Abstract In recent years, metal halide perovskites have emerged as a rising star among semiconductor materials owing to their low cost, solution processability, and fascinating combination of material properties enabling a broad range of energy applications. Accompanied by the unprecedented success in the photovoltaic community, which has witnessed a certified power conversion efficiency of 23.7%, rapid advancement has also been achieved in the areas of light-emitting diodes, lasers, photodetectors, and solar-to-fuel energy conversion devices. Beyond the dominant format of polycrystalline perovskite thin films for solar cell applications, recent progress in metal halide perovskite crystals, ranging from nanocrystals to macroscopic single-crystals, has spurred a great deal of both scientific and industrial interest. Great research efforts have endeavored to develop new techniques for crystal growth and investigate the physical and chemical properties of the materials and explore their emerging applications. These exciting achievements call for a rationalization of the different forms of perovskite semiconductors beyond the widely used polycrystalline thin films. In the current Special Issue, "Metal Halide Perovskite Crystals: Growth Techniques, Properties and Emerging Applications", we aim to provide a forum for the discussion and presentation of recent advances in the fields of research related to metal halide perovskite crystals

Abstract Pupil abnormalities may be physiological, pathological or pharmacological. It can indicate the underlying disease of the visual afferent system or visual efferent system. Examination of the pupils is therefore a part of eye examination. Insufficient knowledge and inconsistent methods in the pupillary examination by some ophthalmologists lead to mistakes or unreliable results, hampering the disease diagnosis and clinical assessment. This article emphasizes the significance of pupillary examination outcomes, advocates for standardized examination methods, and highlights the need to enhance the awareness of pupillary abnormalities, aiming to provide a guide on how to recognize and interpret the clinical implications of pupillary abnormalities, and to offer valuable insights for clinical practice.

Abstract Intersphincteric resection (ISR), as an ultra-low sphincter-preserving operation, is widely used in clinical practice at present. ISR can allow some patients with very low rectal cancer to avoid the pain of anal resection while ensuring oncological efficacy. However, the procedure of ISR requires wider intersphincteric dissection which may cause nerve damage, and the removal of partial or total internal anal sphincter as an "inherent defect" of ISR can result in poor anal function postoperatively. Based on the in-depth understanding of regional anatomy and physiological function, the author proposed a new functional sphincter preservation operation for very low rectal cancer-conformal sphincter preservation operation (CSPO) which has achieved good outcome in clinical practice. This article will revisit the brief history of rectal cancer surgery and discuss the main mechanisms underlining the poor anal function after ISR. Based on the anatomical study of the pelvic floor and anal canal, CSPO can improve the postoperative anal function of very low rectal cancer patients by reducing the damage of the autonomic nerves, receptor corpuscles and muscle fibers in the intersphincteric space, retaining more dentate line and internal sphincter with the design of resection line of tumor lower border under direct vision, and elevating the anastomosis height. At the same time, the future treatment prospect of low rectal cancer is envisioned.

Abstract With the development of science and technology, more and more new strabismus surgical procedures are introduced in the field of strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology. On one hand, these new surgical procedures improve the effect of strabismus correction and restore or rebuild binocular single vision to some extent. On the other hand, some problems associated with these surgeries have to be faced and resolved. This article review the surgical design mechanism, indications, technology, limitations, potential challenges and ways of resolution, so as to provide reference for clinicians in the processing of new strabismus surgical procedures.

Abstract Agriculture machinery navigating along permanent traffic lanes in the farmland may avoid causing extensive soil compaction. However, the permanent traffic lanes are frequently covered up or eliminated by following tillage practices. It is necessary to identify the wheel tracks designed as permanent traffic lanes in order to ensure the agriculture machinery travels along the designated wheel tracks when cultivating the field. This study proposed an identification method of wheel tracks based on the morphological characteristics of wheel tracks and the environmental conditions around the wheel tracks in the wheat fields. The proposed method first utilized the maximum interclass variance to identify the contours of the main part of the wheel track and the shadow regions around the wheel track's edges. The main part of the wheel tracks was then separated from interference pixels by moving the centerline of the main part of the wheel track, which was derived by skeleton algorithm and curve fitting, towards the right or left edge of the wheel track at a specific distance. In a morphological opening operation, specific linear and circular structural elements were used to segment the shadow regions along the edge of the wheel track. The remaining wheel track was finally recognized by computing the complement of the region identified. After achieving the segmentation of wheel tracks, many reference points near the outside of the wheel track edge in the original image were chosen as fiducial points for evaluating the differences between the actual value and the recognized wheel track edge. The evaluation was based on computing the root mean squared error (RMSE) and the mean absolute error (MAE) of coordinates of reference points and recognized wheel track edge. The results showed that the largest RMSE and MAE were 24.01 pixels (0.0045 m) and 17.32 pixels (0.0032 m), respectively. The low values of RMSE and MAE reveal that the accuracy of the algorithm developed in this study is high, and using this algorithm may segment the wheel track in the wheat field accurately.

Abstract Background: Sepsis, characterized by systemic inflammatory response syndrome and life-threatening organ dysfunction, remains a significant global cause of disability and death. Despite its impact, reliable biomarkers for sepsis diagnosis are yet to be identified.
Objective: This study aims to investigate and identify key genes and pathways in sepsis through the analysis of multiple microarray datasets, providing potential treatment targets for future clinical trials.
Methods: Two independent gene expression profiles (GSE54514 and GSE69528) were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. After merging and batch normalization, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were obtained using the "limma" package. Gene Ontology (GO) and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) were performed using "R" software. A Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) network was constructed using the Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes (STRING). The top 10 hub genes were identified using Cytoscape. A Nomogram model for predicting sepsis occurrence was constructed and evaluated.
Results: Bioinformatic analysis of 210 sepsis and 91 control blood samples identified 72 DEGs. GO analyses revealed associations with immune response processes. GSEA indicated involvement in key signaling pathways. S100A12, MMP9, and PRTN3 were identified as independent risk factors for sepsis.
Conclusion: This study unveils critical genes and pathways in sepsis through bioinformatic methods. S100A12, MMP9, and PRTN3 may play essential roles in the immune response to infection, influencing sepsis prognosis.
