Abstract Node repair is a crucial problem in erasure-code-based distributed storage systems. An important metric for repair efficiency is the I/O cost which equals the total amount of data accessed at helper nodes to repair a failed node. In this work, a general formula for computing the I/O cost of linear repair schemes is derived from a new perspective, i.e., by investigating the Hamming weight of a related linear space. Applying the formula to Reed-Solomon (RS) codes, we obtain lower bounds on the I/O cost for full-length RS codes with two and three parities. Furthermore, we build linear repair schemes for the RS codes with improved I/O cost. For full-length RS codes with two parities, our scheme meets the lower bound on the I/O cost.

Abstract Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a complex mental illness characterized by different mood states, including depression, mania/hypomania, and euthymia. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate dynamic changes in intrinsic brain activity by using dynamic fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (dfALFF) and dynamic degree centrality (dDC) in patients with BD euthymia or depression and healthy individuals.
Methods: The resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data were analyzed from 37 euthymic and 28 depressed patients with BD, as well as 85 healthy individuals. Using the sliding-window method, the dfALFF and dDC were calculated for each participant. These values were compared between the 3 groups using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Additional analyses were conducted using different window lengths, step width, and window type to ensure the reliability of the results.
Results: The euthymic group showed significantly lower dfALFF and dDC values of the left and right cerebellum posterior lobe compared with the depressed and control groups (cluster level P
Conclusions: These findings suggested that patients with euthymic BD exhibit less flexibility of temporal functional activities in the cerebellum posterior lobes compared to either depressed patients or healthy individuals. These results could contribute to the development of neuropathological models of BD, ultimately leading to improved diagnosis and treatment of this complex illness.

Abstract Piggybacking design has been widely applied in distributed storage systems since it can greatly reduce the repair bandwidth with small sub-packetization. Compared with other existing erasure codes, piggybacking is more convenient to operate and the I/O cost is lower. In this paper, we propose a new efficient design which can further reduce the repair bandwidth with the sub-packetization $l\le r$ where $r = n-k$. Generally, we let $l\le 8$. Compared with other analogous designs, our design has lower $l$ and the value of $l$ is more flexible. Moreover, our design can repair all nodes with small repair bandwidth. Therefore our piggybacking design is more feasible.

Abstract Background: Despite being the most generalized formula in China, the Hadlock IV formula has never been examined to determine if it is suitable for Chinese newborns, nor have the factors that might affect its performance been investigated. However, previous studies have reported varying results about other formulas in other nationalities. This study sought to evaluate the performance of the Hadlock IV formula in estimating fetal weight (FW) in pregnant Chinese women and use ultrasound to identify the factors affecting the accuracy of estimations of newborn weight; through these means, we aimed to create a reference for predicting neonatal weight for obstetricians.
Methods: A retrospective observational study comprising data from 976 cases of live-birth singleton pregnancies at the Shanghai General Hospital was conducted. The participants' clinical data were examined and subjected to a logistic regression analysis to identify the multitude of possible factors affecting the estimation of FW. The proportions and correlations between the accurate and inaccurate estimation groups were compared to determine the different prognosis of these 2 groups. The correlations between the accuracy of the sonographic-based fetal weight estimation (SFWE) and newborns with different weight ranges were also analyzed.
Results: The overall accuracy rate of the SFWE predicted by the Hadlock IV formula was 79.61%, while that of the inaccurate estimation group was only 20.39%. The incidence of spontaneous vaginal delivery (VD) was lower in the inaccurate estimation group than in the accurate estimation group (40.7%
Conclusions: The overall performance of the Hadlock IV formula in predicting the birth weight of Chinese newborns remains suboptimal. Extra caution should be exercised in cases of suspected large-for-gestational age (LGA) infants, small-for-gestational age (SGA) infants, infants with macrosomia, or LBW fetuses in the Chinese population.

Abstract Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), with their high strength, modulus, and large aspect ratio, have emerged as a frontrunner in nano-reinforcements. In this study, CNT films (CNTFs) were inserted between carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) prepregs and were cured together to form interleaved composite laminates. The influence of CNTF interleaves on the flexural and interlaminar properties of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates is investigated. Three different types of FRP specimens were tested, namely, 0CNTs-CFRP, 2CNTs-CFRP, and 4CNTs-CFRP. The surface and internal damage characteristics and mechanism of CNTF were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and computed tomography testing methods. The results showed that the flexural strength of 0° CNTs-CFRP beams increased by 3.79 and 14.34% for 2CNTs-CFRP and 4CNTs-CFRP, respectively, while the flexural modulus increased by 7.33 and 13.76%, respectively. It was also found that the damage area and overall deformation after impact with the energy of 5 J was reduced in the CNTF interleaved composite beams. This work has confirmed that the mechanical properties of FRP laminates can be improved by conveniently inserting CNTF during stacking prepregs in the manufacturing process. However, there is a reduction in the flexure after impact properties of the CNTF-CFRP composites, suggesting that the interface between CNTF and FRP layers should be optimized for high residual strength.

Abstract In a modern distributed storage system, storage nodes are organized in racks, and the cross-rack communication dominates the system bandwidth. In We study the rack-aware storage system where all storage nodes are organized in racks and within each rack the nodes can communicate freely without taxing the system bandwidth. Rack-aware regenerating codes (RRCs) were proposed for minimizing the repair bandwidth for single erasures. In the initial setting of RRCs, the repair of a single node requires the participation of all the remaining nodes in the rack containing the failed node as well as a large number of helper racks containing no failures. Consequently, the repair may be infeasible in front of multiple node failures. In this work, a relaxed repair model that can tolerate multiple node failures by simultaneously reducing the intra-rack connections and cross-rack connections is proposed. A tradeoff between the storage and repair bandwidth under the relaxed repair model is derived, and parameters of the two extreme points on the tradeoff curve are characterized for the minimum storage and minimum bandwidth respectively. Moreover, two codes corresponding to the extreme points are explicitly constructed over the fields of size comparable to the code length and with the lowest sub-packetization. Finally, for the convenience of practical use, systematic encoding processes for the two codes are also established.

Abstract In large data centers, storage nodes are organized in racks, and the cross-rack transmission dominates the bandwidth cost. For the repair of single node failures, codes achieving the tradeoff between the storage redundancy and cross-rack repair bandwidth are called rack-aware regenerating codes (RRCs). In this work, we give the first explicit construction of RRCs with the minimum repair bandwidth (i.e., the cross-rack bandwidth equals the storage size per node). Our construction applies to all admissible parameters and has the lowest sub-packetization level. Moreover, the underlying finite fields are of size comparable to the number of storage nodes, which makes our codes more implementable in practice. Finally, for the convenience of practical use, we also establish a transformation to convert our codes into systematic codes.

Abstract Aim: The aim of the present study was to summarize the clinical characteristics and analyze the independent prognostic factors in patients with high-grade endometrial neuroendocrine carcinoma (ENC).
Methods: Patients diagnosed with ENC, endometrioid adenocarcinoma (EAC), endometrial clear-cell carcinoma (ECC), endometrial serous carcinoma (ESC), endometrioid carcinoma with mucinous features (EMC) from 1987 to 2016 were screened from the National Cancer Institute database (surveillance, epidemiology, and end results [SEER]). Kaplan-Meier were used to assess survival. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards analysis were done to examine factors affecting survival.
Results: The median survival times of ENC were 11 months, shorter than that of EAC, ECC, ESC, and EMC (p < 0.01). There was no significant difference in ages, survival rate, and median survival time between large-cell ENC (LCENC) and small-cell ENC (SCENC), which were all belong to ENC. In a multivariable model, the hazard ratio (HR) of death for women with Federation International of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage I-II of ENC was 0.37 compared to FIGO stage III-IV (p < 0.01). The HR of patients who under the surgery was 0.39 compared to the patients who without surgery (p < 0.01), and the HR of patients who received chemotherapy was 0.51 compared to the patients who did not received chemotherapy (p < 0.01). Radiotherapy did not significantly reduce the mortality risk of patients.
Conclusion: ENC was a kind of devastating endometrial cancers with the poorest prognosis. Surgical treatment and chemotherapy were necessary for improving prognosis of ENC. Early diagnosis favored better prognosis. There was no prognostic difference between with and without radiotherapy.
