Abstract This manuscript compares deterministic artificial intelligence to a model-following control applied to DC motor control, including an evaluation of the threshold computation rate to let unmanned underwater vehicles correctly follow the challenging discontinuous square wave command signal. The approaches presented in the main text are validated by simulations in MATLAB ® , where the motor process is discretized at multiple step sizes, which is inversely proportional to the computation rate. Performance is compared to canonical benchmarks that are evaluated by the error mean and standard deviation. With a large step size, discrete deterministic artificial intelligence shows a larger error mean than the model-following self-turning regulator approach (the selected benchmark). However, the performance improves with a decreasing step size. The error mean is close to the continuous deterministic artificial intelligence when the step size is reduced to 0.2 s, which means that the computation rate and the sampling period restrict discrete deterministic artificial intelligence. In that case, continuous deterministic artificial intelligence is the most feasible and reliable selection for future applications on unmanned underwater vehicles, since it is superior to all the approaches investigated at multiple computation rates.

Abstract Abstract Real‐time and accurate short‐term traffic flow prediction can provide a scientific basis for decision making by travellers and traffic management, and alleviate traffic congestion to a certain extent. The existing traffic flow prediction methods often encounter limitations in real‐time performance and accuracy due to the post‐processing required to rectify anomaly detection results during data pre‐processing. This paper presents a novel traffic flow prediction model, termed the With‐Anomaly Detection Probability (ADP) Attention‐Bidirectional Long‐Short Term Memory (BiLSTM) model. This model takes the probability of anomaly detection into consideration, integrating the anomaly detection outcomes as an inherent parameter into the traffic flow prediction framework. Additionally, the model incorporates an attention mechanism within the long‐short term memory network. Through a comprehensive simulation study utilizing actual measured traffic flow data from the Shanghai‐Chongqing Expressway, the effectiveness of the proposed model is rigorously evaluated. The prediction results show that the model proposed in this paper is a real‐time and accurate short‐time traffic flow prediction model compared with the basic models.

Abstract Dry topsoil and relatively moist subsoil can occur in specific areas and times, limiting plant growth but creating conditions for hydraulic lift (HL). There is a lack of a rational water and nitrogen (N) strategy to improve cotton growth and maintain HL. This study investigated the effects of three topsoil water conditions (W 0.6 : 60–70%, W 0.5 : 50–60%, and W 0.4 : 40–50% of field capacity) and three N rates (N 120 -120, N 240 -240, and N 360 -360 kg N ha −1 ) plus one control treatment on cotton growth and HL under dry topsoil conditions in 2020 and 2021. The results showed that plant height and leaf area increased with increasing N rate, but the differences among topsoil water conditions were relatively small, except for leaf area in 2021. The HL water amount of all treatments increased gradually and then continued to decline during the observation period. There was a trend that the drier the topsoil or the more N applied, the greater the amount of HL water. Additionally, topsoil water conditions and N rate significantly affected the total HL water amount and root morphological characteristics (root length, surface area, and volume). Seed and lint cotton yield tended to decrease with increasing topsoil dryness at N 240 or N 360 , except for lint yield in 2021, or with decreasing N rate, especially under W 0.6 . As topsoil became drier, the total evapotranspiration (ET) decreased, while with the increase in N rate, ET showed small differences. Water use efficiency increased with a higher N rate, while N partial factor productivity ( PFPN ) did the opposite. Furthermore, the PFPN under W 0.4 was significantly lower than that under W 0.6 at N 240 or N 120 . These findings could be useful for promoting the utilization of deep water and achieving sustainable agricultural development.

Abstract Abstract Background Prognostication is an essential tool for risk adjustment and decision making in the intensive care units (ICUs). In order to improve patient outcomes, we have been trying to develop a more effective model than Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II to measure the severity of the patients in ICUs. The aim of the present study was to provide a mortality prediction model for ICUs patients, and to assess its performance relative to prediction based on the APACHE II scoring system. Methods We used the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care version III (MIMIC-III) database to build our model. After comparing the APACHE II with 6 typical machine learning (ML) methods, the best performing model was screened for external validation on anther independent dataset. Performance measures were calculated using cross-validation to avoid making biased assessments. The primary outcome was hospital mortality. Finally, we used TreeSHAP algorithm to explain the variable relationships in the extreme gradient boosting algorithm (XGBoost) model. Results We picked out 14 variables with 24,777 cases to form our basic data set. When the variables were the same as those contained in the APACHE II, the accuracy of XGBoost (accuracy: 0.858) was higher than that of APACHE II (accuracy: 0.742) and other algorithms. In addition, it exhibited better calibration properties than other methods, the result in the area under the ROC curve (AUC: 0.76). we then expand the variable set by adding five new variables to improve the performance of our model. The accuracy, precision, recall, F1, and AUC of the XGBoost model increased, and were still higher than other models (0.866, 0.853, 0.870, 0.845, and 0.81, respectively). On the external validation dataset, the AUC was 0.79 and calibration properties were good. Conclusions As compared to conventional severity scores APACHE II, our XGBoost proposal offers improved performance for predicting hospital mortality in ICUs patients. Furthermore, the TreeSHAP can ...

Abstract Abstract The structural properties of octahedral sites (BOh) in spinel oxides (AB2O4) play vital roles in the electrochemical performance of oxygen‐related reactions. However, the precise manipulation of AB2O4 remains challenging due to the complexity of their crystal structure. Here, a simple and versatile molten‐salt‐mediated strategy is reported to introduce Ni2+ in Boh sites intentionally on the surface of zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4, ZFO) to promote the active sites for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. The as‐created photoanode (ZFO‐MSNi) shows a remarkable cathodic shift of ≈ 450 mV (turn‐on voltage of ≈ 0.6 VRHE) as well as three times the 1‐sun photocurrent density at 1.23 VRHE for PEC water oxidation in comparison with bare ZFO. A comprehensive structural characterization clearly reveals the local structure of the introduced Ni2+ in ZFO‐MSNi. Fewer surface trapping states are observed while the precisely introduced Ni2+ and associated neighboring Fe(3‐σ)+ (0<σ<1) sites unite in an edge‐sharing octahedral configuration to function as NiFe dual active sites for PEC water oxidation. Moreover, open circuit potential measurements and rapid‐scan voltammetry investigation give further insight into the enhanced PEC performance. Overall, this work displays a versatile strategy to regulate the surface active sites of photoelectrodes for increasing performance in PEC solar energy conversion systems.

Abstract This paper proposes a phase angle-modulated bat algorithm (P-AMBA) for high-dimensional binary optimization. The idea was to reduce the optimization time by introducing angle modulation technology to reduce the optimization dimensions. Different from the original angle-modulated bat algorithm (AMBA), the control of the trigonometric generating function cosine wave is by introducing new parameters, thereby improving the perturbation ability of the function curve near the x -axis. P-AMBA can explore more 0/1 solutions, and it has advantages in optimizing convergence speed and global search capabilities. The numerical results of the 0–1 knapsack problem tests show that P-AMBA is superior to the contrast algorithms on optimization ability and optimization time. Finally, the experimental result of a compact dual-band planar monopole antenna design showed the effectiveness of P-AMBA in engineering applications.

Abstract Tumorigenesis are closely associated with the immune function of the human body. Immunotherapy has emerged as a novel and promising treatment strategy in multiple malignancies in the 21st century. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been extensively used for cancer treatment in China and surrounding countries for it exerts efficient therapeutic effects with few side effects. In recent years, studies have demonstrated that TCM plays a unique and reliable role in regulating tumor immunity. TCM can enhance the antitumor immune response function by regulating the secretion of cytokines, reshaping the balance of immune cells, and regulating immune checkpoints to relieve the immunosuppression. In addition, TCM can reduce the side effects (e.g., cytokine storm) of cancer immunotherapy. Based on the current research of active immunotherapy and passive immunotherapy, this review summarizes the potential applications and existing problems of TCM in tumor immunotherapy. This review may be helpful in illuminating the scientific basis of TCM in tumor immunotherapy, promoting its internationalization, as well as shedding innovating new strategies for the development of tumor immunotherapy.
