Abstract In this study, we investigate a new neural network method to solve Volterra and Fredholm integral equations based on the sine-cosine basis function and extreme learning machine (ELM) algorithm. Considering the ELM algorithm, sine-cosine basis functions, and several classes of integral equations, the improved model is designed. The novel neural network model consists of an input layer, a hidden layer, and an output layer, in which the hidden layer is eliminated by utilizing the sine-cosine basis function. Meanwhile, by using the characteristics of the ELM algorithm that the hidden layer biases and the input weights of the input and hidden layers are fully automatically implemented without iterative tuning, we can greatly reduce the model complexity and improve the calculation speed. Furthermore, the problem of finding network parameters is converted into solving a set of linear equations. One advantage of this method is that not only we can obtain good numerical solutions for the first- and second-kind Volterra integral equations but also we can obtain acceptable solutions for the first- and second-kind Fredholm integral equations and Volterra-Fredholm integral equations. Another advantage is that the improved algorithm provides the approximate solution of several kinds of linear integral equations in closed form (i.e., continuous and differentiable). Thus, we can obtain the solution at any point. Several numerical experiments are performed to solve various types of integral equations for illustrating the reliability and efficiency of the proposed method. Experimental results verify that the proposed method can achieve a very high accuracy and strong generalization ability.

Abstract Norcoclaurine synthase from Thalictrum flavum (TfNCS) demonstrated high stereospecificity and yield in catalyzing the Pictet-Spengler reaction of dopamine with chiral aldehydes, achieving kinetic resolution of aldehydes. However, the mechanism and the factors contributing to the stereoselectivity remain unclear. Herein, by using quantum chemical calculations, the mechanisms of TfNCS-catalyzed reactions of dopamine with both enantiomers of α-methyl-phenylacetaldehyde are studied. The calculations reveal a mechanism mirroring the reaction of natural substrates, for which the deprotonation of the C5-H of the cyclized intermediate is rate-limiting. The calculated overall barriers are 20.1 kcal mol

Abstract Automatic personality trait recognition has attracted increasing interest in psychology, neuropsychology, and computer science, etc. Motivated by the great success of deep learning methods in various tasks, a variety of deep neural networks have increasingly been employed to learn high-level feature representations for automatic personality trait recognition. This paper systematically presents a comprehensive survey on existing personality trait recognition methods from a computational perspective. Initially, we provide available personality trait data sets in the literature. Then, we review the principles and recent advances of typical deep learning techniques, including deep belief networks (DBNs), convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and recurrent neural networks (RNNs). Next, we describe the details of state-of-the-art personality trait recognition methods with specific focus on hand-crafted and deep learning-based feature extraction. These methods are analyzed and summarized in both single modality and multiple modalities, such as audio, visual, text, and physiological signals. Finally, we analyze the challenges and opportunities in this field and point out its future directions.

Abstract This study introduces the establishment and the situation before and after the reorganization of Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH). Meanwhile, it sorted out the important changes in this reorganization of CDRH. CDRH optimizes regulatory decisions by integrating pre-marketing and post-marketing professionals for the total product lifecycle of medical devices, based on product line guidelines. Taking the sutatus of Chinese medical device supervision into consideration, this study put forward some thoughts on scientific supervision.

Abstract Endogenous carbon monoxide (CO) is an important intracellular gas messenger that is intimately involved in many physiological and pathological processes. The abnormal concentration of CO in living organisms can cause many diseases. Therefore, it is of great significance to monitor CO in biological samples. Fluorescent probe technology provides an effective and convenient method for CO monitoring, with the advantages of high selectivity and sensitivity, fast response time and in situ fluorescence imaging in biological tissues, which is favored by the majority of researchers. In this paper, the research progress of CO fluorescent probes since 2018 is reviewed, and the design, detection mechanism and biological application of the related fluorescent probes are summarized. And the relationship between the structure and performance of the probes is discussed. Furthermore, the development trend and application prospect of CO fluorescent probes are prospected.

Abstract Anomaly detection has been applied in the various disease of medical practice, such as breast cancer, retinal, lung lesion, and skin disease. However, in real-world anomaly detection, there exist a large number of healthy samples, and but very few sick samples. To alleviate the problem of data imbalance in anomaly detection, this paper proposes an unsupervised learning method for deep anomaly detection based on an improved adversarial autoencoder, in which a module called chain of convolutional block (CCB) is employed instead of the conventional skip-connections used in adversarial autoencoder. Such CCB connections provide considerable advantages via direct connections, not only preserving both global and local information but also alleviating the problem of semantic disparity between the encoding features and the corresponding decoding features. The proposed method is thus able to capture the distribution of normal samples within both image space and latent vector space. By means of minimizing the reconstruction error within both spaces during training phase, higher reconstruction error during test phase is indicative of an anomaly. Our method is trained only on the healthy persons in order to learn the distribution of normal samples and can detect sick samples based on high deviation from the distribution of normality in an unsupervised way. Experimental results for multiple datasets from different fields demonstrate that the proposed method yields superior performance to state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract A simple photochromic Schiff base was successfully prepared by the condensation of salicylaldehyde and benzoyl hydrazine. This compound has reversible photochromic properties based on isomerization and ESIPT mechanisms. In organic solvents, after irradiation with 365 nm UV light for 2 min, the absorption peak at 367 nm of the compound showed a significant decrease, while a double absorption peak appeared at 418 nm and 438 nm, accompanied by a significant change of the solution color from colorless to yellow. The compound can also complex with Al
