Abstract Traumatic basal ganglia haemorrhage is rarely seen in clinical practice. Bilateral basal ganglia hematoma without any other cerebral lesions due to trauma is extremely uncommon and has been reported only in a few cases. Although the mechanisms of this condition are unclear, haemorrhagic contusions are thought to arise as a consequence of a shearing strain on cranial blood vessels due to high-velocity forces at the time of the injury. Here we describe a 63-year-old female patient with an isolated bilateral, large, basal ganglia haemorrhage secondary to a road traffic accident. The patient was promptly diagnosed and conservatively treated and had fully recovered after two months.

Abstract Abstract Background Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is the most common and bearable complication of herpes zoster (HZ). This pain may have negative impact on the patient's all aspects of daily life and health‐related quality of life (HRQOL). Despite numerous advances in treatment, many patients remain resistant to the current therapy options. It is the first time subcutaneous injection of methylprednisolone acetate and lidocaine has been used to treat refractory PHN. We report the results of this treatment evaluating pain relief and HRQOL improvement in this disorder. Methods A total of 43 patients with refractory PHN was enrolled in the observational study. All patients received daily subcutaneous injection of methylprednisolone acetate and lidocaine for 10 consecutive days. The severity of pain was assessed by using Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and 36‐Item Short Form Survey (SF‐36) was applied to evaluate HRQOL. Assessment of the pain and HRQOL was carried out at baseline and posttreatment at 4 weeks as well as 6 and 12 months. Results At baseline, all patients experienced severe PHN with average VAS scores of 8.44 ± 0.85 (minimum 7; maximum 10). At 4 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months after treatment, the pain had significantly decreased (P < .001), and all subjects showed significant improvement in all eight domains of HRQOL. No major adverse events associated with the subcutaneous injection were observed. Conclusions Our results indicate that subcutaneous injection of methylprednisolone acetate and lidocaine can be an effective and safe treatment for PHN.

Abstract Aluminum toxicity is considered as one of the main causes of low yield in rice. In this study, 50 traditional varieties were screened under Al toxicity stress of 30 ppm Al in Yoshida solution. Kien Giang Lon, Nep Mong Chim, Nang Me, Nang Thom Cho Dao, Nhen Thom. AS996 in the rice gene pool of CLRRI exhibited good donor for Al toxicity tolerance. Two, BC2F2 populations from the cross of OMCS 2000/Kien Giang Lon and OM1490/AS996 were used for fine mapping. The putative QTLs related to the relative root length (RRL) closely linked to RM 315 and RM 210 located in chromosome 1 and 9, respectively. Three QTLs namely qRRL-1, qRRL-9a, qRRL-9b, which were detected on chromosome 1 and choromosone 9 explained the phenotypic variation of 11,85% - 13,8% in OMCS 2000/Kien Giang Lon.
