Abstract Melanoma of the uterine cervix is an exceedingly rare malignancy that has high recurrence rates and distant metastases. In general, surgery is the preferred treatment for this tumor, and depending on stage additional consideration to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Immunotherapy has emerged as a new treatment option in this context. The aim of this study was to report a case of melanoma of the uterine cervix that progressed rapidly to death while the patient was undergoing immunotherapy with nivolumab. A 39-year-old woman presented with an amelanotic ulcerated lesion of the uterine cervix in February of 2023. Histopathology study demonstrated melanoma of the uterine cervix. Treatment was initiated with surgery. Two months after cancer diagnosis, the tumor board decided to initiate adjuvant treatment with nivolumab. After four cycles of immunotherapy, progression of the disease occurred with death of the patient within six months of follow-up. The rare case presented illustrates the aggressive natural history of the tumor and possible use of immunotherapy in this context, despite current evidence that response to nivolumab is less effective in cervical melanoma than in skin melanoma.

Abstract Metastases may occur in early-stage or locally-advanced tumors in diverse locations. Nevertheless, the uterine cervix is an uncommon site for metastasis, since the majority of tumors in this organ is primary carcinomas or result from the direct extension of primary pelvic tumors. The objective of the current study was to report a clinical case considered rare in the literature, as well as discuss its implications and peculiarities. This case report describes a 57-year-old patient with lobular carcinoma metastatic to the uterine cervix, >3 years after the termination of the left breast cancer treatment. A literature analysis confirmed that most cases presented with vaginal bleeding or abdominal discomfort, but many were asymptomatic. Common characteristics between the cases were the patient's age, the time period between primary tumor diagnosis and the emergence of metastatic lesions, treatment, medication, and signs/symptoms. Although rare, metastasis should be considered in women with a history of breast cancer, particularly when the complaint is abnormal vaginal bleeding.

Abstract Lymphoepithelial carcinoma (LEC) is an uncommon, aggressive cancer that affects mainly the nasopharynx (a form that is closely related to the Epstein-Barr virus). LEC of the larynx/hypopharynx is extremely rare, accounting for only 0.2% of malignant tumors of the larynx. This study describes a case of locally advanced LEC of the larynx/hypopharynx with effective response to chemoradiation (an option that spares the patient from the risks of surgical resection). A 60-year-old sedentary, hypertensive male patient with a previous history of smoking and alcohol abuse received a histopathological diagnosis of locally advanced LEC of the larynx/hypopharynx in May 2018. He underwent treatment with chemoradiation and exhibited a complete clinical response. At about 3 years of follow-up, the patient is currently alive, free from disease and has not presented any tumor recurrences.

Abstract Background: Sarcomas account for less than 1% of primary breast cancers, and breast angiosarcomas are responsible for only 0.05% of all breast malignancies. The male breast has the same potential for malignant transformation as the female breast. However, due to anatomical differences in the breast and the low incidence of angiosarcoma, it is difficult to determine how male breasts can be affected by this type of tumor.
Case presentation: A 36-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital with a palpable lump in his right breast. Lymphadenopathy was negative. Ultrasonography showed a hypoechoic mass with partially defined contours, measuring 4.0 × 3.0 cm, with muscle infiltration. Histological examination revealed a malignant tumor. Radical mastectomy was then performed with clear surgical margins. The patient began chemotherapy with paclitaxel. Following the second cycle of chemotherapy, he presented with headache and seizures due to a frontal lobe metastasis. Twenty days after the onset of neurological symptoms, the patient died.
Conclusions: Primary angiosarcomas of the male breast are extremely rare. This is the sixth case published in the literature. It is in agreement with other studies in the literature concerning clinical presentation and poor prognosis. Treatment consists in surgical removal of the tumor with clear margins and without axillary lymphadenectomy.

Abstract Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of tamoxifen on angiogenesis induced in rabbit cornea by breast carcinoma from post-menopausal women.
Methods: Thirteen post-menopausal women with operable, estrogen receptor-positive breast carcinomas, treated with 20 mg of tamoxifen daily for 30 days prior to undergoing definitive surgery, participated in this study. Twenty-six virgin female New Zealand white rabbits, 3-4 months old, weighing approximately 2.5 kg each, were divided into two groups of 13 animals and received corneal implants of tumor either pre- or post-tamoxifen treatment. After 10 days, the animals were sacrificed, the region of the cornea between the tumor implant and the limbus was removed and quantification of angiogenesis was carried out by evaluating the entire hematoxylin-eosin stained slide, using a 10x objective lens (100x magnification). Student t-test was used in the statistical analysis of the data and statistical significance was established at P < 0.05.
Results: Mean microvessel count was 106.8 +/- 5.9 pre-tamoxifen treatment and 54 +/- 5.6 post-treatment. According to Student t-test, there was a significant reduction in mean microvessel density following treatment with tamoxifen (P < 0.001).
Conclusions: Rabbit cornea proved to be an interesting experimental model for the quantification of angiogenesis. Tamoxifen, when administered for 30 days to post-menopausal women with breast cancer, significantly inhibited angiogenesis induced by tumor fragments in rabbit cornea.
