Abstract Background and aims: Health-related stigma arises from the perceived association between a person or group of certain characteristics and a specific disease. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has brought about stigma targeted at individuals and groups who are perceived to be connected with the virus. Wuhan of China was not only the locale where the first COVID-19 cases were detected in the world but was also the hardest hit across China.
    Methods: Using new data (
Results: 69.47% (95% confidence interval (CI): 66.81%─72.13%) of the surveyed Wuhan residents have experienced some forms of stigma related to COVID-19. The average posttraumatic stress disorder score based on the impact of event scale-revised is 20.28 (95% CI: 19.096─21.468) out of 88. In particular, 27.75% (95% CI: 25.17%─30.34%) of the respondents display clinically significant distress symptoms. Moreover, this stigma not only aggravates individuals' posttraumatic stress disorder score by 10.652 (95% CI: 8.163─13.141) but also elevates the chance of developing clinically significant distress symptoms. Specifically, the probability of clinical distress is significantly higher (
Conclusion: The public should be aware of the distress-inducing impact of stigma related to COVID-19 and prevent it from causing more harm to certain individuals and groups.

Abstract The literature has long been debating whether it is high-income or low-income individuals who face higher risks of obesity. In this study I contend that this mixed record about the income-obesity relationship is the result of a failure to account fully for macro-level social contexts. The income-obesity relationship is not uniform in all societies but is conditioned by macro-level social contexts including the society's economic development and involvement in globalization. The 2011 Module on Health and Health Care of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) provides an ideal opportunity for testing the complex income-obesity relationship in a cross-country setting. Employing multilevel models with cross-level interactions, this study finds that the shift in the effect of income from obesity-promoting to obesity-depressing is facilitated by both economic development and globalization. Under the combined forces of economic development and globalization, obesity increasingly becomes a burden of the poor in a society and the social distribution of obesity increasingly mirrors existing social inequality. Nevertheless, the economic development and globalization thresholds for shifting into a significant obesity-depressing effect of income are high.

Abstract: This study investigated the protective effect of tanshinone Ⅱ_A(TSⅡ_A) on the liver in the rat model of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) and the mechanism of TSⅡ_A in regulating ferroptosis via the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(Nrf2) ... ...

Abstract This study investigated the protective effect of tanshinone Ⅱ_A(TSⅡ_A) on the liver in the rat model of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) and the mechanism of TSⅡ_A in regulating ferroptosis via the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(Nrf2) signaling pathway. The rat model of NAFLD was established with a high-fat diet for 12 weeks. The successfully modeled rats were assigned into model group, low-and high-dose TSⅡ_A groups, and inhibitor group, and normal control group was set. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was employed to determine the content of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and malondialdehyde(MDA) in the serum of rats in each group. A biochemical analyzer was used to measure the content of aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alaninl aminotransferase(ALT), total cholesterol(TC), and triglycerides(TG). Hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining was used to detect pathological damage in liver tissue. Terminal-deoxynucleoitidyl transferase-mediated nick end labeling(TUNEL) was employed to examine the apoptosis of the liver tissue. Oil red O staining, MitoSOX staining, and Prussian blue staining were conducted to reveal lipid deposition, the content of reactive oxygen species(ROS), and iron deposition in liver tissue. Western blot was employed to determine the expression of Nrf2, heme oxygenase-1(HO-1), glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4), ferroptosis suppressor protein 1(FSP1), B cell lymphoma-2(Bcl-2), and Bcl-2 associated X protein(Bax) in the liver tissue. The result showed that TSⅡ_A significantly reduced the content of MDA, AST, ALT, TC, and TG in the serum, increased the activity of SOD, decreased the apoptosis rate, lipid deposition, ROS, and iron deposition in the liver tissue, up-regulated the expression of Nrf2, HO-1, FSP1, GPX, and Bcl-2, and inhibited the expression of Bax in the liver tissue of NAFLD rats. However, ML385 partially reversed the protective effect of TSⅡ_A on the liver tissue. In conclusion, TSⅡ_A could inhibit ferroptosis in the hepatocytes and decrease the ROS and lipid accumulation in the liver tissue of NAFLD rats by activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway.

Abstract Purpose: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) represents an increasingly prevalent set of liver diseases. Tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase 2 (TDO2) is the major enzyme of tryptophan catabolism and is abnormally expressed in liver cancer, but the function of TDO2 in NAFLD remains unclear. The current study was designed to probe into the effect and mechanism of TDO2 on NAFLD.
Methods: C57BL/6 mice and TDO2-knockout (KO) mice were fed with a high-fat diet for 16 weeks to construct the NAFLD model
Results: The expression of TDO2 in the liver tissue of NAFLD mice was more than three times that in the control group. Functionally, TDO2 knockout reduced hepatic lipid deposition and liver fibrosis in NAFLD mice
Conclusion: Knocking out TDO2 repressed hepatic lipid deposition and liver fibrosis in mice with NAFLD, and reduced hepatic lipid deposition and expressions of fibrosis-related markers in PA-treated primary hepatocytes by inactivating the NF-κB pathway.

Abstract Main conclusion: Senescence influences leaf productivity through two aspects: photosynthesis and nutrient remobilization. Through distinctively manipulating progress of leaf senescence, it is promising to improve crop yield and quality simultaneously. Crop yield and quality are two chief goals pursued in agricultural and horticultural production. The basis of crop yield is leaf photosynthesis. Senescence is the last stage of leaf development, which usually causes decreasing of leaf photosynthetic activity. Delaying leaf senescence through physiological or molecular strategies may result in higher photosynthetic activity with a longer duration, thus producing more photoassimilates for biomass accumulation. On the other side, leaf senescence always induces degradation of macromolecular nutrients (including chlorophylls and proteins), and nutritional elements in leaves are then resorbed for development of other organs. For those crops with non-leaf organs as harvested biomass, translocating nutritional elements from leaves to harvested biomass is an indispensable physiological process to increase crop yield and quality. This review summarized successful studies about effects of delaying or promoting senescence on crop yield or quality improvement. Considering the distinctiveness of various crops, manipulation of leaf senescence should be specialized during agricultural and horticultural practices. Rational regulation of leaf senescence, such as inhibiting senescence to maintain leaf photosynthesis and then promoting senescence (with appropriate onset and efficiency) to remobilize more nutrients from leaves to target organs, may ultimately improve both crop yield and quality.

Abstract In many parts of the world, the shortage of cultivated land and the food crisis are worsening on a continued basis. Hence, the central and local governments of the PRC have successively issued various related policies to encourage the practice of farmland transfer, promote the eco-friendly utilization of cultivated land, and ameliorate the efficiency of cultivated land utilization. Under the context of large-scale farmland transfer and rural revitalization strategy in China, it is significant to ensure agricultural sustainability through the coordination of farmland transfer and the amelioration of cultivated land green utilization efficiency (CLGUE). In the present study, 30 Chinese provinces were taken as the research object, with the super-efficient SBM model, the coupling coordination degree model and the spatial analysis model applied in combination. Based on the measurement of CLGUE, a thorough analysis was conducted to explore the evolution of coordination degree in regard to farmland transfer and CLGUE in China from both spatial and temporal perspectives. The conclusions drawn from this study are as follows. Firstly, the overall CLGUE exhibited an upward tendency in the PRC, from 0.440 in 2005 to 0.913 in 2019, with a yearly growth rate of 5.47% on average. However, there were significant spatial disparities in CLGUE between different regions and provinces. Secondly, there was a steady increasing trend shown by the level of coordination degree regarding farmland transfer and CLGUE across China. Further, due to the variation in natural and economic conditions, there were significant spatial-temporal disparities in the coordination degree among these 30 provinces. Lastly, there were obvious spatial aggregation patterns at the provincial level regarding the coordination degree in farmland transfer and CLGUE across China. However, there was a declining trend in the level of spatial aggregation patterns for coordination degree.
