Abstract Background: Retinal neovascularization (RN), a major cause of blindness occurring in multiple types of ophthalmic diseases, is closely associated with hypoxic conditions. However, the underlying pathological mechanisms of RN have not been fully elucidated. BTG2 is anti-proliferative factor. The up-stream of BTG2 gene within 3000 bp expresses a long non-coding RNA, LNC01136.
Methods: we initially compared the expression of BTG2 and LNC01136 in human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (hRMECs) with other eye-associated cells, including Muller cells, ARPE19 cells and RGC-5, in response to a hypoxia mimetic agent (CoCl
Results: After the treatment with CoCl
Conclusions: This study revealed that LNC01136 is a cell growth suppressor by recruiting HIF-1α to induce BTG2 expression. However the low expression of LNC01136 in hRMECs compared to other eye-associated cells promoted hRMECs' proliferation, which is probably a cause of RN under hypoxia.

Abstract Clinical trialists often face the challenge of balancing scientific questions with other design features, such as improving efficiency, minimizing exposure to inferior treatments, and simultaneously comparing multiple treatments. While Bayesian response adaptive randomization (RAR) is a popular and effective method for achieving these objectives, it is known to have large variability and a lack of explicit theoretical results, making its use in clinical trials a subject of concern. It is desirable to propose a design that targets the same allocation proportion as Bayesian RAR and achieves the above objectives but addresses the concerns over Bayesian RAR. We propose the frequentist doubly adaptive biased coin designs (DBCD) targeting ethical allocation proportions from the Bayesian framework to satisfy different objectives in clinical trials with time-to-event endpoints. We derive the theoretical properties of the proposed adaptive randomization design and show through comprehensive numerical simulations that it can achieve ethical objectives without sacrificing efficiency. Our combined theoretical and numerical results offer a strong foundation for the practical use of RAR in real clinical trials.

Abstract Antibiotics represent one of the most successful forms of therapy in medicine. But the efficiency of antibiotics is compromised by the growing number of antibiotic-resistant pathogens. Antibiotic resistance, which is implicated in elevated morbidity and mortality rates as well as in the increased treatment costs, is considered to be one of the major global public health threats (www.who.int/drugresistance/en/) and the magnitude of the problem recently prompted a number of international and national bodies to take actions to protect the public (http://ec.europa.eu/dgs/health_consumer/docs/road-map-amr_en.pdf: http://www.who.int/drugresistance/amr_global_action_plan/en/; http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/docs/carb_national_strategy.pdf). Understanding the mechanisms by which bacteria successfully defend themselves against the antibiotic assault represent the main theme of this eBook published as a Research Topic in Frontiers in Microbiology, section of Antimicrobials, Resistance, and Chemotherapy. The articles in the eBook update the reader on various aspects and mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. A better understanding of these mechanisms should facilitate the development of means to potentiate the efficacy and increase the lifespan of antibiotics while minimizing the emergence of antibiotic resistance among pathogens

Abstract Covalent organic framework materials (COFs), as a new type of organic porous material, not only have the characteristics of flexible structure, abundant resources, environmental friendliness, etc., but also have the characteristics of a regular structure and uniform pore channels, so they have broad application prospects in secondary batteries. Their functional group structure, type, and number of active sites play a crucial role in the performance of different kinds of batteries. Therefore, this article starts from these aspects, summarizes the application and research progress of the COF anode materials used in lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and potassium-ion batteries in recent years, discusses the energy storage mechanism of COF materials, and expounds the application prospects of COF electrodes in the field of energy storage.

Abstract In this study, a HPTLC-platformed SERS detection was established for screening thiram in juice. After a simple extraction, the sample liquid was separated on HPTLC plates, which resulted in a specific zone for the analyte. Following infiltration with atomize water, the band of interest was easily scraped off and eluted. In parallel, a flexible and SERS-active substrate was fabricated by the

Abstract Mastering the creep deformation characteristics of rock under different temperature conditions is of great significance for studying the long-term stability and deformation mechanism of geotechnical engineering. Based on the classical Burgers model, the creep model under different temperature conditions is established by introducing a nonlinear Newton body. The parameters of the creep model are identified and the influence law of different parameters on rock creep deformation is analyzed. The relationship between model parameters and temperature is quantitatively expressed. The results show that the newly established model can describe the characteristics of the rock in the decay creep stage and the constant creep stage, especially can quantitatively characterize the relationship between the strain and the time of the rock in the tertiary creep under different temperatures conditions. The model fitting curve is highly consistent with the test data, and the correlation coefficient R
