Abstract Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a clinicopathological disease defined by symptoms of esophageal dysfunction and ≥15 eosinophils/HPF after excluding other causes of esophageal eosinophilia. Increasing attention has been paid by clinicians and researchers after its first description in 1978. Many consensuses and guidelines have been issued over the years, as gastroenterologists did not reach an agreement on EoE definition, especially regarding the controversial responsiveness to proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy. Of note, recent evidence suggests that the incidence and prevalence of EoE have been increasing through the years: many risk factors have been advocated as possible reasons for this, although further studies are needed. In this brief review, we will first cover the history of EoE in the literature, with a focus on its varying definition throughout the years. Then, we will discuss EoE epidemiology, emphasizing potential risk factors explaining its increasing incidence and prevalence. Last, we will deal with the quality of life of adult and pediatric patients with EoE.

Abstract Introduction: This review aims to investigate the gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) as one of the important concerns for both surgeons and patients after one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB).
Method: PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane were reviewed by the end of the 2021 with keywords relating to GERD, OAGB, and their equivalents. Data regarding OAGB, number of patients with GERD, treatment for GERD, endoscopy findings, the interval between GERD and OAGB were retrieved by two independent investigators. The primary effect/effect size measure was prevalence.
Results: 40 studies examining 17,299 patients were included revealing that 2% of patients experience GERD following OAGB. Reflux after revisional OAGB is six times higher than primary OAGB. Despite being unclear, medical and surgical treatments for GERD after OAGB were used in 60% and 41% of patients with estimated success rate of 85% and 100%, respectively.
Conclusion: Based on how GERD was identified after OAGB, its rate ranged from 0 to 55%; the pooled rate of 2% is near to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. GERD symptoms can be mild to be tolerated without medical treatment, moderate that respond to acid-reducing agents, or severe enough that are categorized as interactable and would need a surgical intervention.

Abstract Differential somatic cell count (DSCC), the percentage of somatic cell count (SCC) due to polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) and lymphocytes (LYMs), is a promising effective diagnostic marker for dairy animals with infected mammary glands. Well-explored in dairy cows, DSCC is also potentially valid in sheep, where clinical and subclinical mastitis outbreaks are among the principal causes of culling. We pioneered the application of DSCC in dairy ewes by applying receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis to define the most accurate thresholds to facilitate early discrimination of sheep with potential intramammary infection (IMI) from healthy animals. We tested four predefined SCC cut-offs established in previous research. Specifically, we applied SCC cut-offs of 265 × 10

Abstract Cancers of unknown primary (CUPs) are a heterogeneous group of tumors characterized by a difficult diagnosis. The primitive tumor remains unknown, whereas metastases are the most common manifestation. Occult male breast cancers are very rare types of CUPs. The present study describes the case of a 64-year-old man affected by a CUP of presumed mammary origin. The aim of the article and the present review was to focus on their management. To the best of our knowledge, only thirteen cases have been reported in the literature. Because no specific guidelines are available, various approaches have been applied, influencing the treatment and the prognosis of patients with CUP.
