Abstract Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is extremely malignant and difficult to treat. The adenoviral early region 2 binding factors (E2Fs) target pathway is thought to have a major role in tumor growth. This study aimed to identify a predictive E2F target signature and facilitate individualized treatment for HCC patients. Methods: We constructed an E2F target-related gene profile using univariate COX and LASSO regression models and proved its predictive efficacy in external cohorts. Furthermore, we characterized the role of the E2F target pathway in pathway enrichment, immune cell infiltration, and drug sensitivity of HCC.Results: Lasso Cox regression created an E2F target-related gene signature of GHR, TRIP13, and CDCA8. HCC patients with high risk were correlated with shorter survival time, immune evasion, tumor stem cell characteristics and high sensitivity to Tipifarnib and Camptothecin drugs. Conclusion: Hepatocellular carcinoma prognosis was predicted by an E2F target signature. This finding establishes the theoretical usefulness of the E2F target route in customized identification and treatment for future research.

Abstract Dye-contaminated water and waste plastic both pose enormous threats to human health and the ecological environment, and simultaneously solving these two issues in a sustainable and resource-saving way is highly important. In this work, a sodium alginate-polyethylene terephthalate-sodium alginate (SA@PET) composite adsorbent for efficient dye removal is fabricated using wasted PET bottle and marine plant-based SA via simple and energy-efficient nonsolvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) method. Benefiting from its porous structure and the abundant binding sites, SA@PET shows an excellent methylene blue (MB) adsorption capacity of 1081 mg g

Abstract An accurate assessment of farmers’ participation in shelter forest construction and protection behavior is of great practical significance for the renewal and restoration of degraded shelter forests, improvements in the ecological environment, and the sustainable development of agroforestry. This study was based on the theory of planned behavior and structural equation modeling. The cognition and behavior of farmers in typical wind and sand areas of the Hexi Corridor were constructed to measure their participation in the construction and protection of shelter forests from the “cognition-behavior” dimension. The results showed that all three dimensions of farmers’ perceptions had a significant positive effect on farmers’ participation in the construction and protection of shelter forests. The combined path coefficients of the three dimensions were behavioral attitudes (0.337), subjective norms (0.216), and perceived behavioral control (0.170), with farmers’ behavioral attitudes having a more pronounced effect on forest construction and protection behaviors. In the behavioral response to the construction and protection of shelter forests, farmers have a positive attitude toward compensation, management, and pest control, while the response to adjustment pattern, willingness to pay, and tree species replacement is relatively insignificant. It is suggested that the government should increase the publicity of shelter forest protection, improve the ecological compensation and reward and punishment mechanism, improve the management system, and strengthen the training of farmers’ professional knowledge and skills. These measures could increase farmers’ awareness of forest construction and protection to ensure that farmers actively participate in the construction and management of shelter forests.

Abstract Histone deacetylases (HDACs) contribute significantly to the initiation, progression, and prognosis of colorectal adenocarcinoma (COAD). Additionally, HDACs regulate the tumor microenvironment, immune escape, and tumor stem cells, and are closely linked to COAD prognosis. We developed a prognostic model for COAD that incorporates HDACs to evaluate their specific roles. The COAD dataset containing clinical and mutation data was collected using the TCGA and GEO databases to obtain genes associated with HDAC. LASSO analysis and univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis were used to determine the presence of prognostic genes. Multivariate Cox analysis was also used to determine risk scores for HDAC-related features. Furthermore, genomic alterations, immune infiltration, and drug response were compared between high- and low-risk groups. Cellular experiments validated the potential regulatory role of BRD3 on COAD proliferation, migration, and apoptosis. The median risk scores, calculated based on the characteristics, demonstrated a more significant prognostic improvement in patients in the low-risk group. Furthermore, HDAC-related features were identified as important independent prognostic factors for patients with COAD. Additionally, genomic mutation status, immune infiltration, and function, as well as response to immunotherapy and chemotherapy, were found to be associated with risk scores. Subgroup analyses indicate that anti-PD-1 therapy may be beneficial for patients in the low-risk group. Additionally, a decrease in risk score was associated with a decrease in immune infiltration. Finally, HCT116 and HT29 cells exhibited inhibition of BRD3 gene proliferation and migration, as well as promotion of apoptosis. In patients with COAD, HDAC-related characteristics may be useful in predicting survival and selecting treatment.

Abstract Tuberculosis (TB) caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is the leading lethal infectious disease with 1.3 million deaths in 2020. Despite significant advances have been made in detection techniques and therapeutic approaches for tuberculosis, no suitable diagnostic tools are available for early and precise screening. Many studies have reported that Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a regulatory role in gene expression in the host immune response against Mtb. Dysregulation of lncRNAs expression patterns associated with immunoregulatory pathways arose in mycobacterial infection. Meanwhile, host-induced lncRNAs regulate antibacterial processes such as apoptosis and autophagy to limit bacterial proliferation. In this review, we try to summarize the latest reports on how dysregulated expressed lncRNAs influence host immune response in tuberculosis infection. We also discuss their potential clinical prospects for tuberculosis diagnosis and development as molecular biomarkers.

Abstract Impurity doping is a necessary technology for the application of semiconductor materials in microelectronic devices. The quantification of doping effects is crucial for controlling the transport properties of semiconductors. Here, taking two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal boron phosphide semiconductor as an example, we employ coherent potential approximation method to investigate the electronic properties of 2D semiconductor materials at low doping concentrations, which cannot be exploited with conventional density function theory. The results demonstrate that the positive or negative impurity potential in 2D semiconductors determines whether it is p-type or n-type doping, while the impurity potential strength decides whether it is shallow-level or deep-level doping. Impurity concentration has important impacts on not only the intensity but also the broadening of impurity peak in band gap. Importantly, we provide the operating temperature range of hexagonal boron phosphide as a semiconductor device under different impurity concentrations and impurity potentials. The methodology of this study can be applied to other 2D semiconductors, which is of great significance for quantitative research on the application of 2D semiconductors for electronic devices.
