Abstract Waveform digitization at sampling rates up to several giga-samples per second is one of the approaches to achieve high-precision time measurements. In recent years, achieving high precision at lower sampling rates has emerged as a significant research topic. In this article, we focus on time measurement electronics, in which the bandpass sampling method is applied to obtain high precision at a sampling rate of roughly 100 MSps. An analog front-end circuit is designed, in which the input pulse signal is bandpass-filtered and amplified before sampling. A pipelined real-time time extraction algorithm is designed using the techniques of interpolation and cross correlation. A 1024-point fast Fourier transform algorithm is adopted to implement the cross correlation operation. Four time measurement channels are implemented in a mid-range field-programmable gate array, and the measurement rate of 116 kHz is achieved. Tests are conducted to evaluate the performance of the timing system. The typical RMS precision is better than 0.4 ps.

Abstract The electroencephalogram (EEG) signal is the key signal carrier of the brain-computer interface (BCI) system. The EEG data collected by the whole-brain electrode arrangement is conducive to obtaining higher information representation. Personalized electrode layout, while ensuring the accuracy of EEG signal decoding, can also shorten the calibration time of BCI and has become an important research direction. This paper reviews the EEG signal channel selection methods in recent years, conducts a comparative analysis of the combined effects of different channel selection methods and different classification algorithms, obtains the commonly used channel combinations in motor imagery, P300 and other paradigms in BCI, and explains the application scenarios of the channel selection method in different paradigms are discussed, in order to provide stronger support for a more accurate and portable BCI system.

Abstract Aims: This study explores the link between Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients.
Methods: Involving 257 elderly T2DM patients, the study utilized propensity score matching to balance age, sex, and diabetes duration. VDD was defined as serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels below 20 ng/ml. Large nerve fiber lesions were evaluated by electromyogram, while small nerve fiber lesions were assessed by measuring skin conductance.
Results: DPN patients had notably lower serum 25(OH)D levels than non-DPN patients [15.05 vs. 18.4 ng/ml, P = 0.018]. VDD was identified as an independent risk factor for DPN (odds ratio = 2.488, P = 0.008) in multivariate logistic regression analysis. Spearman's correlation showed negative correlations between serum 25(OH)D levels and specific nerve latencies, and positive correlations with specific nerve velocities and amplitudes. The VDD group exhibited longer median sensory nerve latencies and motor evoked potential latencies compared to the vitamin D-sufficient group. Further, VDD is associated with the prolongation of the median motor nerve latency (odds ratio = 1.362, P = 0.038).
Conclusions: VDD is independently associated with a higher risk of DPN. VDD may promote the development of DPN by affecting large nerve fibers.

Abstract Purpose: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a significant contributor to neonatal mortality. This study aimed to investigate the role of high levels of miR-375-3p in breast milk in the development of NEC and elucidate its mechanism.
Methods: Differential expression of miR-375-3p in the intestines of breast-fed and formula-fed mice was confirmed using real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). NEC mice models were established, and intestinal injury was assessed using HE staining. RT-PCR and Western blot were conducted to examine the expression of miR-375-3p, tyrosine 3-monooxygenase/tryptophan 5-monooxygenase activation protein β (YWHAB), as well as the inflammatory in IEC-6 cells, and intestinal tissues obtained from NEC mice and patients. Flow cytometry and cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) were employed to elucidate the impact of miR-375-3p and YWHAB on cell apoptosis and proliferation.
Results: Breastfeeding increases miR-375-3p expression in the intestines. The expression of miR-375-3p in NEC intestinal tissues exhibited a significant decrease compared to the healthy group. Additionally, the expression of interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-10 (IL-10), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) was higher in the NEC group compared to the control group. Down-regulation of miR-375-3p inhibited IEC-6 cell proliferation, increased apoptosis, and elevated secretion of inflammatory factors. Bioinformatics revealed that YWHAB may be a target of miR-375-3p. RT-PCR and Western blot indicated a down-regulation of YWHAB expression in intestines of NEC patients and mice. Furthermore, YWHAB was found to be positively connected with miR-375-3p. Knockdown miR-375-3p down-regulated YWHAB expression in cells. Inhibition of YWHAB exhibited similar effects to miR-375-3p in IEC-6 cells. YWHAB plasmid partially reverse cellular functional impairment induced by miR-375-3p knockdown.
Conclusions: Breastfeeding elevated miR-375-3p expression in intestines in neonatal mice. MiR-375-3p leads to a decrease in apoptosis of intestinal epithelial cells, an increase in cell proliferation, and a concomitant reduction in the expression of inflammatory factors partly through targeting YWHAB.

Abstract The WNT-β-catenin signaling pathway has a major role in regulating cell proliferation and differentiation. Aberrant activation of the pathway contributes to various human cancer types. Because casein kinase CK1α-initiated phosphorylation of β-catenin is a key first step to restrain WNT signaling, effective restoration of CK1α activity represents an innovative strategy to combat WNT-driven cancer. A recent study in JBC reveals the anthelmintic pyrvinium directly binds to CK1α as an activator and also stabilizes CK1α protein, doubling against WNT-driven cancer activity.
