    Abstract It is widely recognized that inequalities in social status cause inequalities in health. Women in a family often directly influence three generations-women themselves, their children and their parents -yet the effect of women's family status on their own health status and that of the two generations before and after is not clear. Taking data from the China Family Panel Studies, this study used an ordered response model to investigate the effect of childbearing-age women's family status on the health status of three generations. The results showed that increases in childbearing-age women's family status improved the health status of the women themselves and their children. Unlike previous studies, however, we found that higher family status did not improve parents' health status but decreased it. The mechanism analysis indicated that women's family status influenced the health status of three generations through economic conditions, resource allocation, and child discipline. The results held after robustness testing. Our findings contribute to knowledge in related fields and provide theoretical support for policies that empower women.

    Abstract Background: Cancer stem cells are one fundamental reason for the high recurrence rate of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its resistance to treatment. This study explored the mechanism by which SOCS2-AS1 affects HCC cell stemness.
    Methods: Stem cells of HCC cell lines Huh7 and SNU-398 were sorted as NANOG-positive by flow cytometry. Stem cell sphere formation ability was detected. Stem cell viability, migration, invasion, and apoptosis were assessed by colony formation assays, Transwell assays, wound-healing assays, and TUNEL assays, respectively. The binding sites for SOCS2-AS1, miR-454-3p, miR-454-3p, and CPEB1 mRNA were assessed by dual-luciferase reporter assays. Quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and Western blot studies were performed to evaluate gene expression levels. ChIP and EMSA assays were conducted to confirm that YY1 binds with the SOCS2-AS1 promoter. A subcutaneous xenograft model was used to verify results in vivo. Tumor tissues were analyzed by H&E and TUNEL staining.
    Results: SOCS2-AS1 was expressed at low levels in NANOG
    Conclusions: YY1-regulated lncRNA SOCS2-AS1 suppresses HCC cell stemness and progression via miR-454-3p/CPEB1.

    Abstract Objective: To explore the clinical effect of atorvastatin calcium combined with clopidogrel in the treatment of patients with transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) and its effect on blood lipids and platelets.
    Methods: Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)], platelet-related parameters [prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), platelet count (PLT)], incidence of cerebral infarction, and adverse reactions.

    Conclusion: Atorvastatin calcium combined with clopidogrel demonstrates a positive impact on individuals with TIAs by significantly lowering levels of LDL, total cholesterol, and triglycerides. However, it is noteworthy that platelet-related indices did not exhibit significant differences between the experimental and control groups. While the observed improvements in blood lipids are attributed to the effects of atorvastatin, the combination with clopidogrel did not show a substantial influence on platelet-related parameters. Thus, the overall therapeutic impact, particularly on platelet-related indices, may require further investigation and clarification. Despite these nuances, our findings suggest potential benefits in reducing the risk of adverse reactions and cerebral infarction, supporting the consideration of this approach for wider clinical use.

    Abstract Background and objectives: Duodenal adenocarcinoma (DAC) is a rare tumor that is often accompanied by liver metastasis in advanced stages. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between clinicopathological characteristics and survival in DAC patients with liver metastasis, and to explore appropriate treatment options.
    Methods: 482 DAC patients with liver metastasis were retrospectively identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database (2011-2020). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to explore the clinicopathological factors related to survival. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to identify the independent risk factors associated with survival.
    Results: The 1-year overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) rates for the entire cohort were 25.4% and 28.3%, and the 5-year OS and CSS rates were 2.4% and 2.9% respectively. Univariable analysis and multivariate analysis identified chemotherapy and surgery as the independent risk factors for OS and CSS. Patients who underwent chemotherapy and surgery had better CSS and OS rates, whereas radiotherapy failed to improve outcomes.
    Conclusion: We identified several prognostic factors of DAC with liver metastasis. Chemotherapy and surgery can prolong the survival of DAC patients with liver metastasis, which lays the foundation for identifying the optimal treatment strategy.

    Abstract Matter exhibits phases and their transitions. These transitions are classified as first-order phase transitions (FOPTs) and continuous ones. While the latter has a well-established theory of the renormalization group, the former is only qualitatively accounted for by classical theories of nucleation, since their predictions often disagree with experiments by orders of magnitude. A theory to integrate FOPTs into the framework of the renormalization-group theory has been proposed but seems to contradict with extant wisdom and lacks numerical evidence. Here we show that universal hysteresis scaling as predicted by the renormalization-group theory emerges unambiguously when the theory is combined intimately with the theory of nucleation and growth in the FOPTs of the paradigmatic two-dimensional Ising model driven by a linearly varying externally applied field below its critical point. This not only provides a new method to rectify nucleation theories, but also unifies the theories for both classes of transitions and FOPTs can be studied using universality and scaling similar to their continuous counterpart when nucleation and growth are properly taken into account.

    Abstract China has undergone rapid economic growth and diet transition over the past decades, along with environmental challenges. To help to achieve carbon peaking by 2030, this study investigates the time-variable diet-related greenhouse gas emissions (GHGEs) from 2000 to 2020 and examines the responses of food demands and diet-related GHGEs to an increase in per capita income and animal-based food prices. Based on the Almost Ideal Demand System model, addressing the problem of the endogeneity of food expenditure, we estimate the demand elasticities for six food groups and analyze their changing trends with time. Then, we perform two projections. One is to project the impacts of income growth on food demands and diet-related GHGEs, taking into consideration dynamic income elasticities as per capita income increases; the other is to project the effects of an increase in prices of different animal-based foods on food demands and diet-related GHGEs. Our results reveal that diet-related agricultural GHGEs show a continued increase in the short term, but the increased effect tends to decline gradually. The dominant driver of increased diet-related GHGEs is the increased consumption of beef, mutton, and pork. However, an increase in prices of beef and mutton; pork; and poultry and eggs can reduce diet-related GHGEs, while a decrease in the prices of aquatic products can also deliver a significant decrease in GHGEs. The results imply that policymakers should take an interest in the environmental impacts of diet transition and promote a more sustainable diet structure.

    Abstract Multi-parametric photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) is uniquely capable of simultaneous high-resolution mapping of blood oxygenation and flow in vivo. However, its speed has been limited by the dense sampling required for blood flow quantification. To overcome this limitation, we have developed a high-speed multi-parametric PAM system, which enables simultaneous acquisition of ∼500 densely sampled B-scans by superposing the rapid optical scanning across the line-shaped focus of a cylindrically focused ultrasonic transducer over the conventional mechanical scan of the optical-acoustic dual foci. A novel, to the best of our knowledge, optical-acoustic combiner (OAC) is designed and implemented to accommodate the short working distance of the transducer, enabling convenient confocal alignment of the dual foci in reflection mode.     Abstract As a prevalent neurodevelopmental disease, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) impairs the learning and memory capacity, and so far, there has been no available treatment option for long-term efficacy. Alterations in gene regulation and synapse-related proteins influence learning and memory capacity; nevertheless, the regulatory mechanism of synapse-related protein synthesis is still unclear in ADHD. LncRNAs have been found participating in regulating genes in multiple disorders. For instance, lncRNA Metastasis Associated Lung Adenocarcinoma Transcript 1 (MALAT1) has an essential regulatory function in numerous psychiatric diseases. However, how MALAT1 influences synapse-related protein synthesis in ADHD remains largely unknown. Here, our study found that MALAT1 decreased in the hippocampus tissue of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) compared to the standard controls, Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats. Subsequent experiments revealed that MALAT1 enhanced the expression of neurexin 1 (NRXN1), which promoted the synapse-related genes (SYN1, PSD95, and GAP43) expression. Then, the bioinformatic analyses predicted that miR-141-3p and miR-200a-3p, microRNAs belonging to miR-200 family and sharing same seed sequence, could interact with MALAT1 and NRXN1 mRNA, which were further confirmed by luciferase report assays. Finally, rescue experiments indicated that MALAT1 influenced the expression of NRXN1 by sponging miR-141-3p/200a-3p. All data verified our hypothesis that MALAT1 regulated synapse-related proteins (SYN1, PSD95, and GAP43) through the MALAT1-miR-141-3p/200a-3p-NRXN1 axis in ADHD. Our research underscored a novel role of MALAT1 in the pathogenesis of impaired learning and memory capacity in ADHD and may shed more light on developing diagnostic biomarkers and more effective therapeutic interventions for individuals with ADHD.
