Abstract In this paper, a mold electromagnetic stirring (M-EMS) model was established to investigate the behavior of M-EMS for round bloom castings under different conditions, and an electromagnetic-flow-heat transfer-solidification coupling model was established to explore the problem of eccentric stirring for various formats of round blooms. The results show that the magnetic flux density decreased with the increase in the current frequency, but the electromagnetic torque increases first and then decreases with it, and the same structure of M-EMS for round blooms has the same optimal current frequency at any current intensity. The electromagnetic torque and electromagnetic force both increase as a quadratic function of the current intensity, and the electromagnetic torque, which drives the steel flow, can directly characterize the real M-EMS performance. The mold copper tube has a significant magnetic shielding effect on M-EMS, the stirring intensity decreases rapidly as the tube thickness increases, and the optimal stirring frequency decreases as well. In fact, the deviation between the stirrer center and the geometric center of the strand can result in the eccentric stirring phenomenon. When blooms with a section size of Φ350 mm are produced by Φ650 mm SMS-Concast casting machine, the upper region of the inner arc side and the lower region of the outer arc side are subject to a stronger washing effect, which makes the temperature of the inner and outer arcs show alternating differences. The jet flow from the five-port nozzle can suppress the difference in initial solidification symmetry between the inner and outer arcs of round blooms caused by eccentric stirring. This paper reveals the magnetic shielding effect of the mold copper tube and the magnetic field loss of the air between the stirrer and the inner and outer arcs of the copper, which lead to the stirring intensity and the eccentric stirring phenomenon.

Abstract PURPOSE: The dynamics of phosphorus in lake sediment have received much attention due to their potential to trigger eutrophication. This study was aimed to reveal the distribution pattern of phosphorus forms, total nitrogen (TN), and total organic carbon (TOC), estimate the contributions of different phosphorus forms to total phosphorus, and evaluate the ecological risks of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in the sediments from Daye Lake, Central China. METHOD: Thirty-nine surface sediment samples were collected in the dry season. TOC and TN were analyzed by an elemental analyzer. Phosphorus forms were determined based on the European standard SMT (Standard Measurements and Testing) method. The integrated pollution index method was used to assess the TN and TP pollution levels of sediment. The relationships between different phosphorus forms and TOC and TN in sediments were also discussed. RESULT AND DISCUSSION: TOC, TN, and TP contents in the sediments of Daye Lake were 0.96–6.15%, 859.8–5562.533 mg kg⁻¹, and 973.06–7982.86 mg kg⁻¹, respectively. The average contents of phosphorus in various forms were IP (1605.24 mg kg⁻¹) > Ca-P (1093.39 mg kg⁻¹) > OP (897.49 mg kg⁻¹) > Fe/Al-P (523.79 mg kg⁻¹). The contents of different phosphorus forms showed certain spatial differences due to the impact of human activities, agricultural, and industrial production. IP was the most important form of phosphorus in sediments, accounting for 49 ~ 63% of TP. TOC/TN ratio in the sediments ranged from 7.23 to 11.35, indicating that endogenous pollution was the main source. The results of TN and TP pollution in the surface sediments of Daye Lake evaluated by single pollution standard index method showed that the standard index of the TN (STN) ranged from 0.86 to 5.56 and the standard index of the TP (STP) ranged from 1.62 to 13.30. It indicated that N and P in sediments of Daye Lake were seriously polluted, and there was a potential risk of endogenous pollutant release which may further aggravate the eutrophication of water body. CONCLUSION: The distribution of TN, TP, and TOC in the sediments showed a gradual decreasing trend from the downstream to the upstream in Daye Lake. TP in the sediments mainly existed in the form of IP. IP content was mainly influenced by Fe/Al-P and Ca-P. The ecological risk of nitrogen and phosphorous in the sediments was serious, and the water body was threatened by eutrophication.

Abstract FeSiBCCr amorphous powders were produced by a novel gas-water combined atomization process, and the corresponding MPCs (magnetic powder cores) were subsequently fabricated by phosphating treatment (0.4~1.6 wt.%), cold pressing (550~2350 MPa), and annealing (423~773 K), respectively. The results showed that the powders had high circularity, excellent thermal stability (ΔT = 59 K), and high saturation magnetization (0.83 T), which could provide raw powders for high-performance MPCs. With increasing phosphoric acid concentrations, despite the increase in DC-bias%, the uniformity of the insulation layers deteriorated, which led to a decrease in permeability and an increase in core loss. With increasing compaction pressures, the core loss increased continuously, and the permeability and DC-bias% first increased and then decreased. When annealing below the crystallization temperature, with increasing annealing temperatures, the permeability increased, and the core loss and DC-bias% decreased continuously. Under the optimized process of 0.4 wt.% phosphating concentration, 550 MPa pressure, and 773 K annealing temperature, the MPCs had a permeability of 21.54 ± 1.21, DC-bias% of 90.3 ± 0.2, and a core loss (

Abstract The new generation of high-frequency and high-efficiency motors has high demands on the soft magnetic properties, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of its core materials. Bulk amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys not only meet its performance requirements but also conform to the current technical concept of integrated forming. At present, spark plasma sintering (SPS) is expected to break through the cooling-capacity limitation of traditional casting technology with high possibility to fabricate bulk metallic glasses (BMGs). Abstract Cracking con-rod is an advanced high-precision connecting structure based on brittle expansion, breaking and reconnection of steel, to solve the problem of assembly circle missing. High carbon micro-alloyed steel C70S6, as a dominant material for the production of cracking con-rod, has extremely strict requirements on non-metallic inclusions in steel and microstructure stability. Continuous casting tundish plays an important role in removing large-sized inclusions and stabilizing casting quality. Aiming at the inconsistent casting quality of C70S6 steel produced by a three-strand asymmetric tundish and the frequent occurrence of slag entrapment problems in Xining Special Steel, the tundish structure was optimized by means of physical modelling combined with numerical simulation, and the quality of the bloom castings and subsequent hot-rolled products before and after optimization were compared based on volume production. The results show that a new flow control design to the tundish can effectively improve the consistency of its metallurgical effect for each of the three strands and the following overall product quality, in which the flow field and temperature field in the tundish are more uniform. This is due to the adoption of a vortex inhibitor and an optimized wall structure according to the measured RTD curve, ink trajectory and numerical simulation on the 3-D streamline contours and temperature distribution in the tundish. The peak concentration of outlet 1 is decreased from 6.5 before optimization to less than 2.0 after optimization, which means the elimination or alleviation of the local short-circuit flow. The maximum temperature difference of C70S6 molten steel measured at the outlets of the tundish three strands is decreased from 2-5 °C to 1-3 °C, which is in good agreement with the numerical simulation results. The difference in columnar crystal ratio of the corresponding bloom castings is decreased from 2.27-3.17% to 1.26-1.85%, and the consistency of central carbon segregation index is also significantly improved. In addition, the difference in oxygen content among the three strand blooms is decreased from 1.7-3.5 ppm to 0.8-1.9 ppm. As a result, the overall mechanical properties and microstructure stability of the hot-rolled products are improved statistically, in which the hardness fluctuation is decreased from 84 HBW to 60 HBW, the inclusion grade of types B + C + D + Ds is reduced to 1.105, and the occurrence rate of Ds dropped to 0.118%. Accordingly, the failure rate of the cracking con-rod is controlled stably within 4‱, and the fracture is generally smoother than that before tundish optimization. In summary, the flow field optimization to a multi-strand asymmetric tundish has a clear effect on improving the overall quality of its bloom castings and rolled products, which should be paid more attention industrially. Meanwhile, the present study provides a reliable theoretical and experimental reference for the improvement of metallurgical effects of an asymmetric-typed tundish commonly used in special steel production.
