Abstract Numerical propagation calculation is a fundamental research topic in optical engineering. The standard angular spectrum method (ASM) is accurate but time- and memory-consuming, especially for high-NA systems. In this work, we propose a fast and simple numerical propagation method, the resampling ASM (RS-ASM). Numerical propagation can be accelerated by combining a resampling technique with interpolation methods in the angular spectrum domain of a constrained object at the focal plane. RS-ASM has three main advantages: simple implementation, faster calculation than the standard ASM, and SNR enhancement. Here we validate RS-ASM using theory, simulation and experiment. Using the "bilinear" ASM with a proper resampling factor can result in a speed-up factor of up to 20x (for a transformation from the angular spectrum to the E field) and 4x (for a transformation from E field to the angular spectrum), together with a SNR improvement of approximately 2x. For an application example of Gerchberg-Saxton phase reconstruction, the "bilinear" RS-ASM can converge 2.6x faster than the standard ASM.

Abstract Image fusion technology had been widely applied in image guided radiotherapy (IGRT) for prostate cancer (PCa) based on the gold fiducial mark (GFM). Image fusion technology included the fusion of CT image, magnetic resonance image, and ultrasound image internally or externally. The application of image fusion technology had improved the identification accuracy of GFM and was helpful for the plan design of PCa radiotherapy. This article provided a systematic review of the application of fusion of various medical images in PCa IGRT in recent years. Among them, the application and result of image fusion technology in GFM identification and the impact on the plan design for PCa radiotherapy were emphasized. It hoped that this review could provide some theoretical reference for the deeper integration of image fusion technology with PCa IGRT.

Abstract Background: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is a serious type of hemorrhagic stroke. It is very important to predict the prognosis at early phase. In this work, we intend to characterize early changes in peripheral blood cells after aSAH and explore the association between peripheral blood cells and clinical outcomes after aSAH.
Methods: aSAH patients admitted between December 2019 and September 2022 were enrolled. A retrospective observational study was performed. Total leukocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, erythrocytes, lymphocytes and platelets counts were recorded on the day of admission (day 1), day 3, day 5 and day 7. Statistical tests included Chi-square test, analysis of variance and multivariate logistic regression (MLR) models. 197 patients were analyzed.
Results: Leukocytes and neutrophils were higher in poor outcome groups from day 1 to day 7 and in delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) groups from day 3 to day 7. Lymphocytes were higher at day 5 and day 7 in good outcome groups and no DCI groups. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) was lower from day 3 to day 7 in good outcome groups and no DCI groups. Erythrocytes were higher from day 3 to day 7 in good outcome groups and no DCI groups. Lymphocytes were negatively related to poor outcomes on day 1 (OR = 0.457), indicating higher lymphocytes predicted good outcomes, Neutrophils were positively related to poor outcomes on day 3 (OR = 3.003) indicating higher neutrophils predicted poor outcomes. Lymphocytes were negatively related to DCI on day 5 (OR = 0.388) indicating higher lymphocytes predicted no DCI, Erythrocytes were negatively related to DCI on day 5 (OR = 0.335) and day 7 (OR = 0.204) indicating higher erythrocytes predicted no DCI. The improved ability of neutrophils, lymphocytes and erythrocytes to predict DCI or poor functional outcomes were revealed by ROC curve analysis.
Conclusions: The dynamic changes of peripheral blood cell counts were related to poor functional outcomes and DCI after aSAH. Elevated neutrophils, leukocytes, NLR, and decreased lymphocytes, erythrocytes were accompanied by DCI and poor outcome. Neutrophils, lymphocytes and erythrocytes counts could be beneficial to predict DCI and outcomes after aSAH.

Abstract We propose a novel format-transparent phase estimation method in coherent optical systems by minimizing the Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence between the signal constellation and the samples for estimation. The proposed metric exhibits the same standard deviation of estimation errors as that in conventional blind phase searching (BPS) with an infinite resolution, while eliminating the pre-decisions in BPS so that phase estimation can be realized using a recursive algorithm. The complexity and the performance of the proposed KL method are compared with previously reported 2-stage BPS, Kalman filtering, principal component analysis (PCA), and the PCA + BPS hybrid method. It is shown that this method is particularly suitable for probabilistically shaped (PS) formats in which the PCA method does not work properly. It exhibits better performance than Kalman filtering and the PCA + BPS hybrid method and has lower complexity than 2-stage BPS. It is also shown that the proposed KL method has a relaxed cycle-slip problem and is less sensitive to the noise due to a smaller number of samples compared to the 2-stage BPS and the PCA + BPS hybrid method. Therefore, the proposed method can be a very promising solution for format-transparent phase estimation in coherent optical systems, particularly using the PS formats.
