Abstract Wine flavor is a vital quality characteristic in wine, influenced by those flavor components with low sensory thresholds. It is crucial to recognize and classify the wine components related to their flavor contribution. The integration of fluorescent sensors and artificial intelligence shows huge potential in flavor recognition by emulation of the gustatory perception system. Meanwhile, achieving information identification of wine based on multiple information barcodes has hopeful applications in anticounterfeiting. In this study, we present a simple method in which organic linkers are weaved into a hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF) for the available transformation of a metal-bonded organic framework (MOF) induced by lanthanide ions (Ln

Abstract Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a promising class of porous crystalline materials which can be functionalized by versatile postsynthetic modification (PSM) for further practical applications. Whereas, such crystalline nature of MOFs stands as a serious obstacle to their desired shaping and manufacture for further practical applications. Herein, a multi-step tandem functionalization assembly strategy is employed to fabricate a luminescent MOF-based hybrid polymeric film to endow the luminescent MOFs with processability and applicability. In detail, Eu³⁺ ions are introduced into ZnMOF-5-NH₂ frameworks to create a red emitting-center firstly. Next, methacrylic anhydride is incorporated to react with amino functional groups of Eu-ZnMOF-5-NH₂ to obtain Eu-MOF-L with unsaturated bonds by a covalent PSM strategy. Finally, the copolymerization reaction took place between Eu-MOF-L and monomers (butyl methacrylate) which initiated by benzoyl peroxide. The polymeric hybrid film (Eu-MOF-L@PBMA film) is soft, flexible, and homogeneous. The physical characterization and the luminescence properties of these hybrid materials were studied in details. The multi-color luminescence of these hybrids and their polymeric hybrid films are tuned by optimizing the critical parameters to serve as a white-light emitting device. Furthermore, Eu-MOF-L@PBMA film is utilized for the detection of volatile organic vapors. In terms of their distinct color variation, an effective dual-readout method assists in sensing volatile organic vapors, especially organic amine vapors.

Abstract Xanthoceras sorbifolium has high oil content and important biomass energy value, but its development is limited by the problem of low yield. This study investigated the relationship between the canopy microclimate, fruit yield, and fruit quality of Xanthoceras sorbifolium. Difference between the distributions of canopy microclimate factors as well as fruit and seed parameters in the inner and outer canopies of the lower layer, as well as between the inner and outer canopies of the upper layer, were investigated for a period of one year. Canopy structure induced significant differences between canopy microclimate factors during various periods of the year. Light intensity and temperature of the outer and upper canopies were higher than those of inner and lower canopies. However, relative humidity showed an opposing trend. Light intensity was significantly and positively correlated with fruit set percentage, fruit yield, and seed yield. Temperature was significantly and positively correlated with fruit yield and seed yield, but significantly negatively correlated with the oil concentration of seed kernels. Fruit and seed yields significantly decreased from the outer to the inner canopy and from the upper to the lower canopy. Fruit set percentage in the outer canopy was also significantly higher than that in the inner canopy. However, oil concentrations in the seed kernels of the lower layer were significantly higher than those of the upper layer. Additionally, regression analysis was used to construct evaluation models for microclimate, fruit, and seed parameters. Regression equations corresponding to the association between single microclimatic factors during different periods and the fruit and seed parameters may provide a reference for canopy pruning and help develop an optimal regression model that may be used to predict and estimate fruit and seed parameters.

Abstract Continuous real-time measurement of specific targets in complex biological samples is of great significance for early diagnosis and treatment of diseases and thus enables achievement of personalized medicine. Electrochemical aptamer-based (E-AB) sensors are good candidates to fill this role due to their high specificity, sensitivity, rapid detection, and simple preparation. However, this sensor class suffers from severe baseline drift in the complex matrix probably due to the nonspecific adsorption of components. Here, we introduce a series of self-assembled monolayers with a variety of hydrophobic functional groups into an E-AB sensor platform, achieving enhancement of the antifouling performance and thus the detection performance (e.g., stability, sensitivity, and specificity). We reveal that the antifouling performance enhanced by such hydrophobic SAMs is probably due to its instant adsorption of components onto the surface, rather than the repelling of these components by hydrophilic SAMs in previous reports.

Abstract Herein, a protocol for enantioconvergent transformation of anisole derivatives is disclosed via nickel-catalyzed dynamic kinetic asymmetric cross-coupling of the C(Ar)-OMe bond. Versatile axially chiral heterobiaryls are successfully assembled. Synthetic transformations demonstrate the application potential of this method. Mechanistic studies indicate that the enantioconvergence of this transformation might be accessed through a chiral ligand-controlled epimerization of diastereomeric 5-membered aza-nickelacycle species rather than a conventional dynamic kinetic resolution.

Abstract Histone deacetylases (HDACs) inhibitors such as vorinostat (SAHA) has been used to treat hematologic malignancies (rather than solid tumors) and have been found to suppress the JAK/STAT, a critical signal pathway for antitumor immunity, while PARP7 inhibitor RBN-2397 could activate the type I interferons (IFN-I) pathway, facilitating downstream effects such as STAT1 phosphorylation and immune activation. To elucidate whether simultaneous inhibition of these two targets could interfere with these two signal pathways, a series of pyridazinone-based PARP7/HDACs dual inhibitors have been designed, synthesized, and evaluated

Abstract The pioneering nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling of C–O electrophiles was unlocked by Wenkert in the 1970s; however, the transition-metal-catalyzed asymmetric activation of aromatic C–O bonds has never been reported. Herein the first enantioselective activation of an aromatic C–O bond is demonstrated via the catalytic arylative ring-opening cross-coupling of diarylfurans. This transformation is facilitated via nickel catalysis in the presence of chiral N-heterocyclic carbene ligands, and chiral 2-aryl-2′-hydroxy-1,1′-binaphthyl (ArOBIN) skeletons are delivered axially in high yields with high ee. Moreover, this versatile skeleton can be transformed into various synthetic useful intermediates, chiral catalysts, and ligands by using the CH- and OH-based modifiable sites. This chemistry features mild conditions and good atom economy.

Abstract Yellow-horn (Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge), a valuable plant native to China, is a member of the family Sapindaceae. It is mainly distributed in North China, with a cultivation history of more than 1000 years (Ma et al., 2020). The species can be a tree or shrub, depending on the site conditions. Most trees are tall arbors with a round or spreading crown. Yellow-horn is characterized by a long period of blooming and a high number of flowers. The seed oil is highly valuable for cooking, and as a medicine and biofuel (Ruan et al., 2016; Shen et al., 2019). Yellow-horn is considered an ideal tree species with ecological, economic, and ornamental value. During recent years, yellow-horn has garnered attention and has been widely planted (Wang et al., 2019). Thirty-five varieties of yellow-horn have been certified by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. ‘Yan Xia’ was successfully cultivated in July 2016. It can be grown in North China because of its cold- and drought-resistant nature. ‘Yan Xia’ has a greater number of petals than other varieties of yellow-horn. The color of petals changes throughout the blooming period. ‘Yan Xia’ is taller and has a longer florescence than other varieties; it has a crucial role in urban greening and gardening. Furthermore, the leaves and flowers of ‘Yan Xia’ can be used to produce tea. There are various medicinal components in the branches, leaves, and flowers of ‘Yan Xia’. The cultivar can also be cultivated to serve as a carbon sink, as well as for soil and water conservation.

Abstract Variability in seed and seedling traits of Xanthoceras sorbifolium Bunge was evaluated at the population level. Seed samples were collected from four provenances in China and examined for variations in morphometric traits, chemical components, and seedling growth in the nursery stage. There were significant differences in the seed length, width, dry weight, 1000-seed weight, oil concentration, Mg and Cu concentrations, root biomass, and root–stem biomass ratio. The largest seed in terms of size and weight was from Ongniud Banner, Inner Mongolia (OB), but these seeds also had the lowest seed oil concentration. At the end of the first growing season in the nursery, seedlings stopped growing one month earlier in height than in diameter. The provenance difference in height was significant at the first 2 months after sowing but disappeared later. Genotypic variance (Vg) was found to be higher than corresponding environmental (Ve) variance for seed length, seed width, seed dry weight, 1000-seed weight, diameter, and root biomass, indicating that these parameters were strongly inherited and there was ample scope for improvement. Moreover, correlations between seed and seedling traits and climatic and geographical factors were assessed. Some significant intercharacter correlations were found, such as between seed length, width and seed weight, between oil concentration and seed size, and between seedling height, diameter, and root biomass. Combining the seed- and seedling-related parameters, our results indicated that Mulei, Xinjiang (ML) may be used as an ideal material for a further improvement program.
