Abstract Background: Oral health is linked to physical and mental well-being. Oral disease is common among poor and socioeconomically disadvantaged people in developing and industrialized countries
Objectives: This study assessed the oral health disease burden among people with multimorbidity in marginalized populations.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted across 16 locations in the slums of Karachi, Pakistan, to assess oral health disease problems among adults aged 18 to 70 with comorbidity or multimorbidity. The questionnaire covered the socioethnic, demographic, and disease status of people with oral health status. Data analyses were performed using SAS version 9.4.
Results: Of the 16 designated slum locations, 870 individuals were considered for oral health screening. Gingivitis was highly prevalent, 29% among slum dwellers with multimorbidity of diabetes, hepatitis, and hypertension. Dandasa was widely used as a tooth-cleansing agent in 35% of the study population. By contrast, 45.4% of people showed unsatisfactory oral hygiene conditions. Pathan ethnicity showed the highest prevalence (i.e., 29.8% of dental problems with disease multimorbidity in 26.8% of Baldia Town residents of Karachi). Of the 870 individuals, the highest frequency of dental problems was found in the age group of 18-38 years (28-42.9%) and among female participants (53.8%).
Conclusion: There is an urgent need for the global enhancement of public health programs, specifically focusing on implementing effective strategies to prevent oral illnesses, promote oral health, and address other chronic diseases in basic healthcare settings. Enhancing oral health poses significant difficulties, especially in less developed nations.

Abstract Excessive accumulation of acylcarnitines (ACs), often caused by metabolic disorders, has been associated with obesity, arrhythmias, cardiac ischemia, insulin resistance, etc. Mechanisms whereby elevated ACs might contribute to pathophysiological effects remain largely unexplored. We have aimed to gain insight into AC interactions with the mitochondrial inner membrane. To model its outer leaflet, Langmuir monolayers and cushioned supported bilayers were employed. Their interactions with ACs were monitored with epifluorescence microscopy, which revealed a local leaflet expansion upon exposure to elevated concentrations of a long-chain AC, plausibly caused by its insertion. To assess the AC insertion parameters, constant-pressure insertion assays were performed. A value of 21 ± 3 Å

Abstract Non-fullerene-based chromophores with end-capped acceptor modification used in organic solar cells (OSCs) have proven to offer improved performance. Therefore, eight unique benzothiophene-based molecules (D2-D9) were designed by the end-capped acceptor manipulation of a reference molecule (R1). Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations at the B3LYP level were performed to investigate various parameters such as the optical properties, frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs), transition density matrix (TDM), binding energy, density of states (DOS), open-circuit voltage (

Abstract Streeter's dysplasia is a rare disorder of congenital constricting bands, occurring in 1-10 000 birth, with no sex predilection. In severe cases, it is associated with autoamputation of distal extremities such as fingers and toes. Recent advances have made it possible, in developed countries, to recognise this condition in the prenatal period and to initiate prompt intrauterine management, however, these, being uncommon procedures, need technical advances and experienced hands. In developing countries, recognition of the condition with timely management of primary and associated abnormalities required. We present a case of a 4-month-old child with type IV Streeter's dysplasia associated with right flexible clubfoot, who underwent successful two-stage release of symptomatic constricting bands from bilateral legs.

Abstract This study compares patient satisfaction with primary health care services and identifies factors associated with patient satisfaction in two health districts in Egypt where a project for upgrading primary health care services had been running for three years. An exit interview was conducted for 1108 patients using a structured questionnaire. The results revealed that most clients using primary health care services were females. Patient satisfaction was high for accessibility, waiting area conditions and performance of doctors and nurses. The main complaints centred on the availability of prescribed drugs and laboratory investigations. Additionally, level of privacy in the consultation room was described as unsatisfactory by 33% of patients. There was no association between overall patient satisfaction and age, gender, education level or type of service received.

Abstract To report the successful coil embolization of a rare gluteal artery aneurysm and review therapeutic options for this rare condition. We report a case of pseudo-aneurysm of superior gluteal artery initially diagnosed as gluteal abscess. They can be diagnosed by Doppler ultrasound, computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. Mainstay of the diagnosis is by angiography and the preferred management with good clinical results is with angiographic embolization. This report reviews the literature and addresses the incidence, aetiology, and treatment of gluteal artery aneurysms.

Abstract Objective: to determine the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women in rural areas of Belbis district, Sharkia Governorate, Egypt, and to assess the effect of iron supplementation and nutritional educational program on the level of hemoglobin in blood.
Design: A cross-sectional study was conducted followed by intervention prospective study.
Subjects: Women attended the antenatal clinics in two primary health care units of Belbis district through December 2000, which amount to 100 women 50 in each primary health care unit. Data was collected as regard to their age, parity, educational level and occupation. All participating women were subjected to hemoglobin analysis during the first time, after one month and two months. Women with hemoglobin level less than 11 gm/dl were considered anemic.
Statistical analysis: Chi-square and "t" tests (paired and unpaired) were applied to test the relationships among study variables.
Results: The prevalence of anemia among pregnant women at the first time booking was 55%. After the intervention nutrition education program and iron supplementation the prevalence declined after three months down to 32%. While the prevalence after the same period for pregnant women in the control group (non intervention group) was 46%. Both parity and educational level affected significantly the prevalence of anemia only among the intervention group. This study suggests that anemia is still high among pregnant women and integrated intervention programs should be considered prior to conception.
