    Abstract Background: Copper (Cu) is a component that performs a crucial role in the normal function and development of the human body. Nonetheless, it is still largely unclear how Cu consumption in the diet relates to the risk for all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality.
    Methods: Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2001-2018 were used to conduct a prospective cohort study of individuals between the ages of 20 years and above. Regression coefficients and 95% confidence intervals for the link between dietary Cu consumption and all-cause and cardiovascular-related mortality were computed utilizing univariate and multivariate-adjusted Cox proportional hazards models.
    Results: A total of 197.9 million non-institutionalized American citizens were represented by the NHANES's 39,784 participants. The link between Cu in the diet and all-cause mortality was discovered to be non-linear in our restricted cubic spline regression models. When comparing the highest with the lowest quartile of Cu consumption in the diet, the weighted multivariate hazard ratios for all-cause mortality were 0.91 (0.83-0.99) for Q2, 0.88 (0.80-0.97) for Q3, and 0.86 (0.76-0.98) for Q4 (P for trend = 0.017). An identical trend was observed for cardiovascular mortality, but the association is not significant.
    Conclusion: The most important discovery was that higher dietary Cu consumption was associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality. This trend was also consistent with that of cardiovascular-related mortality, but the association is not significant.

    Abstract Neoblasts are the only cells capable of proliferation in planarians. The traditional flow cytometry protocol using Hoechst inhibits the cell cycle. Here, we present a protocol for culturing and functionally manipulating planarian neoblasts using SiR-DNA-based flow cytometry. We describe steps for cell dissociation and staining, flow cytometry, and cell collection and culture. We then detail procedures for Nanoluciferase mRNA transfection. This protocol facilitates further investigations into the pluripotency and regeneration mechanisms within neoblasts.     Abstract A wideband multi-polarized square-horn antenna based on an orthogonal mode transducer (OMT) is developed for working in the whole W-band in this paper. The designed antenna is capable of radiating multiple polarization modes as horizontal polarization (HP) and vertical polarization (VP) when as single-port excitation and left-handed circular polarization (LHCP) and right-handed circular polarization (RHCP) when as dual-port excitation, owing to the characteristic of the OMT with the transmitting of orthogonally polarized waves. A CNC-layered fabrication approach is proposed, which means that the antenna prototype integrating with a Boifot-type OMT, turning waveguide, twisting waveguide and phase shifter is divided into three layers along the vertical direction to be fabricated based on computerized numerical control (CNC) technology. In the design, the turning waveguide and twisting waveguide are employed to achieve plane consistency of the antenna branch ports. Furthermore, a phase shifter is designed to compensate the orthogonally polarized waves, which can keep the phase of the orthogonally polarized waves consistent in a wideband frequency range from 75 GHz to 110 GHz. A prototype is fabricated and measured to verify the performance of the proposed multi-polarization antenna, and the measured results agree well with the simulation ones. In the whole W-band, the value of return loss is better than 10 dB of all polarization modes, and the value of AR of the LHCP and RHCP is below 3.5 dB. The maximum gain of the antenna reaches up to 18.8 dBi at 110 GHz. In addition, regarding the layered structure, the possible layered assembly error analysis is discussed, which verifies the feasibility of the layered machining for this antenna.

    Abstract Background: Cerebral haemorrhage is a critical condition that often requires surgical treatment, and postoperative intracranial infection can significantly impact patient outcomes. The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between the levels of lactic acid and glucose in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with cerebral haemorrhage and their postoperative intracranial infection and clinical prognosis.
    Methods: The study selected the clinical data of 324 patients with cerebral haemorrhage who underwent surgical treatment in our hospital from March 2020 to March 2022 for retrospective analysis and divided these patients into the intracranial infection group (Group A, n=22, leukocyte values in CSF>5×106/L) and the non-intracranial infection group (Group B, n=302, leukocyte values in CSF 5×106/L) according to the occurrence of postoperative intracranial infection in patients to detect the levels of lactic acid and glucose in CSF at different times in the two groups. Pearson method was adopted to analyze the correlation of the levels of lactic acid and glucose in CSF of patients with intracranial infection, and the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) was used to assess the clinical prognosis of patients. According to their scores, these patients were divided into the good prognosis group (GPG, scores of 4-5 points, n=178) and the poor prognosis group (PPG, scores of 1-3 points, n=146). The levels of lactic acid and glucose in the CSF of patients in the two groups were measured, and the Pearson method was adopted to analyze the relationship between these levels and clinical prognosis.

    Abstract RNA viruses are ubiquitous in nature, many of which can cause severe infectious syndromes to humanity, e.g., the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation has been widely studied for inactivating various species of microorganisms, including viruses. The most applicable UV light for viruses ranges from 200nm to 280nm in wavelength, i.e., UVC. More recently, the synergy of UVA light with UVC has been studied in disinfecting bacteria in polluted water. However, little attention has been paid to studying viral inactivation by coupled UVC and UVA LEDs. The necessity of such research is to find an effective and economical solution for the LEDs of these two bands. Along this track, we attempt to tackle two major challenges. The first is to find a suitable viral surrogate that can safely be used in ordinary labs. In this aspect, lentivirus is commonly used as a genetic vector and has been selected to surrogate RNA viruses. Another is to determine the effective dosage of the coupled UVC and UVA light. To this end, the surrogate lentivirus was irradiated by 280nm (UVC) LEDs, 365nm (UVA) LEDs, and their combination at various doses. Survival rates were detected to compare the efficacy of various options. Moreover, the viral RNA damage was detected by RT-qPCR to disclose the mechanism of viral death. The results have shown that for the same duration of irradiation, the effect of the full-power 280nm LEDs is equivalent to that of the half-power 280nm LEDs combined with a suitable radiant power of the 365nm LEDs. The observations have been further confirmed by the effect of damaging the viral RNA by either the 280nm or 365nm light. In conclusion, the experimental results provide clear evidence of alleviating the requirement of UVC LEDs in viral inactivation by substituting them partially with UVA LEDs.

    Abstract Background: Heart failure is frequently associated with hypoalbuminaemia and poor prognosis. Acute heart failure (AHF) patients are commonly treated with intravenous albumin to improve osmotic pressure and haemodynamics. However, the effects of exogenous albumin supplementation on the fatality rate of AHF patients have not yet been demonstrated. Therefore, the present study strived to examine the impacts of albumin injections on the mortality rate of patients with AHF.
    Methods: This retrospective cohort study evaluated the clinical outcomes of all consecutive hospitalized patients. Data were collected from medical records. The primary end-point was a composite of intubation, emergency renal replacement, or mortality in a time-to-event analysis. An inverse probability-weighted multivariable Cox model was used to compare outcomes between patients who were treated with albumin and those who were not based on the propensity score.
    Results: Among the 1420 consecutive patients hospitalized in our hospital with acute decompensated heart failure between 1 January 2017 and 27 February 2021, 382 were excluded, 337 (32.5%) were administered albumin (median treatment dose of 29.0 g), and 701 (67.5%) were not. The albumin exposure varied by body mass index, age group, previous diagnoses, clinical signs and symptoms, laboratory tests, and use of other drugs in the unmatched sample. The patients receiving albumin exhibited a lower serum albumin level at baseline in contrast with those who were not treated with albumin (median, 37.3 g/L vs. 31.7 g/L, respectively). Overall, primary end-point events occurred in 357 patients (34.4%) (79 died without being intubated or during an emergency renal replacement therapy, 118 were intubated and 160 had an emergency renal replacement therapy). In the inverse probability weighted multivariable analysis based on the propensity score, albumin use was not significantly associated with the composite primary end-point (hazard ratio, 1.05; 95% confidence interval, 0.75-1.47).
    Conclusion: In this observational study of AHF patients hospitalized in our hospital, the administration of albumin did not show a relationship with either a greatly reduced or aggregated risk of the composite end-point of intubation, emergency renal replacement therapy, or death. Therefore, randomized controlled trials of albumin administration are needed for patients with AHF.
