Abstract Based on a sample of Employee Stock Ownership Plans announced by Chinese listed companies, this paper explores whether managers learn from the market in the decision relating to the termination of the Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Results show that: Managers listen to the market and terminate Employee Stock Ownership Plans following market expectations. The more negative the market reaction to the initial announcement, the more likely management is to terminate it, and this effect is more pronounced for firms with non-overconfident managers and in lower market share rank. Moreover, the initial announcement return is reversed by the termination announcement return. When managers follow market expectations to terminate the Employee Stock Ownership Plan with a negative market reaction to the initial announcement, the market reaction to the termination is more positive. Further research finds that compared with the terminations of Employee Stock Ownership Plans that are not consistent with market expectations, the terminations that follow market expectations improve business performance more significantly.

Abstract Cost sharing contracts is one of the most common contracts to coordinate green supply chains. In this paper, we examine whether it can coordinate green supply chains in the set up of overconfidence. We assume that the manufacturer is overconfident and the retailer is rational. The manufacturer overestimates consumers’ sensitivity to product greenness and accurately estimates the uncertainty of demand. The overconfident manufacturer and the rational retailer cooperate through cost sharing contracts. Then, we construct a game theoretical model to analyze the impact of manufacturers’ overconfident on product greenness, pricing, profit and supply chain cooperation. At last, a numerical experimentation is presented. We find that, (1) the product greenness, wholesale price and retail price increase with the manufacturer’s overconfidence as well as the retailer’s cost sharing proportion. (2) no matter how much the cost sharing proportion is, the profit of manufacturers and retailers decreases with the manufacturer’s overconfidence level. (3) cost sharing contracts can achieve the green supply chain coordination in rational setting. But under manufacturers’ overconfidence, it cannot.

Abstract Background: Based on social cognitive theory, this study aimed to examine whether and how social abilities (i.e., cognitive empathy and emotional empathy) are associated with gambling disorder (GD) by incorporating attitudes toward general risk (i.e., risk aversion) and responsible gambling as potential mediators of this link.
Methods: A convenience sample of 580 past-year lottery gamblers (M
Results: Our results showed that cognitive empathy, but not emotional empathy, was significantly and negatively correlated with GD. Also, the effect of cognitive empathy on GD was fully mediated by risk aversion and responsible gambling attitude, whilst the total indirect effect of emotional empathy on GD was nonsignificant. As hypothesized, the indirect paths from both types of empathy to GD were significantly and serially mediated by risk aversion and responsible gambling attitude.
Conclusion: Cognitive empathy, distinct from emotional empathy, was a statistically significant correlate of GD. Moreover, the path model results also suggest that responsible gambling attitude was a salient protective factors against GD. Future GD prevention efforts may benefit from paying more attention to the role of responsible gambling attitude.

Abstract Background: This study explored the effects of attention shifting on Chinese children's word reading.
Objective: The sample consisted of 87 fourth-grade children from Shaoxing City, China.
Methods: The students completed measures of the attention shifting task, reading accuracy test, reading fluency test, and rapid automatized naming test.
Results: The results showed that reading fluency was significantly correlated with attention shifting scores, specifically with tag1 and tag6 (ps < 0.05). The reading accuracy score was also significantly correlated with tag6 (p < 0.05). According to the regression analysis of attention shifting on word reading, even when controlling for rapid automatic naming, attention shifting significantly affected word reading fluency at approximately 600 ms (p = .011). Attention shifting did not affect children's word reading accuracy.
Short conclusion: These findings suggest that attention shifting is significantly associated with children's word reading. Educators should focus on developing children's attention shifting to improve their word reading ability.

Abstract While the vast number of DNA and RNA viruses participate in biogeochemical cycles in natural systems, little is known about virome in river ecosystems. Here, we analyzed the DNA viral composition and its metabolic potential in the Yangtze River, including freshwater (FW) and freshwater sediments (FWS). A total of 1237 river-derived virus contigs (RVCs) were obtained following de novo assembly from 62 metagenomics. We found that the viral diversity is significantly positively correlated longitudinally. Moreover, FW exhibited a greater viral variety and significantly different composition than FWS. The viral co-occurrence network suggested that positive correlations predominate between RVCs. Lastly, 1657 viral functions were predicted by gene ontology. Notably, 96 of 150 RVCs with higher weights identified by random-forest classier were more abundant in FW, which most engage organic cyclic compound metabolic processes and hydrolase activity. Together, this study highlights the previously unrecognized viruses and the importance of their distributions and functions in major river systems.

Abstract The relationship between stock market performance and corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities indicates the extent of acceptance by investors of such activities. Based on a sample of Chinese-listed companies and a quasi-natural experiment, we explore the impact of an important form of market liberalization-the Shanghai-Hong Kong and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect-on the extent of investors' acceptance of CSR using a difference-in-differences approach. The results show that Stock Connect reinforces the favorable correlation between CSR performance and the market response to CSR reports, as well as the positive association between CSR performance and Tobin's Q. This effect is particularly pronounced for nonstate-owned enterprises, firms with lower agency costs, and firms with a lower possibility of using CSR reports for impression management. Thus, market liberalization results in the improved short- and long-term stock market performance of companies with strong CSR records. Further research shows that the benefits of the program are more prominent for companies without Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors (QFII) shareholdings, and the impact of significant foreign ownership through the Stock Connect program on the stock market performance related to CSR engagement is incremental over QFII ownership. The findings support the continuous liberalization of China's capital market.

Abstract Autism is a class of developmental disorders with extremely high rates of disability, affecting patients throughout their lives. There is no cure to date clinically, and early rehabilitation interventions can improve some of the behavioral problems of autistic patients, but these are limited by age and often have minimal effects in older adults with autism. Early diagnosis is also necessary while developing effective autism therapies. At present, the early diagnosis of autism is dependent on the search for effective markers in an attempt to screen differentially expressed proteins in autistic patients using high-throughput assays, such as synaptic scaffolding proteins, microtubule-associated proteins, apolipoproteins, immunoglobulin G complement factor-related proteins, etc. It would also be a big step forward for mechanistic studies of autism if a valid biomarker for autism could be found.

Abstract Objectives: Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) is a vaso-specific inflammatory marker that exacerbates atherosclerotic through inflammatory responses. It can be used to predict the occurrence of adverse cardiovascular events and to assess the residual risk of cardiovascular diseases. This study aims to investigate the correlation between smoking and serum Lp-PLA2 levels in overweight and obese men, and to provide evidence for preventing the cardiovascular diseases.
Methods: Male subjects, who participated in health examination at the Health Management Center, Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University from May 1, 2020 to April 30, 2021, were selected. The smoking status and other information were collected by the Self-test Scale of Physical Examination. According to the smoking status, they were divided into a never-smoking group, a current smoking group, a quit smoking group and a passive smoking group. According to the daily smoking amount, the current smoking subjects were divided into a <10 cigarettes group, a 10 to 20 cigarettes group, a 21 to 30 cigarettes group, and a >30 cigarettes group. According to the smoking years, the current smoking subjects were divided into a <5 years group, a 5 to 10 years group, a 11 to 20 years group, and a >20 years group.Serum Lp-PLA2 levels and other clinical indexes in different smoking groups were measured and compared, the correlation between smoking and serum Lp-PLA2 levels in overweight and obese men was analyzed by logistic regression analysis.
Results: Serum Lp-PLA2 levels were significantly different between the never-smoking group and the current smoking group (
Conclusions: Smoking is correlated with serum Lp-PLA2 levels in overweight and obese men.
