Implications for $K_S^0-K_L^0$ asymmetries and $D^0$-$\overline {D}^0$ mixing

Abstract An updated analysis of the two-body $D\to PP, V\!P$ and $VV$ decays within the framework of the topological diagram approach is performed. A global fit to the Cabibbo-favored (CF) modes in the $V\!P$ sector gives many solutions with similarly small local minima in $\chi^2$. The solution degeneracy is lifted once we use them to predict for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed (SCS) modes. Topological amplitudes are extracted for the $\eta-\eta'$ mixing angles $\phi=40.4^\circ$ and $43.5^\circ$. The $K_S^0-K_L^0$ asymmetries in $D\to K_{S,L}^0M$ decays denoted by $R(D,M)$ are studied. While the predicted $R(D^0,P)$ for $P=\pi^0, \eta$ and $\eta'$ agree with experiment, the calculated $R(D^+,\pi^+)$, $R(D_s^+, K^+)$, $R(D^0,\omega)$ and $R(D^0,\phi)$ deviate from the data. We conjecture that the relative phase between the topological amplitudes $(C+A)$ and $(T+C)$ should be slightly smaller than $90^\circ$ in order to explain the first two discrepancies and that additional singlet contributions due to the SU(3)-singlet nature of $\omega$ and $\phi$ are needed to account for the last two. For doubly Cabibbo-suppressed (DCS) $D\to V\!P$ decays, their topological amplitudes (double-primed) cannot be all the same as the corresponding ones in the CF modes. The assumption of $E_{V,P}''=E_{V,P}$ for the $W$-exchange amplitude leads to some inconsistencies with the experiment. Through the measured relative phases between CF and DCS channels, the relations of $E_{V,P}''$ with $E_{V,P}$ are determined. Long-distance contributions to the $D^0$-$\overline {D}^0$ mixing parameter $y$ are evaluated in the exclusive approach. In particular, we focus on $D\to PP$ and $V\!P$ decays where $y$ can be reliably estimated. We conclude that $y_{_{P\!P}}\sim (0.110\pm 0.011)\%$ and the lower bound on $y_{_{V\!P}}$ is $(0.220\pm 0.071)\%$.

Abstract Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease whose early onset correlates with dysregulated citrullination, a process catalyzed by peptidylarginine deiminase isoform 4 (PADI-4). Here, we report that PADI-4 is a novel target of vitamin B12, a water-soluble vitamin that serves as a cofactor in DNA synthesis and the metabolism of fatty and amino acids. Vitamin B12 preferentially inhibited PADI-4 over PADI-2 with comparable inhibitory activity to the reference compound Cl-amidine in enzymatic inhibition assays, and reduced total cellular citrullination levels including that of histone H3 citrullination mediated by PADI-4. We also demonstrated that hydroxocobalamin, a manufactured form of vitamin B12, significantly ameliorated the severity of collagen type II antibody induced arthritis (CAIA) in mice and diminished gene expression of the rheumatoid inflammatory factors and cytokines IL17A, TNFα, IL-6, COX-II and ANXA2, as well PADI-4. Therefore, the use of vitamin B12 to treat rheumatoid arthritis merits further study.

Abstract Aqueous lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have received increasing attention as a promising solution for stationary energy storage systems due to their low environmental impact, non-flammability and low cost. Despite recent progress in electrolyte development and cathode manufacturing, the lack of anode materials with high specific capacity presents difficult challenges for a wide range of applications. In this study, we propose a novel synthetic strategy to fabricate a pseudocapacitive V

Abstract The soil pH, water content, nutrients, and microbial community composition and diversity among one-year term (E1), short-term (E4), and long-term (E10) enclosures were analyzed for understanding the response of soil bacterial and fungal communities to long-term enclosure in degraded patches of alpine meadow in the source zone of the Yellow River, through determining the soil physicochemical properties and microbial diversity using high-throughput sequencing technology. The results showed that the E1 enclosure significantly decreased soil pH, whereas long-term and short-term enclosures increased soil pH. The long-term enclosure could significantly increase soil water content and total nitrogen content, and the short-term enclosure could significantly increase available phosphorus content. The long-term enclosure could significantly increase the bacterial Proteobacteria. The short-term enclosure could significantly increase the abundance of the bacteria Acidobacteriota. However, the abundance of the fungus Basidiomycota decreased in both long-term and short-term enclosures. With the extension of enclosure years, the Chao1 index and Shannon diversity index of bacteria showed an increasing trend, but there was no significant difference between long-term and short-term enclosures. The Chao1 index of fungi gradually increased, and the Shannon diversity index first increased and then decreased, but there was no significant difference between long-term and short-term enclosures. Redundancy analysis indicated that enclosure altered microbial community composition and structure mainly by changing soil pH and water content. Therefore, the E4 short-term enclosure could significantly improve the soil physicochemical properties and microbial diversity at the degraded patches of alpine meadow. The long-term enclosure is not necessary and will lead to the waste of grassland resources, reduction in biodiversity, and restriction of wildlife activities.

Abstract The discovery of the topological transition in twisted bilayer (tBL) materials has attracted considerable attention in nano-optics. In the analogue of acoustics, however, no such topological transition has been found due to the inherent nondirectional scalar property of acoustic pressure. In this work, by using a theory-based nonlocal anisotropic design, the in-plane acoustic pressure is transformed into a spatially distributed vector field using twisted multilayer metasurfaces. So-called "acoustic magic angle"-related acoustic phenomena occur, such as nonlocal polariton hybridization and the topological Lifshitz transition. The dispersion becomes flat at the acoustic magic angle, enabling polarized excitations to propagate in a single direction. Moreover, the acoustic topological transition (from hyperbolic to elliptic dispersion) is experimentally observed for the first time as the twist angle continuously changes. This unique characteristic facilitates low-loss tunable polariton hybridization at the subwavelength scale. A twisted trilayer acoustic metasurface is also experimentally demonstrated, and more possibilities for manipulating acoustic waves are found. These discoveries not only enrich the concepts of moiré physics and topological acoustics but also provide a complete framework of theory and methodologies for explaining the phenomena that are observed.

Abstract Background: Subretinal injection (SRI) has become an important surgical method for treating vitreoretinal diseases. Nevertheless, the optimisation of bleb formation in SRI, for the attainment of desired therapeutic outcomes, still requires further investigation.
Methods: This study analysed the influence of surgical parameters on SRI using a robotic setup. The surgical procedure was automated using visual guidance. A predictive model for bleb formation was established through regression analysis. To validate the model, we compared the clinical data's target area with the simulated SRI's actual area using parameters determined by the predictive model.
Results: The insertion angle dominated the eccentricity and area of the bleb. The injection speed dominated the axial angle. Automated SRI increased success rate and produced predictable outcomes.
Conclusions: We could provide accurate SRI on phantom models by adjusting surgical parameters based on the patient's clinical information. Automatic robot-assisted SRI is a promising surgical technique with highly predictable results.

Abstract Abstract The quantized bulk quadrupole moment has so far revealed a non-trivial boundary state with lower-dimensional topological edge states and in-gap zero-dimensional corner modes. In contrast to photonic implementations, state-of-the-art strategies for topological thermal metamaterials struggle to achieve such higher-order hierarchical features. This is due to the absence of quantized bulk quadrupole moments in thermal diffusion fundamentally prohibiting possible band topology expansions. Here, we report a recipe for generating quantized bulk quadrupole moments in fluid heat transport and observe the quadrupole topological phases in non-Hermitian thermal systems. Our experiments show that both the real- and imaginary-valued bands exhibit the hierarchical features of bulk, gapped edge and in-gap corner states—in stark contrast to the higher-order states observed only on real-valued bands in classical wave fields. Our findings open up unique possibilities for diffusive metamaterial engineering and establish a playground for multipolar topological physics.
