Abstract Background: Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are relatively common arrhythmias in the pediatric population, with implications that range from benign to potentially life-threatening. The management of PVCs in children poses unique challenges, and recent advancements in diagnostic and therapeutic options call for a comprehensive review of current practices.
Methods: This review synthesizes the latest literature on pediatric PVCs, focusing on publications from the past decade. We evaluate studies addressing the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of PVCs in children, including pharmacological, non-pharmacological, and invasive strategies.
Results: The review identifies key advancements in the non-invasive detection of PVCs, the growing understanding of their genetic underpinnings, and the evolving landscape of management options. We discuss the clinical decision-making process, considering the variable significance of PVCs in different pediatric patient subgroups, and highlight the importance of individualized care. Current guidelines and consensus statements are examined, and areas of controversy or limited evidence are identified.
Conclusions: Our review underscores the need for a nuanced approach to PVCs in children, integrating the latest diagnostic techniques with a tailored therapeutic strategy. We call for further research into long-term outcomes and the development of risk stratification tools to guide treatment. The potential of emerging technologies and the importance of multidisciplinary care are also emphasized to improve prognoses for pediatric patients with PVCs.

Abstract Objective: This study aimed to analyze the sensitization rate of different aeroallergens in children of different age, sex, and disease groups, describe the changing trend of different aeroallergens in different ages, and analyze the sensitization risk factors for asthma.
Methods: Children (<18 years old) with suspected atopic diseases who visited the Department of Allergy of Children's Hospital Affiliated to Capital Institute of Pediatrics and underwent a skin prick test (SPT) were retrospectively enrolled from January 2019 to November 2021.
Results: A total of 5465 patients (3514 boys, 1951 girls; mean age, 7 ± 3 years) were enrolled. Of them, 3703 patients (67.8%) were sensitized to at least one aeroallergen. Before 4 years of age, mold was the most prevalent aeroallergen (103/380 [27.1%]), whereas after 4 years of age, weed pollen was the most prevalent aeroallergen. After 6 years of age, tree pollen became the second most prevalent aeroallergen. After 12 years of age, the sensitization rate of indoor aeroallergens was lower than that of outdoor aeroallergens. Logistic regression showed that sensitization to mold (odds ratio [OR]:1.4, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.2-1.7,
Conclusions: Mold is an important allergen in early life. Different kinds of allergens affect different age groups. Patients who are sensitized to mold or animal dander or experience polysensitization should be carefully monitored for asthma risk.

Abstract Introduction: Despite the advances made in cancer treatment in the past decades, therapeutic efficacy is still quite challenging, partially due to the emergence of multidrug resistance (MDR). It is crucial to decipher the underlying mechanisms of resistance in order to develop new therapeutic strategies for cancer patients. Previous studies have shown that activation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) plays key roles in various cellular processes including proliferation, anti-apoptosis, metastasis, invasion, and chemoresistance.
Areas covered: In this review, we conduct an integrated analysis of the evidence suggesting the vital roles of the NF-κB signaling pathway in MDR during chemotherapy, immunotherapy, endocrine, and targeted therapy. A literature search was performed on NF-κB and drug resistance in PubMed up to February 2023.
Expert opinion: This review summarizes that the NF-κB signaling pathway exhibits a crucial role in enhancing drug resistance in chemotherapy, immunotherapy, endocrine, and targeted therapy. The application of combination therapy with existing antineoplastic drugs and a safe NF-κB inhibitor could become a promising strategy in cancer treatment. A better understanding of the pathway and mechanisms of drug resistance may help exploit safer and more effective NF-κB-targeting agents for clinical use in the future.

    Abstract We determine the resonant parameters of the vector states $\phi(1680)$ and $\phi(2170)$, by doing a combined fit to the $e^{+}e^{-}\to \eta\phi$ cross sections from threshold to $2.85~\rm GeV$ measured by BaBar, Belle, BESIII and CMD-3 experiments. The mass $(1678^{+5}_{-3} \pm 7)~\rm MeV/c^2$ and the width $(156\pm 5 \pm 9)~\rm MeV$ are obtained for the $\phi(1680)$, and the mass $(2169\pm 5 \pm 6)~\rm MeV/c^2$ and the width $(96^{+17}_{-14} \pm 9)~\rm MeV$ for the $\phi(2170)$. The statistical significance of $\phi(2170)$ is $7.2\sigma$. Depending on the interference between the $\phi(1680)$, $\phi(2170)$ and a non-resonant $\eta\phi$ amplitude in the nominal fit, we obtain four solutions and $\Gamma^{e^{+}e^{-}}_{\phi(1680)}\cdot \mathcal{B}[\phi(1680)\to\eta\phi] = (79 \pm 4 \pm 16)$, $(127\pm 5 \pm 12)$, $(65^{+5}_{-4} \pm 13)$ or $(215 ^{+8}_{-5} \pm 11)~\rm eV$, and $\Gamma^{e^{+}e^{-}}_{\phi(2170)}\cdot \mathcal{B}[\phi(2170)\to\eta\phi] = (0.56^{+0.03}_{-0.02} \pm 0.07)$, $(0.36^{+0.05}_{-0.03} \pm 0.07)$, $(38 \pm 1 \pm 5)$ or $(41\pm 2 \pm 6)~\rm eV$, respectively. We also search for the production of $X(1750)\to \eta\phi$ and the significance is only $2.0\sigma$, then we determine the upper limit of $\Gamma^{e^{+}e^{-}}_{X(1750)}\cdot \mathcal{B}[X(1750)\to\eta\phi]$ at $90\%$ confidence level.

Abstract In this letter, an improved SIR (ISIR) model is proposed, to analyze the spread of COVID-19 during the time window 21/01/2020-08/02/2021. The parameters can be extracted from an inverse problem of the ISIR to assess the risk of COVID-19. This study identifies that the cure rate is 0.05 and the reproduction number is 0.4490 during the time interval. The prediction values demonstrates high similarity to the reported data. The results indicate that the disease had been under control in China.

Abstract Background: Cow's milk allergy (CMA) is one of the most common food allergies in young children. As improved diagnostic tools, allergic tests are inconsistent and limited in predicting anaphylaxis.
Objective: To explore risk factors for anaphylaxis and to determine practical cut-offs for allergic tests in predicting anaphylaxis.
Methods: This is a prospective cohort study. Children with IgE-mediated CMA were enrolled and divided into three groups (Group 1: non-anaphylaxis; Group 2: GRADE I anaphylaxis; Group 3: GRADE II-IV anaphylaxis that warranted epinephrine). Prick-to-prick tests (PTPs) using fresh cow's milk (CM) were performed. Serum specific IgE (sIgE) against CM and its components, including casein, alpha-lactalbumin, beta-lactoglobulin, and bovine serum albumin were measured. The 90% and 95% positive predictive value (PPV) decision points for predicting anaphylaxis were determined. Potential predictors of anaphylaxis were evaluated in logistic regression models.
Results: This study included 134 CMA patients with a median age of 14.4 months. The sensitization rate to any CM component was 89%. Group 3 was more likely to be sensitized to multiple CM components and have higher sIgE levels. The 95% PPV diagnostic decision points of casein-sIgE in predicting anaphylaxis was 13.0 kUA/L. For GRADE II-IV anaphylaxis, casein-sIgE ≥ 54.9 kUA/L could provide a PPV of 88.9%. The elevated casein-sIgE level (OR 14.0, P=0.025) and complicating respiratory allergic diseases (OR 4.8, P=0.022) were independent risk factors for GRADE II-IV anaphylaxis.
Conclusion: High casein-sIgE levels are strongly associated with CM anaphylaxis. Detection of casein-sIgE may offer an additional value for the prediction of CM anaphylaxis.

Abstract Matrine (MT), an active ingredient derived from Sophor flavescens Ait, is used as a therapeutic agent to treat liver disease and cancer. However, the serious toxic effects of MT, including nephrotoxicity, have limited its clinical application. Here, we explored the involvement of ferroptosis in MT-induced kidney injury and evaluated the potential efficacy and underlying mechanism of sodium selenite (SS) in attenuating MT-induced nephrotoxicity. We found that MT not only disrupts renal structure in mice but also induces the death of NRK-52E cells. Additionally, MT treatment resulted in significant elevations in ferrous iron, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation levels, accompanied by decreases in glutathione (GSH) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) levels. SS effectively mitigated the alterations in ferroptosis-related indicators caused by MT and prevented MT-induced nephrotoxicity as effectively as Fer-1 in vivo and in vitro. SS also reversed the MT-induced reduction in GPX4, CTH and xCT protein levels. However, the glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) inhibitor RSL3 and knockdown of GPX4, CTH, or xCT via siRNA abolished the protective effect of SS against MT-induced nephrotoxicity, indicating that SS exhibited antiferroptotic effects via the GSH-GPX4 antioxidant system. Overall, MT-induced ferroptosis triggers nephrotoxicity, and SS is a promising therapeutic drug for alleviating MT-induced renal injury by activating the GSH-GPX4 axis.
