Abstract Thoracoscopic lobectomy is the main type of surgical treatment for lung cancer. Postoperative patients have complications and decreased pulmonary function, which affects their discharge time and quality of life. Lung ventilator training has been shown to promote the postoperative recovery of patients; however, no specific treatment plan has been approved to enhance lung rehabilitation. Therefore, it is necessary to explore methods to promote the postoperative rehabilitation of patients with lung cancer. The patients with lung cancer who were admitted to Banan Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing Medical University (Chongqing, China) between January 2022 and January 2023, and who planned to undergo a thoracoscopic lobectomy, were randomly categorized into two groups. The experimental group began lung rehabilitation training 2 weeks before the operation and received individualized nutrition programs. The control group did not receive lung rehabilitation training and nutrition programs. The quality of life, lung function, 6-min walking distance (6MWD), nutritional status, postoperative complications, hospital expenses and hospital stay between the two groups were compared. Finally, 86 and 83 patients were included in the test and control groups, respectively. Regarding the postoperative indicators, the patients in the test group scored higher in all areas of quality of life, exhibited higher lung function and 6MWD, and had significantly higher serum total protein, albumin and hemoglobin levels, and body mass index, compared with the control group. Furthermore, the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications, the duration of hospitalization and the hospitalization costs were lower in the experimental group. In conclusion, lung rehabilitation training combined with nutritional intervention can promote the postoperative rehabilitation of patients with lung cancer. The research has been duly registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Register platform (registration no. ChiCTR2300078681; registered Dec 15, 2023).

Abstract Background: Oculomotor nerve palsy is a common and well-described disease with diverse etiologies. Clinicians should quickly and correctly diagnose and treat oculomotor nerve palsy according to its characteristics and the accompanying symptoms and signs. Intracranial aneurysm is an important and frequent cause of oculomotor nerve palsy. Considering the catastrophic consequences of rupture, the possibility of an urgent, life-threatening disease should always be considered.
Case presentation: A 63-year-old Chinese woman presented with intermittent left ptosis and diplopia and painless incomplete oculomotor nerve palsy without pupil involvement. She manifested no mydriasis or extraocular muscle weakness, and the light reflex was normal. Other cranial nerves and somatosensory and somatomotor examinations were normal. The neostigmine experiment and electromyography were normal, so the diagnosis of myasthenia gravis was excluded. Brain magnetic resonance angiography showed a 4-mm aneurysm located at the cavernous segment of the left internal carotid artery. Unfortunately, the patient refused digital subtraction angiography and was discharged home without further treatment.
Conclusion: Neuroimaging must be performed to exclude intracranial aneurysms in oculomotor nerve palsy regardless of whether the pupils are involved, as aneurysm rupture carries substantial morbidity and mortality.

Abstract Gel electrophoresis is a powerful technique for the characterization of sequences, sizes and conformations of nucleic acids due to its remarkable separation efficiency. In parallel, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) has established itself as a staple tool for the meticulous characterization and accurate quantification of a multitude of DNA modifications. In this study, we devised an in-gel digestion method for coupling gel electrophoresis with LC-MS/MS. This process involves the enzymatic digestion of DNA within the gel by nucleases and release single nucleosides, which subsequently serve as a preprocessing step for (LC-MS/MS) analysis. We demonstrated that ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in the routine gel electrophoresis buffer reduced the enzymatic digestion efficiency, while Mg

Abstract Based on the data of China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), this paper decomposed Chinese residents' income into labor income and capital income by income source, and measured the income inequality and income composition inequality of Chinese residents during 2010-2018. We take the Gini coefficient as a measure of inequality and, by decomposing it by income source, analyze the absolute and relative marginal effects of capital income and labor income on the overall income inequality. On this basis, this paper discusses the redistributive effect of financial instruments such as personal income tax and transfer payment on income inequality and income composition inequality. The results show that capital income is not only the main driving factor for the increase of overall income inequality, but also its influence on inequality is gradually increasing. The results of the redistribution effect of fiscal instruments show that although individual income tax and transfer payment both help to reduce the overall income inequality, only individual income tax can reduce the inequality of income composition, while transfer payment will exacerbate it. In the background of the rising share of capital income, it may widen the income distribution gap in the long run. Hence, future fiscal redistribution efforts should consider the income composition inequality. This includes further promotion of individual income tax reforms, optimization of the tax rate structure, enhancement of relevant tax laws governing capital income like property income, and continuous improvement in the redistributive impact of fiscal instruments.

Abstract Background: Organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) can damage the brain and may cause abnormal behaviors. There was no population-based study to reveal the relationship between OPFRs and the occurrence of depression. This study utilized a publicly available database to investigate the correlation between OPFRs exposure and the risk of depression, and the mediation effect of inflammation on the correlation.
Methods: Data in this study was from the database of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Multifactorial logistic regression was used to estimate the relationship between OPFRs exposure and the risk of depression, and a mediation effect model was constructed to explore the impact of inflammation on the correlation.
Results: Data of 1273 participants was included in the study. It was found that individuals with high urinary concentration of bis-(2-chloroethyl) phosphate had an increased risk of developing depression (OR = 1.217, 95 % CI: 1.032-1.435). Combined exposure to OPFRs was significantly associated with the increased risk of depression than single OPFRs exposure. Subgroup analyses based on inflammatory levels in the body revealed that inflammation might exert the mediation effect on the association between OPFRs exposure and the risk of depression, with the contribution proportion of 8.23 %.
Limitations: Cross-sectional data and rapid metabolism of OPFRs lead to uncertainty in revealing long-term exposure in the body.
Conclusions: There was a correlation between OPFRs exposure and the risk of depression, which may be mediated by inflammation in the body to some extent.

Abstract Ocular inflammation-associated diseases are leading causes of global visual impairment, with limited treatment options. Adiponectin, a hormone primarily secreted by adipose tissue, binds to its receptors, which are widely distributed throughout the body, exerting powerful physiological regulatory effects. The protective role of adiponectin in various inflammatory diseases has gained increasing attention in recent years. Previous studies have confirmed the presence of adiponectin and its receptors in the eyes. Furthermore, adiponectin and its analogs have shown potential as novel drugs for the treatment of inflammatory eye diseases. This article summarizes the evidence for the interplay between adiponectin and inflammatory eye diseases and provides new perspectives on the diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities of adiponectin.

Abstract Gel electrophoresis is a powerful technique for the characterization of sequences, sizes and conformations of nucleic acids due to its remarkable separation efficiency. In parallel, liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) has established itself as a staple tool for the meticulous characterization and accurate quantification of a multitude of DNA modifications. We demonstrated that ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in the routine gel electrophoresis buffer reduced the enzymatic digestion efficiency, while Mg²⁺ could mitigate this inhibition. We further showed EDTA-free gel electrophoresis and the process of digestion of genomic DNA and plasmid DNA within a gel was fluorescently imaged, proving the efficient digestion of DNA. By this improvement, the efficiency of an in-gel digestion could reach 60% or more of the control, compared with direct in-solution digestion. The measured abundances of DNA modifications (5-methylcytosine and N⁶-methyladenine) via in-gel digestion are consistent with that measured by in-solution digestion. Collectively, we showed an in-gel digestion method, which is a very useful pretreatment technique for the precise quantification of epigenetic modifications in diverse DNA molecules.
