Abstract While the problematic use of Social Networking Sites (SNS) has been observed in some individuals, few validated and widely accepted measures are available to assess and screen for problematic use. This is an attempt at adapting the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-based Internet Gaming Disorder Test-10 (IGDT-10) measure to assess SNS use disorder and problematic SNS use in the form of the SNS use disorder Test-10 (SNS-DT-10) questionnaire, and assessing its validity and reliability. The study was conducted in three phases: First, the IGDT-10 questionnaire was translated and adapted to assess SNS use disorder, and content validity was assessed. Then, a sample of 126 students from the Tehran University of Medical Sciences was used to determine internal consistency and construct validity using confirmatory factor analysis. Finally, retest data from 87 participants were used to estimate test-retest reliability. Item content validity indices were above .80 and scale content validity indices surpassed .83. The root mean square error of approximation for the 1-factor model was .04 and the comparative fit and Tucker-Lewis fit indices were .97 and .96, respectively, indicating appropriate construct validity. The intra-class correlation coefficient of the number of positive criteria for SNS use disorder was .81 and the Kappa coefficients for SNS use disorder and problematic SNS use were .85 and .57. Cronbach's alpha was .79 for the entire questionnaire. Overall, the SNS-DT-10 questionnaire has appropriate content and construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability. Further validation of this questionnaire in larger and more diverse samples and comparison with professional clinical diagnostic interviews are warranted.

Abstract Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is expanding to epidemic levels globally due to the progressing prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM). In this study, the association between factor V Leiden (FVL), MTHFRC677T, and FXIIIVal34Leu polymorphisms and diabetic retinopathy was investigated in Eastern Iran. Methods: This case-control study enlisted the participation of 300 people (diabetic patients=100, diabetic retinopathy patients=100, healthy controls=100), and polymorphisms were examined by Tetra primer ARMS-PCR. Results: The frequency of FVL (p=0.294) and FXIIIVal34Leu (P=0.349) polymorphism showed no significant results between the genotype frequency in the mentioned groups. In contrast, MTHFRC677T SNP was significantly different in diabetic patients and controls (P=0.008). The MTHFRC677T polymorphism was found to be connected with increased systolic blood pressure in patients who had the TT genotype (130.96±11.92mm/Hg; P=0.011). Conclusion: Our study recommended that the MTHFRC677T polymorphism may offer to DR development. Studies with larger sample sizes and a wider spectrum of populations are authorized to verify this finding.

Abstract We present recent results on compact and power efficient C-band distributed feedback lasers through adhesive bonding of a III-V die onto a silicon-on-insulator circuit. A wall-plug efficiency up to 16% is achieved for bias currents below 40 mA. The laser cavity is 180 µm long and a single facet output power up to 11 mW is measured at 20 °C by incorporating a broadband reflector in the silicon waveguide at one side of the cavity. Single mode operation at 1567 nm with a side mode suppression ratio of around 55 dB is demonstrated. By controlling the phase of the external feedback, the laser linewidth is decreased to 28 kHz. Measurement result shows a low relative intensity noise below -150 dB/Hz at 60 mA up to 6 GHz. We also report 20 and 10 Gbps data transmission at a bias current of 50 mA at 20 °C and 40 °C, respectively.

Abstract: ... heavy metal (Pb, Co, V, Ni) concentration levels in surficial sediments of the Arvand River and their impacts ...

Abstract In the current study, the determination of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) and selected heavy metal (Pb, Co, V, Ni) concentration levels in surficial sediments of the Arvand River and their impacts on benthic invertebrate assemblages are investigated. For this purpose, a total of 100 surface sediment samples from 10 stations were collected for TPHs, heavy metals, macroinvertebrates, TOM, and grain size measurements using a Van-Veen grab sampler during winter 2018. A Horiba U10 multiparameter probe was used at each station for the in-situ measurement of environmental variables of water samples close to river bottom using a Nansen bottle sampler. Sediment quality guidelines along with Pearson’s correlation analysis and calculated diversity indices revealed that Arvand River Estuary (ARE) is threatened by contamination, especially with respect to Ni, Pb, and TPHs. The relatively high concentrations of Ni in most stations and Pb in some stations comparing to guidelines and other regions can be related to industrial activities as well as passing several ships and boats in the region. Shannon–Wiener diversity values recorded in the present study ranged between 0 and 2.01 indicating heavy to moderate pollution status in ARE. Altogether, the present study findings could be useful as the baseline for future research and better management for reducing contaminant levels.

Abstract: ... to investigate the association of three thrombophilic polymorphisms including factor V Leiden (FVL), MTHFRC677T ...

Abstract Abstract Background Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a leading cause of death and morbidity around the world. Although the association between thrombophilia and AMI is well-established, controversial data are present on the association between thrombophilic polymorphisms and AMI. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of three thrombophilic polymorphisms including factor V Leiden (FVL), MTHFRC677T (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase), and Coagulation factor XIIIVal34Leu with AMI in East of Iran. Result There were no statistically significant differences between the patients and control groups in terms of the distributions of allelic and genotypic frequencies of FVL and FXIIIVal34Leu polymorphisms (P-value > 0.05). Subjects who carried CT genotype of MTHFR C677T polymorphism were at a 2.03-fold higher risk for AMI (P-value: 0.02, OR 1.76, 95% CI 1.07–2.75). Furthermore, patients with MTHFR 677CT (P-value < 0.001, β = - 0.90, 95% CI − 1.33, − 047) or 677CC (P-value < 0.001, β = - 1.04, 95% CI − 1.47, − 0.61) genotypes showed significantly Lower creatinine levels compared with patients having the MTHFR 677TT. No association was observed between the other remaining polymorphisms and AMI (P-value > 0.05). Conclusion Our findings showed that MTHFRC677T polymorphism could contribute to AMI susceptibility and increase creatinine levels in east Iran population. This was the first study to examine the association of these three polymorphisms with AMI in east Iran.

Abstract We report on single-mode C-band distributed feedback lasers fabricated through micro-transfer-printing of semiconductor optical amplifier coupons fabricated on a InP source wafer onto a silicon-on-insulator photonic circuit. The coupons are micro-transfer printed on quarter-wave shifted gratings defined in SiN deposited on the silicon waveguide. Alignment-tolerant adiabatic tapers are used to efficiently couple light from the hybrid III-V/Si waveguide to the Si waveguide circuit. 80 mA threshold current and a maximum single-sided waveguide-coupled output power above 6.9 mW is obtained at 20 °C. Single mode operation around 1558 nm with > 33 dB side mode suppression ratio is demonstrated. Micro-transfer printing-based heterogeneous integration is promising for the wafer-level integration of advanced laser sources on complex silicon photonic integrated circuit platforms without changing the foundry process flow.
