Abstract Plants are sessile; they cannot move to avoid adverse environmental conditions. Pathogenesis-related (PR) proteins are induced in the plant by imposing different biotic stresses such as pathogens and abiotic stresses like drought, cold, salinity, heavy metal etc. There are currently nineteen families of PR proteins (PR-1 to PR-19), with 17 confirmed and two putative PR families identified and classified based on their biochemical nature. PR proteins promote innate resistance in plants by disintegrating fungal cell walls, permeabilizing membranes, suppressing transcription, and inactivating ribosomes. Previous research has shown that they play an important role in determining resistance to phytopathogens, making them a promising candidate for developing disease-resistant crop varieties. Plant genetic engineering could be used to create disease-resistant transgenic crops by utilizing several PR genes (thaumatin, osmotin-like proteins, chitinases, glucanases, defensins, thionins, oxalate oxidase, oxalate oxidase-like proteins/germin-like proteins, and LTPs). In this review, we attempt to demonstrate the types and biochemical nature of various PR proteins, as well as their insight mechanism for pathogen resistance and the use of PR proteins for disease-tolerant plants developed at a low cost.

Abstract The introduction of combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) has greatly improved the quality of life of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1)-infected individuals. Nonetheless, the ever-present desire to seek out a full remedy for HIV-1 infections makes the discovery of novel antiviral medication compelling. Owing to this, a new late-stage inhibitor, Lenacapavir/Sunlenca, an HIV multi-phase suppressor, was clinically authorized in 2022. Besides unveiling cutting-edge antivirals inhibiting late-stage proteins or processes, newer therapeutics targeting host restriction factors hold promise for the curative care of HIV-1 infections. Notwithstanding, bone marrow stromal antigen 2 (BST2)/Tetherin/CD317/HM1.24, which entraps progeny virions is an appealing HIV-1 therapeutic candidate. In this study, a novel drug screening system was established, using the Jurkat/Vpr-HiBiT T cells, to identify drugs that could obstruct HIV-1 release; the candidate compounds were selected from the Ono Pharmaceutical compound library. Jurkat T cells expressing Vpr-HiBiT were infected with NL4-3, and the amount of virus release was quantified indirectly by the amount of Vpr-HiBiT incorporated into the progeny virions. Subsequently, the candidate compounds that suppressed viral release were used to synthesize the heterocyclic compound, HT-7, which reduces HIV-1 release with less cellular toxicity. Notably, HT-7 increased cell surface BST2 coupled with HIV-1 release reduction in Jurkat cells but not Jurkat/KO-BST2 cells. Seemingly, HT-7 impeded simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) release. Concisely, these results suggest that the reduction in viral release, following HT-7 treatment, resulted from the modulation of cell surface expression of BST2 by HT-7.

Abstract This paper presents the design of a Built-in-self-Test (BIST) implemented Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) cryptoprocessor Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). AES has been proved as the strongest symmetric encryption algorithm declared by USA Govt. and it outperforms all other existing cryptographic algorithms. Its hardware implementation offers much higher speed and physical security than that of its software implementation. Due to this reason, a number of AES cryptoprocessor ASIC have been presented in the literature, but the problem of testability in the complex AES chip is not addressed yet. This research introduces a solution to the problem for the AES cryptoprocessor ASIC implementing mixed-mode BIST technique, a hybrid of pseudo-random and deterministic techniques. The BIST implemented ASIC is designed using IEEE industry standard Hardware Description Language(HDL). It has been simulated using Electronic Design Automation (EDA)tools for verification and validation using the input-output data from the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) of the USA Govt. The simulation results show that the design is working as per desired functionalities in different modes of operation of the ASIC. The current research is compared with those of other researchers, and it shows that it is unique in terms of BIST implementation into the ASIC chip.

Abstract In the competitive market of apparel manufacturing, lead time for production plays a significant role in the delivery of the produces impacting the entire supply chain. Nowadays, composite manufacturers are leaning towards delivering within the shortest possible time to retain customers in this competitive market. To meet this challenge, proper production planning either using the correct method or the appropriate tools is a prerequisite condition; otherwise, mills will inevitably suffer losses or fail to drain out the maximum possible profit from the produces and may also suffer from promoting more expenses rather than yielding revenues. This study deals with the development of a linear programming model in order to reduce the complexity of the scheduling problem of a Composite Textile Industry in pursuit of maximizing profit or minimizing production costs. The model is developed considering process segmentation, utilization of machines and other resources, with respect to lead time. Four different components of the lead time are derived and an excel solver is used in solving the model.

Abstract Objectives: Human tuberculosis (TB) remains an important cause of death globally. Bangladesh is one of the most affected countries. We aimed to investigate the impact of pulmonary TB on pro- and anticoagulant mechanisms.
Methods: This prospective study was conducted in Chittagong, Bangladesh. We performed an in-depth analysis of coagulation activation and inhibition in plasma obtained from 64 patients with primary lung TB and 11 patients with recurrent lung TB and compared these with 37 healthy controls. Additionally, in nine patients coagulation activation was studied in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) harvested from the site of infection and compared with BALF from a contralateral unaffected lung subsegment.
Results: Relative to uninfected controls, primary and recurrent TB were associated with a systemic net procoagulant state, as indicated by enhanced activation of coagulation (elevated plasma levels of thrombin-antithrombin complexes, D-dimer and fibrinogen) together with impaired anticoagulant mechanisms (reduced plasma levels of antithrombin, protein C activity, free protein S, and protein C inhibitor). Activation of coagulation did not correlate with plasma concentrations of established TB biomarkers. Coagulation activation could not be detected at the primary site of infection in a subset of TB patients.
Conclusions: Pulmonary TB is associated with a systemic hypercoagulable state.
