Issue is to report recent advances in groundwater flow and solute transport that push the knowledge boundary into new territories which include, but are not limited to, flow and transport in sloping aquifer/hillslopes, coupled unsaturated and saturated flow, coupled aquifer-vertical/horizontal/slant well flow, interaction of aquifer with connected and disconnected rivers, non-Darcian flow, anomalous transport beyond the Fickian scheme, and flow and transport in extremely small pore spaces such as shale and tight sandstones. Contributions focusing on innovative experimental, numerical, and analytical methods for understanding unconventional problems, such as the above-listed ones, are encouraged, and contributions addressing flow and transport at interfaces of different media and crossing multiple temporal and spatial scales are of great value

Abstract We study whether a discrete quantum walk can get arbitrarily close to a state whose entries have the same absolute value over all the arcs, given that the walk starts with a uniform superposition of the outgoing arcs of some vertex. We characterize this phenomenon on non-bipartite graphs using the adjacency spectrum of the graph; in particular, if this happens in some association scheme and the state we get arbitrarily close to ``respects the neighborhood", then it happens regardless of the initial vertex, and the adjacency algebra of the graph contains a real (regular) Hadamard matrix. We then find infinite families of primitive strongly regular graphs that admit this phenomenon. We also derive some results on a strengthening of this phenomenon called simultaneous $\epsilon$-uniform mixing, which enables local $\epsilon$-uniform mixing at every vertex.

Abstract A novel type of detachable precast concrete column-column joint (DPC) is proposed in this study to solve the problems in current column-column dry connections including complex load path, uncertainty of structural stiffness of beam-column joints and inconvenience for disassembly. The dry connection technology is applied by composing of steel plate and concrete. Finite element models of DPC were created to study its structural performance including hysteresis curve, skeleton curve, ductility, and energy dissipation capacity. The benchmark models are firstly established and validated against the test data and after that a small-scale parametric study is prepared. The effect of axial pressure ratio and eccentricity distance size on the seismic performance of DPC was studied. Results indict that the optimal value of axial pressure ratio ranges from 0.5 to 0.7. With increase of the axial pressure ratio, the ductility coefficient shows a decreasing trend in general. The eccentricity has little effect on the energy dissipation capacity of the joint.

Abstract Pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) is commonly performed alongside radical prostatectomy. Its primary objective is to determine the lymphatic staging of prostate tumors by removing lymph nodes involved in lymphatic drainage. This aids in guiding subsequent treatment and removing metastatic foci, potentially offering significant therapeutic benefits. Despite varying recommendations from clinical practice guidelines across countries, the actual implementation of PLND is inconsistent, partly due to debates over its therapeutic value. While high-quality evidence supporting the superiority of PLND in oncological outcomes is lacking, its role in increasing surgical time and risk of complications is well-recognized. Despite these concerns, PLND remains the gold standard for lymph node staging in prostate cancer, providing invaluable staging information unattainable by other techniques. This article reviews PLND's scope, guideline perspectives, implementation status, oncologic and non-oncologic outcomes, alternatives, and future research needs.
