Abstract Bio-materials use a hierarchical structure to optimize their self-healing mechanical behavior. However, the utility may be restricted by different environments. In this paper, based on the previous work in Ji and Li (J Mater Sci 53:14858-14870, 2018) on the constitutive relation of hierarchical self-healing fiber bundle materials (FBMs), the stability is investigated for the mechanical-environmental interaction system established in Ji and Li (Int J Fract 212:105-112, 2018). With the principle of total potential, the stability criterion is proposed. The critical environment stiffness is derived and the system is therefore classified into the absolutely stable one and the conditionally stable one. For the conditionally stable system, the applied strain of FBMs reduces to be [0,[Formula: see text]], where [Formula: see text] is the cutoff strain. Finally, the toughness of hierarchical self-healing FBMs is studied for different interaction systems. The results show that in the absolutely stable system there exists a critical healing rate across which the toughness benefits from a hierarchical structure. In the conditionally stable system, the toughness is significantly affected by the environment stiffness, i.e., the toughness of a FBM increases with a rising hierarchical level, whereas it decreases with a rising healing rate. Moreover, the critical healing rate for toughness becomes greater compared to that in an absolutely stable system.

Abstract The fire characteristics under natural ventilation in the cable compartment of the utility tunnel are studied. A series of small-scale fire experimental tests are conducted to obtain the maximum temperature below the ceiling of different ignition vertical heights and cable types. In this paper, the ceiling temperature decay and heat release rate (HRR) are studied in the cable compartment of utility tunnel. Through experimental tests, the fire characteristics of placing the fire source on the near wall side 3.0 m away from the shaft of the utility tunnel cable compartment are studied. The results showed that under the action of natural ventilation, with the decrease of fuel quantity, the mass loss of cable decreases, and the maximum temperature below the ceiling of the cable compartment in the utility tunnel decreases. ZRYJV cables burn more sufficient combustion than RVVR cables. A new empirical association for total HRR is proposed. Those experimental test results are used as validation data for the newly proposed empirical correlation of total HRR. This paper hopes to provide some basic fire safety references for the utility tunnel planning of the urban underground cable compartment.

Abstract Inspired by Meyers et al. (Science, 2013), a piecewise model is established so as to individually predict both the heel region and the linear region of stress-strain curve. When the piecewise model satisfactorily predicts the experimental data, the constitutive parameters are precisely identified with definite physical significances. Along with this piecewise guideline, a complete constitutive model can be established for the whole stress-strain curve of collagen fiber tissues with the failure region as well. Graphical abstract.

Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is a common malignant tumor in China, which seriously threatens people's health and lives. In recent years, immunotherapy has provided new options for the treatment of HCC. Various emerging immunotherapy techniques, such as cell immunotherapy, tumor vaccines, oncolytic viruses and immune checkpoint inhibitors, are also gradually advancing to clinical applications. Immunotherapy for HCC should target the different immune characteristics of HCC patients and develop different individualized treatment strategies. In the process of formulating strategies, attention should be paid to key issues such as reversing the exhaustion of T cells, break through HCC immunosuppressive microenvironment, improving the immunotherapy specificity, enhancing the immune response of anti-HCC with adjuvant, timely and accurate evaluation of efficacy and safety, etc. In conclusion, individualization, specificity, safety and efficiency are the inevitable development trend of immunotherapy for HCC.

Abstract Objective: Long non-coding RNAs MNX1-AS1(MNX1-AS1) has been proved to be associated with ovarian cancer proliferation and invasion. However, the clinical significance of MNX1-AS1 in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) patients remains unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of the MNX1-AS1 expression in EOC.
Patients and methods: We first measured MNX1-AS1 expression level in 177 paired of EOC and matched normal tissues by Real-time quantitative RT-PCR. The relevance of MNX1-AS1 expression to the clinicopathological factors was assessed. Overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) were analyzed by log-rank test, and survival curves were plotted according to Kaplan-Meier. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to analyze the prognostic significance of MNX1-AS1 expression.
Results: We found that the levels of MNX1-AS1 were higher in EOC tissue than in matched normal tissues (p<0.01). In addition, MNX1-AS1 expression level was significantly positively correlated with FIGO stage (p=0.005), grade (p=0.040) and distant metastasis (p=0.000). Kaplan-Meier survival curves demonstrated that patients with high-MNX1-AS1 expression showed poorer progression-free survival and overall survival than those with low-MNX1-AS1 expression (p<0.0001 and 0.0003, respectively). Then, Cox regression analysis revealed that FIGO stage, distant metastasis, and MNX1-AS1 expression were independent prognostic factors of both overall survival and progression-free survival for patients with EOC.
Conclusions: Our findings indicated, for the first time, that MNX1-AS1 expression may be a useful marker for predicting the outcome in patients with EOC.

Abstract Objective: Long noncoding RNA FEZF1-AS1 (FEZF1-AS1) has been showed to involve in a variety of cancers. However, its function and clinical significance in cervical cancer (CC) have not been investigated. The aim of this study was to explore the prognostic value of FEZF1-AS1 in CC patients.
Patients and methods: Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to determine the expression level of FEZF1-AS1 in CC specimens and adjacent normal cervical tissues. Association between FEZF1-AS1 expression and clinicopathological characteristics was analyzed x2-test. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate survival curves, and the log-rank statistic was used to test the role of FEZF1-AS1 expression. The possibility of FEZF1-AS1 as a prognostic biomarker for CC was examined by Cox proportional hazard regression model.
Results: We found that FEZF1-AS1 expression levels were significantly higher in CC tissues compared with adjacent non-cancerous tissues (p < 0.01). High expressions of FEZF1-AS1 were significantly association with poorer histological grade (p = 0.004), positive distant metastasis (p = 0.002) and advanced FIGO stage (p = 0.001). Furthermore, patients with low FEZF1-AS1 expression lived shorter than those with high FEZF1-AS1 expression (Log-rank test, p < 0.0034). Cox regression analysis demonstrated that FEZF1-AS1 expression level was an independent prognostic factor for CC overall survival rates (p = 0.008).
Conclusions: We firstly provided clinical evidence that FEZF1-AS1 may be a possible biomarker of poor prognosis in CC.
