Abstract In the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected population, especially HIV with concomitant tuberculosis (TB) or Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL), numerous risk factors have been reported in recent years. Among them, the decreased CD4+ T cell count was recognized as the common risk factor. We report a case of a patient with HIV and TB and HL co-occurrence, in which patient’s CD4+ T cell count was inconsistent with disease. A 58-year-old male presented with fever and shortness of breath that persisted for 2 months. The patient had a 4-year history of HIV infection and underwent antiretroviral therapy (ART) effectively. After blood test, computed tomography, bone biopsy, and lymphoma biopsy, the patient was diagnosed with skeletal TB and HL, underwent TB treatment and received ART, and underwent four cycles of chemotherapy. CD4+ T cell count was not decreased before diagnosed with TB/HL and increased in this case after the fourth cycle of chemotherapy. We collected and analyzed CD4+ T cell counts in our case and reviewed relevant literature. It is suggested that CD4+ T cell count may be insufficient to predict the risk of HIV-related disease, especially lymphoproliferative disorders.

Abstract Objective: Antinuclear antibody (ANA)-positive immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) patients have an unsatisfactory prognosis due to the more severe conditions of these patients and poor response to first-line glucocorticoids (GCs). The current study intended to compare the efficacy and safety of AZA plus prednisone and prednisone alone as first-line treatment in ANA-positive ITP patients.
Methods: Fifteen ANA-positive ITP patients receiving AZA plus prednisone (AZA + GC group) and eighteen ANA-positive ITP patients receiving prednisone alone (GC group) as first-line treatment were retrospectively enrolled.
Results: The complete response (CR) rate (60.0% versus 22.2%) (
Conclusion: First-line AZA plus prednisone realizes a better hematological response and relapse-free duration with acceptable adverse events compared to prednisone alone in ANA-positive ITP patients.

Abstract The chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand (CXCL) family plays an important role in inflammation. In order to understand the role of CXC chemokine family in carcinogenesis, this study explored a group of early gastric cancer (GC) patients, and assessed the level of CXC chemokine ligand (CXCL) in blood samples of patients representing systemic circulation and tumor microenvironment, detected the expression of CXC chemokine receptor (CXCR) in tumor tissues, and measured tumor infiltrating immune cell subsets. 69 patients with GC were included in a single center prospective study and were followed up for 6 years. The level of CXCL1-14 was determined by ELISA and the concentration gradient of chemokine was calculated. Western blot was used to detect the expression of CXCR1, CXCR2, CXCR3, and CXCR4 in tumor tissue. CXCL1-14 expression was inhibited by siRNA in HGC27 cells and then the migration ability of HGC27 cells was detected by cell scratch test. The results of this study showed that the chemokine concentrations of CXCL1, CXCL2, CXCL5, CXCL8, CXCL11, and CXCL13 in peripheral blood and tumor drainage blood of patients without recurrence after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment. The concentrations of CXCL1, CXCL2, CXCL4, CXCL5, CXCL7, CXCL8, CXCL9, CXCL10, CXCL12, CXCL13, and CXCL14 in peripheral blood and tumor drainage blood were significantly higher than those in patients without recurrence. Patients with low expression of CXCR1 and CXCR3 had lower AFP (alpha fetoprotein), smaller tumor volume, and lower TNM tumor stage. Patients with lower expression of CXCR2 and CXCR4 had higher AFP (alpha fetoprotein) level, larger tumor volume, and higher TNM tumor stage. After down-regulation of CXCLs expression, the migration ability of most cell lines was significantly inhibited. This study suggests that CXCL chemokine family plays an important role in the pathogenesis of GC and can be used as a marker for the development of GC.

Abstract High aspect ratio (HAR) through-silicon vias (TSVs) are in urgent need to achieve smaller keep-out zones (KOZs) and higher integration density for the miniaturization of high-performance three-dimensional (3D) integration of integrated circuits (IC), micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), and other devices. In this study, HAR TSVs with a diameter of 11 μm and an aspect ratio of 10:1 are successfully fabricated in a low-cost process flow. Conformal polyimide (PI) liners are deposited using a vacuum-assisted spin coating technique, and the effects of spin coating time and speed on the deposition results are discussed. Then, continuous Cu seed layers are fabricated by sequential sputtering and ultrasound-assisted electroless plating. Additionally, void-free and seamless Cu conductors are formed by electroplating. Moreover, a semi-additive method is used to fabricate the redistribution layers (RDLs) on the insulating layers of photosensitive PI (PSPI). Notably, a plasma bombardment process is introduced to remove residual PSPI in the contact windows between RDLs and central pillars. Results show that the resistance of a single TSV from a daisy chain of 144 TSVs with density of 2000/mm

Abstract Background: BCL2-interacting protein 3 (BNIP3) expression varies among cancers, and its role in myeloma cells remains unknown. We investigated the role of
Methods: A BNIP3-overexpressing plasmid was transfected into the MM.1S and RPMI8226 myeloma cell lines. Transfected cell apoptosis rate and mitochondrial function were determined via flow cytometry and western blotting. We verified the signaling pathway underlying myeloma cell sensitivity to bortezomib (BTZ).
Results: Cell lines carrying the BNIP3-overexpressing plasmid exhibited higher rates of apoptosis and expression of Bax and Cleaved caspase 3 protein than the vector group, and less Bcl-2 protein expression than the control cells. Relative to the vector group, BNIP3-overexpressing strains contained more reactive oxygen species (ROS) and exhibited mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) upregulation and mitofusin-1 (Mfn1) downregulation. BTZ supplementation increased BNIP3 expression. Relative to the BNIP3-OE group, the BNIP3-OE BTZ-treated group exhibited upregulated Bax and Cleaved caspase 3 protein expression, downregulated Bcl-2 protein expression, higher apoptosis rates, ROS levels, MMP, and Drp1 expression, and lower Mfn1 expression. BTZ treatment induced p38 MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) signaling pathway activation in BNIP3-OE cells. Upon adding N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and the p38 MAPK inhibitor SB203580, the affected index levels returned to the baseline.
Conclusions: BNIP3 overexpression induced apoptosis in myeloma cells and increased myeloma cell sensitivity to BTZ. These effects may be mediated by the ROS/p38 MAPK signaling pathway.

Abstract Characterizing the waxy maize starch nanoparticles (SNPs) with different crystal types (B- and A-type) under ultra-high pressure (UHP) treatment is important in understanding the processes underpinning starch and starchy food processing. Here, The changes of structural characteristics of SNPs with B- and A-type under UHP treatment were investigated. Compared with B-type nanoparticles, the surface morphology of the A-type nanoparticles was less affected, the gelatinization temperatures (Tₒ, Tₚ, Tc) were higher, the enthalpy (∆H) showed a faster reduction, the reduction rate in parameters related to the long-range ordered structure (relative crystallinity, fractal dimension) was lower. This indicated B-type SNPs were more prone to helix-helix dissociation while the double helices from A-type SNPs were inclined to unwind. In general, the pressure resistance of B- and A-type SNPs showed significant difference, which was distinguished from those for native B- and A-type starches.
