    Abstract Objective: To evaluate the impacts of the prognostic factors of T2N0M0 upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) for Chinese patients.
    Methods: A retrospective study was conducted including 235 patients who were diagnosed with T2N0M0 UTUC in our hospital and received radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) or partial ureterectomy during January 2000 and December 2013. The 3 and 5-year cancer-specific survival rates and bladder recurrence-free survival rates of all the patients were valued using Kaplan-Meier method, and the survival curves with statistical significance between the two were compared using the Log-rank test. Variables with significant differences in the univariate analysis were subjected to the multivariate analysis by Cox regression model.
    Results: A total of 235 patients were included in this study, including 95 (40.4%) male patients and 140 (59.6%) female patients. The mean age was 66.73±10.49 years.The median follow-up time was 53 (rang: 3-142) months, and during the follow-up, 74 (31.5%) patients died of UTUC after a median of 35 months,and 96 (40.9%) patients developed intravesical recurrence after a median of 19.5 months. The 3 and 5-year cancer-specific survival rates of all the patients were 89.1% and 85.9%, respectively; the bladder recurrence-free survival rates were 85.5% and 80.2%, respectively. The independent prognostic factors of cancer-specific mortality were tumor age elder than 55 years (HR=3.138, 95%CI: 1.348-7.306, P=0.008) and diameter larger than 5 cm (HR=3.320, 95%CI: 1.882-5.857, P<0.001). The independent prognostic factors of bladder recurrence-free survival were ureter tumor (HR=1.757, 95%CI: 1.159-2.664, P=0.008) and lower tumor grade (HR=1.760, 95% CI: 1.151-2.692, P=0.009).
    Conclusion: T2N0M0 UTUC has a better cancer-specific survival. The intravesical recurrence was equivalent to non-muscle invasive UTUC but earlier. The tumor diameter larger than 5 cm and the patient age elder than 55 years were independently associated with cancer-specific mortality; the primary tumor located in ureter and lower tumor grade were more likely to develop intravesical recurrence.

    Abstract Gastric cancer is one of the most common types of malignancies and proteins from the Bcl-2 family are highly expressed in human gastric cancer. Apogossypolone (ApoG2), the most potent gossypol derivative, has been defined as a novel small-molecule inhibitor of anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins. However, whether or not it can inhibit the growth and proliferation of gastric cancer cell lines has not been demonstrated to date. Here, we assessed the effects of anti-growth of ApoG2 on gastric cancer cell lines in vitro and explored the possible molecular mechanisms of ApoG2. Using the MTT assay and flow cytometry, we found that ApoG2 has the significant anti-growth effect on MKN28, MKN45 and AGS cell lines in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Compared to (-)-gossypol, MTT assay and flow cytometry results showed that anti-growth effect of ApoG2 is inferior, but the colony formation ability of ApoG2 is superior. Furthermore, western blot results revealed that ApoG2 inhibits the growth and proliferation of gastric cancer cells by down-regulating of Bcl-2 protein expression, up-regulating of Bax and activating of Caspase-3. Taken together, albeit the ApoG2 inferior to (-)-gossypol in many ways on gastric cancer in vitro, our results suggest that ApoG2 could effectively inhibit the growth and proliferation of gastric cancer cell lines through the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis.

    Abstract A merocyanine dye with isoxazolone nucleus: 4-[(5-methoxy-1H-indole-3-yl)-methylene]-3-methyl-isoxazole-5-one (1) was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, IR, UV–Vis spectra and elemental analysis. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P2₁/n, with a=6.4195(16), b=7.5759(19), c=25.181(6)Å, V=1217.9(5)ų, and Z=4 (at 298(2)K). Crystal stacking scheme indicates the hydrogen bonds and intermolecular face-to-face π⋯π aromatic stacking interactions generate a unique parallelogram-void supramolecular architecture in solid state of the dye (1). By DFT calculations, molecular electrostatic potential clearly shows that the formation of hydrogen-bonding interaction [N(2)H(2)⋯O(2) and C(1)H(1A)⋯N(1)] in the crystal structure is between the positive and negative regions. In addition, molecular geometry, tautomeric forms, ¹H NMR and ¹³C NMR were calculated by DFT/GIAO (the gauge invariant atomic orbital) methods are in good agreement with the experimental values. The correlation value between experimental ¹³C chemical shifts and the calculated magnetic isotropic shielding tensors is 0.9989, and the absolute deviation is 0.2–4.4 based on B3LYP/6-31G*-PCM (the polarizable continuum model) level.

    Abstract In China cancer has became the second leading cause of death in men and the third leading cause of death in women. Each year approximately 700,000 people die of cancer. Mass screening have picked up many early cases for radical treatment with good results; however, the early detection program, though effective in certain types of cancer, needs a tremendous amount of man-power and money, making it impractical in a large developing country like China. In the past decade or so, we have been pursuing an approach to cancer control which focuses primarily on prevention, especially in cancer-prone areas. Clues provided by pioneering epidemiologic surveys have indicated that both environmental and host factors contribute to the causation of cancer. A number of carcinogens have been demonstrated in the environment and some are synthesized de novo from precursor substances in the body. Although they are shown to be carcinogenic in experimental animals, it is meaningful only if they are so also in man. People exposed to carcinogens are not equally vulnerable; susceptibility as revealed by family studies can be explained, in part, by defects in DNA repair and/or HLA-associated Ir gene defects. Nutritional imbalance and local precursor lesions are among the acquired host factors modifying human resistance to carcinogens. These two factors are perhaps causally related. This offers ample opportunity to carry out nutritional intervention, particularly in high-risk subjects, for the prevention of human cancer.

    Abstract Based on 4.4  fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected at the center-of-mass energies between 4.60 and 4.70 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the pure W-boson-exchange decay Λ_{c}^{+}→Ξ^{0}K^{+} is studied with a full angular analysis. The corresponding decay asymmetry is measured for the first time to be α_{Ξ^{0}K^{+}}=0.01±0.16(stat)±0.03(syst). This result reflects the noninterference effect between the S- and P-wave amplitudes. The phase shift between S- and P-wave amplitudes has two solutions, which are δ_{p}-δ_{s}=-1.55±0.25(stat)±0.05(syst)  rad or 1.59±0.25(stat)±0.05(syst)  rad.

    Abstract By analyzing 7.33  fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the observation of the semileptonic decay D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}μ^{+}ν_{μ}, with a statistical significance larger than 10σ, and the measurements of the D_{s}^{+}→ημ^{+}ν_{μ} and D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}μ^{+}ν_{μ} decay dynamics for the first time. The branching fractions of D_{s}^{+}→ημ^{+}ν_{μ} and D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}μ^{+}ν_{μ} are determined to be (2.235±0.051_{stat}±0.052_{syst})% and (0.801±0.055_{stat}±0.028_{syst})%, respectively, with precision improved by factors of 6.0 and 6.6 compared to the previous best measurements. Combined with the results for the decays D_{s}^{+}→ηe^{+}ν_{e} and D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}e^{+}ν_{e}, the ratios of the decay widths are examined both inclusively and in several ℓ^{+}ν_{ℓ} four-momentum transfer ranges. No evidence for lepton flavor universality violation is found within the current statistics. The products of the hadronic form factors f_{+,0}^{η^{(')}}(0) and the c→s Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_{cs}| are determined. The results based on the two-parameter series expansion are f_{+,0}^{η}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.452±0.010_{stat}±0.007_{syst} and f_{+,0}^{η^{'}}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.504±0.037_{stat}±0.012_{syst}, which help to constrain present models on f_{+,0}^{η^{(')}}(0). The forward-backward asymmetries are determined to be ⟨A_{FB}^{η}⟩=-0.059±0.031_{stat}±0.005_{syst} and ⟨A_{FB}^{η^{'}}⟩=-0.064±0.079_{stat}±0.006_{syst} for the first time, which are consistent with the theoretical calculation.

    Abstract Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the process e^{+}e^{-}→Σ^{+}Σ[over ¯]^{-} is studied at center-of-mass energies sqrt[s]=2.3960, 2.6454, and 2.9000 GeV. Using a fully differential angular description of the final state particles, both the relative magnitude and phase information of the Σ^{+} electromagnetic form factors in the timelike region are extracted. The relative phase between the electric and magnetic form factors is determined to be sinΔΦ=-0.67±0.29(stat)±0.18(syst) at sqrt[s]=2.3960  GeV, ΔΦ=55°±19°(stat)±14°(syst) at sqrt[s]=2.6454  GeV, and 78°±22°(stat)±9°(syst) at sqrt[s]=2.9000  GeV. For the first time, the phase of the hyperon electromagnetic form factors is explored in a wide range of four-momentum transfer. The evolution of the phase along with four-momentum transfer is an important input for understanding its asymptotic behavior and the dynamics of baryons.

    Abstract Using (10087±44)×10^{6}  J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, numerous Ξ^{-} and Λ decay asymmetry parameters are simultaneously determined from the process J/ψ→Ξ^{-}Ξ[over ¯]^{+}→Λ(pπ^{-})π^{-}Λ[over ¯](n[over ¯]π^{0})π^{+} and its charge-conjugate channel. The precisions of α_{Λ0} for Λ→nπ^{0} and α[over ¯]_{Λ0} for Λ[over ¯]→n[over ¯]π^{0} compared to world averages are improved by factors of 4 and 1.7, respectively. The ratio of decay asymmetry parameters of Λ→nπ^{0} to that of Λ→pπ^{-}, ⟨α_{Λ0}⟩/⟨α_{Λ-}⟩, is determined to be 0.873±0.012_{-0.010}^{+0.011}, where the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The ratio is smaller than unity more than 5σ, which signifies the existence of the ΔI=3/2 transition in Λ for the first time. Besides, we test for CP symmetry in Ξ^{-}→Λπ^{-} and in Λ→nπ^{0} with the best precision to date.
