Abstract This study presents a modular, electronics-free, and fully onboard control and actuation approach for SMA-based soft robots to achieve locomotion tasks. This approach exploits the nonlinear mechanics of compliant curved beams and carefully designed mechanical control circuits to create and synchronize rhythmic deformation cycles, mimicking the central pattern generators (CPG) prevalent in animal locomotions. More specifically, the study elucidates a new strategy to amplify the actuation performance of the shape memory coil actuator by coupling it to a carefully designed, mono-stable curve beam with a snap-through buckling behavior. Such SMA-curved beam assembly is integrated with an entirely mechanical circuit featuring a slider mechanism. This circuit can automatically cut off and supply current to the SMA according to its deformation status, generating a self-sustained rhythmic deformation cycle using a simple DC power supply. Finally, this study presents a new strategy to coordinate (synchronize) two rhythmic deformation cycles from two robotic modules to achieve efficient crawling locomotion but still use a single DC power. This work represents a significant step towards fully autonomous, electronics-free SMA-based locomotion robots with fully onboard actuation and control.

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the expression and clinical significance of HIF-1α and DcR3 in endometriosis by analysing clinical case data. Tissue samples were collected for tissue chip analysis and staining, and human endometrial stromal cells were isolated and cultured for cell experiments. Additionally, experiments were conducted on collected peritoneal fluid to explore the association and role of HIF-1α and DcR3 in endometriosis.
Study design: Patients who visited the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Central Hospital in Fengxian District, Shanghai, from January 2018 to December 2021 were recruited for this controlled study. Clinical data and tissue chip staining results were collected for multiple regression analysis on the clinical significance of HIF-1α and DcR3. Endometrial tissue, ovarian cysts, and pelvic fluid were collected, and human endometrial stromal cells were cultured. The impact of HIF-1α on DcR3 in different oxygen environments and its role in endometriosis were investigated through PCR, Western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, as well as adhesion and migration assays.
Results: In patients with endometriosis, the expression of DcR3 and HIF-1α was found to be upregulated and correlated in ectopic endometrium. The expression of DcR3 served as an indicator of the severity of endometriosis. Hypoxia induced the expression of DcR3, which was regulated by HIF-1α and promoted migration and adhesion.
Conclusion: DcR3 can be used as a clinical indicator to assess the severity of endometriosis. The hypoxic environment in endometriosis enhances disease progression by regulating DcR3 through HIF-1α.

Abstract This study investigated the dietary structure, Cadmium (Cd) contents in foods and exposure to Cd through diets of the residents in the mining-affected areas of Nandan County in summer 2013 (July to August) and winter 2014 (November to December). The weighing of foods and the chemical analysis of foods were applied to determine the dietary structure, and the concentration of trace element Cd in the diets, respectively, of the residents in the mining-affected areas (Chehe town, Dachang town, and Zhanglao town) and a control area (Liuzhai town), and subsequently the Cd exposure from the diets was estimated. In the mining-affected areas, the geometric mean of Cd in rice and rice products was the highest (0.29 μg/g) among all food types, and it exceeds the value of 0.2ug/g from the China Food Safety National Standard for Maximum Levels of Contaminants in Foods (GB2762-2017). The Cd contents in rice and rice products, vegetables, and beans in the mining-affected areas were significantly higher than those in the control area. The estimated daily food intakes of Cd in the mining-affected areas were higher than the intake in the control area. The THQ in the mining-affected areas of Chehe town, Dachang town, and Zhanglao town was 3.03, 2.31, and 3.27, respectively. All of which were higher than the value of 1.44 in the control area. Thus, the high level of dietary cadmium intakes of residents in this area deserves our attention.

Abstract This study aims to investigate the effects of miR-29b-3p on the inflammation injury of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and explore the underlying mechanisms. The effects of different concentrations of LPS (0, 1, 5 and 10 μg/mL) on inflammation injury in HUVECs are detected by ELISA, CCK-8, EdU, flow cytometry and western blot analyses to determine the optimal stimulus concentration. After stimulating HUVECs with 10 μg/mL LPS, the expression levels of miR-29b-3p are detected, and the effects of miR-29b-3p on inflammation injury are detected by ELISA, CCK-8, EdU, flow cytometry and western blot analyses. Bioinformatic analysis, luciferase reporter assay and confirmatory experiments are applied to identify the target gene bound with miR-29b-3p. Rescue experiments have verified the roles of miR-29b-3p and the target gene in inflammation injury. We found that pro-inflammatory factor was increased, apoptosis was promoted, and cell proliferation was inhibited after the treatment of LPS in HUVECs. Overexpression of miR-29b-3p inhibited LPS-induced inflammatory response and apoptosis while promoting proliferation in HUVECs. Besides, bioinformatics analysis indicated that SEC23A was the target gene of miR-29b-3p and the confirmatory experiments showed that SEC23A was negatively correlated with miR-29b-3p and positively correlated with LPS concentration. Rescue experiments revealed that overexpression of SEC23A partially enhanced the inflammation injury effects in LPS-induced HUVECs with overexpression of miR-29b-3p. Hence, miR-29b-3p repressed inflammatory response, cell apoptosis and promoted cell proliferation in LPS-induced HUVECs by targeting SEC23A, providing a potential target for treating sepsis.

Abstract Recently, research on exosomes in ischemic stroke has become an attractive field worldwide, and therefore the number of relevant publications has increased. The objective of the present study is to visualize the current research status and hotspots in this area by performing bibliometric analysis and helping researchers predict future research trends. Studies regarding exosomes in ischemic stroke were retrieved from the Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index databases of the Web of Science. Knowledge maps were constructed and visualization analysis was performed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace software. In total, 504 publications (336 articles and 168 reviews) published from 2002 to 2021 were identified in this bibliometric analysis. The leading publishing countries were China and the USA, and the top collaborating institutions were Henry Ford Hospital and Oakland University. Analyses of keywords and co-cited references revealed that microRNA, biomarkers, stem cells, therapeutic effects, neurogenesis, and neurovascular plasticity were significant hotspots and emerging trends. According to the bibliometric analysis results, our study identified the research hotspots and emerging trends relevant to exosome involvement in ischemic stroke.

Abstract In power inspection, uncertainties, such as wind gusts in the working environment, affect the trajectory of the inspection UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle), and a sliding mode adaptive robust control algorithm is proposed in this paper to solve this problem. For the nonlinear and under-driven characteristics of the inspection UAV system, a double closed-loop control system which includes a position loop and attitude loop is designed. Lyapunov stability analysis is used to determine whether the designed system could finally achieve asymptotic stability. Sliding-mode PID control and a backstepping control algorithm are applied to analyze the superiority of the control algorithm proposed in this paper. A PX4 based experimental platform system is built and experimental tests were carried out under outdoor environment. The effectiveness and superiority of the control algorithm are proposed in this paper. The experimental results show that the sliding mode PID control can achieve good accuracy with smaller computing costs. For nonlinear interference, the sliding mode adaptive robust control strategy can achieve higher trajectory tracking accuracy.

Abstract Ulcerative colitis refers to an inflammatory disease lasting for a long time, which affects the colon. In China, injections of traditional Chinese herbs have been generally combined with traditional Western medicines such as mesalazine and sulfasalazine to treat ulcerative colitis. Nevertheless, the safety and efficacy exhibited by different CHIs for treating UC remains controversial. Therefore, a network meta-analysis method was employed in this study for the assessment of the effect and safety exhibited by CHI for treating UC. Seven English and Chinese databases were searched for relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from the time of database creation to December 30, 2021. An assessment was conducted for the included RCTs' quality with the use of the Cochrane risk offset assessment device, and this study processed the data with the use of Review Manager 5.3 or Stata16.0 software. On the whole, 42 literature with data on 3668 patients were included. The overall response rate, inflammatory factors, recurrence rate, and adverse reactions were evaluated. In comparison with traditional Western medicines-based treatment, CHI integrated with traditional Western medicines presented an overall response rate (

Abstract Wild plant species from three deserted antimony (Sb) mine areas in southern China were collected to measure eight metal(loid)s. Antimony, As (arsenic), Cd (cadmium), Cr (chromium), Cu (copper), Ni (nickel), Pb (lead), and Zn (zinc) concentrations in plants and soil were analyzed. The soils of the mining area was weakly alkaline and contained toxic levels of Sb, As, Pb, Cd, and Zn. Many plant species in the area (40 species and 19 families) have no clear signs of toxicity. The plants were divided into three categories (high, moderate, and low tendency to accumulate metals) based on their (ratio [RT], bioaccumulation factor [BCF], translocation factor [TF]) values. The plants with a high accumulation tendency exhibited the high potential to absorb Sb from contaminated soil; therefore, they can be used for the remediation or phytoremediation of Sb-contaminated soil.
