Abstract Live streaming is conducive to consumers obtaining rich and accurate product information, by displaying products through real-time video technology. Live streaming provides a new type of product presentation method, such as showing products from different perspectives, interacting with consumers by trying the products out, and answering consumers' questions in real time. Other than the current research focus on anchors (or influencers) and consumers in live-streaming marketing, this article tried to explore the way of the product presentation and its effect and mechanism on consumers' purchase intention. Three studies were conducted. Study 1 (

Abstract Despite incomplete multiview clustering (IMC) being widely studied in the past decade, it is still difficult to model the correlation among multiple views due to the absence of partial views. Most existing works for IMC only mine the correlation among multiple views from available views and ignore the importance of missing views. To address this issue, we propose a novel Incomplete Multiview Nonnegative representation learning model with Graph completion and Adaptive neighbors (IMNGA), which performs common graph learning, missing graph completion, and consensus nonnegative representation learning simultaneously. In IMNGA, the common graph on all views and the incomplete graph of each view are used to reconstruct the completed graph of the corresponding view, where the common graph satisfies the neighbor constraints of incomplete multiview data and consensus representation. IMNGA gets consensus representation by factorizing completed and incomplete graphs, where consensus representation satisfies the common graph constraint. IMNGA shows its effectiveness by outperforming other state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract Cutter wear is one of the key factors influencing construction efficiency during shield tunnelling. Prediction of cutter wear can improve construction efficiency by reducing the times of cutter inspections in engineering practice. Evaluation of cutter life is vital for cutter wear prediction, however, existing cutter life indices can only estimate the health condition of all cutters on cutterhead on a holistic basis. A new index was proposed to evaluate cutter wear located at a specific installation position on cutterhead. A deep learning model integrating the index was developed for the estimation of accumulated cutter wear during real time shield tunnelling. The new index can be obtained by monitored field parameters and can predict cutter wear with historical wear patterns. The input and output data samples were reshaped for multi-step prediction. A shield tunnelling section in Guangzhou weathered granite was used for validation. The proposed method can help reduce the cost of cutter replacement by reducing the times of machine interventions. The method article is a companion paper to the original article [1].•Proposed index for prediction of cutter wear rate.•Deep learning model of 1D-CNN and GRU.•Multi-step cutter wear prediction.

Abstract Multivariate time series clustering has become an important research topic in the time series learning task, which aims to discover the correlation among multiple sequences and partition multivariate time series data into several subsets. Although there are currently some methods that can handle this task, most of them fail to discover informative subsequences from multivariate time series instances. In this paper, we first propose a novel unsupervised shapelet learning with adaptive neighbors (USLA) model for learning salient multivariate subsequences (i.e., multivariate shapelets), where the importance of each variate can be auto-determined when given a candidate multivariate shapelet. USLA performs multivariate shapelet-transformed representation learning and local structure learning simultaneously, but the performance of USLA with multivariate shapelets of different lengths is comparable to that of isometric multivariate shapelets. In fact, the shapelet-transformed representations learned from multivariate shapelets of different lengths can all represent multivariate time series instances separately and often contain complementary information to each other. Therefore, we develop a novel multiview USLA (MUSLA) model which treats shapelet-transformed representations learned from shapelets of different lengths as different views. In this way, MUSLA learns the importance of each view and the neighbor graph matrix among multiview representations when candidate multivariate shapelets of different lengths are determined. Experimental results show that MUSLA outperforms other state-of-the-art multivariate time series algorithms on real-world multivariate time series datasets.

Abstract Relying on user-generated content narrating individual experiences and personalized contextualization of location-specific realities, this study introduced a novel methodological approach and analysis tool that can aid health informatics in understanding the social reality of people with a substance-use disorder in Skid Row, Los Angeles. The study also highlighted analysis possibilities for big unstructured interview text corpus using InfraNodus, a text network analysis tool. InfraNodus, which is a text graph analysis tool, identifies pathways for meaning circulation within unstructured interview data and has the potential to classify topical clusters and generate contextualized analysis results for big narrative textual datasets. Using InfraNodus, we analyzed a 1,103,528-word unstructured interview transcript from 315 interview sessions with people with a substance-use disorder, who narrated their respective social realities. Challenging the overgeneralization of onlookers, the conceptualization process identified topical clusters and pathways for meaning circulation within the narrative data, generating unbiased contextualized meaning for the collective social reality. Our endeavors in this research, along with our methodological setting and selection, might contribute to the methodological efforts of health informatics or the conceptualization and visualization needs of any big text corpus.

Abstract A fiber grating and a one-dimensional (1D) periodic array of spheres are examples of rotationally symmetric periodic (RSP) waveguides. It is well known that bound states in the continuum (BICs) may exist in lossless dielectric RSP waveguides. Any guided mode in an RSP waveguide is characterized by an azimuthal index m, the frequency ω, and Bloch wavenumber β. A BIC is a guided mode, but for the same m, ω and β, cylindrical waves can propagate to or from infinity in the surrounding homogeneous medium. In this paper, we investigate the robustness of nondegenerate BICs in lossless dielectric RSP waveguides. The question is whether a BIC in an RSP waveguide with a reflection symmetry along its axis z, can continue its existence when the waveguide is perturbed by small but arbitrary structural perturbations that preserve the periodicity and the reflection symmetry in z. It is shown that for m = 0 and m ≠ 0, generic BICs with only a single propagating diffraction order are robust and non-robust, respectively, and a non-robust BIC with m ≠ 0 can continue to exist if the perturbation contains one tunable parameter. The theory is established by proving the existence of a BIC in the perturbed structure mathematically, where the perturbation is small but arbitrary, and contains an extra tunable parameter for the case of m ≠ 0. The theory is validated by numerical examples for propagating BICs with m ≠ 0 and β ≠ 0 in fiber gratings and 1D arrays of circular disks.
