Abstract Artificial ground motions, particularly conditional simulated artificial ground motions, are an essential complement to actual earthquake records when designing large-span structures, while considering the spatially varying properties of ground motions. Most existing methods, both conditional and unconditional forms, consider only the simulated ground motion complying with the power spectral densities and the coherence between the spectra of actual ground motions. In this study, the SMART 1 array’s records are regarded as conditional simulated ground motions from its central station. Their periodograms’ amplitude variation processes with the increased separation distance between two locations are studied. The analysis shows that the Gaussian model underestimates the periodograms’ amplitude variation, which can cause significant relative motions between structural supports and is detrimental to large-span structures. A random local power coefficient (LPC) is involved in modifying the Gaussian method. The LPC exhibits a noncentral Wishart distribution. Its statistical model as a function of the separation distance is derived. The LPC preserves the random field’s power spectral density and the spectral coherence relationships of the conventional Gaussian model. Simultaneously, the simulated random field’s periodogram variation complies with that of the SMART1 records. Monte Carlo simulations were conducted in the analysis and validated the modified Gaussian method.

Abstract Background: Lower testosterone levels in men have been consistently associated with metabolic abnormalities, particularly obesity. This study aims to investigate the relationship between testosterone and obesity by analyzing the correlation between testosterone levels and body fat percentage using data from the NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) database.
Methods: The study included a total of 5959 participants from the NHANES 2011-2016. Multivariable linear regression models were used to assess the association between testosterone levels and body composition parameters, including total percent fat (TPF), android percent fat (APF), gynoid percent fat (GPF), android to gynoid ratio (A/G), and lean mass percent (LMP). Subgroup analyses stratified by sex were conducted using multivariable linear regression. To account for potential non-linear relationships, fitted smoothing curves and generalized additive models were utilized. A separate analysis of participants with a BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 was conducted to validate the conclusions.
Result: Among males, testosterone levels showed a significant negative correlation with TPF (β = -11.97, P <0.0001), APF (β = -9.36, P<0.0001), GPF (β = -10.29, P <0.0001), and A/G (β = -320.93, P<0.0001), while a positive correlation was observed between LMP and testosterone levels (β = 12.62, P<0.0001). In females, a contrasting pattern emerged in the relationship between testosterone and body fat, but no significant correlation was found between testosterone and body composition in obese women.
Conclusions: The findings of this study support a negative association between body fat and testosterone levels in males.

Abstract Persistent HPV infections may cause cervical and vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN and VaIN). Traditional methods might destroy the structure and function of the cervix. 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) is a non-invasive targeted therapy. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ALA-PDT for CIN and VaIN and the clearance of HPV. A retrospective study of 303 patients who confirmed CIN or VaIN and received ALA-PDT was conducted. All the patients were followed up at six and twelve months after treatment and then annually thereafter. The effect was evaluated through HPV genotyping, a cytology test, and colposcopy-directed biopsy if necessary. After ALA-PDT, the remission rates for CIN 2, CIN 3, VaIN 2, and VaIN 3 were 90.6%, 88.5%, 87.3%, and 77.8%. For CIN 1, the remission rate at the six-month follow-up was 93.1%. The total HPV clearance rates were 72.5% at the six-month follow-up and 85.7% at the 12-month follow-up. The most common adverse event was vaginal discharge. No severe adverse effect was observed. ALA-PDT is an effective and safe treatment for all grades of CIN and VaIN and is helpful in clearing HPV with minimal side effects. This treatment may not influence fertility and delivery.

Abstract Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are pluripotent stem cells with self-renewal, multi-directional differentiation and immunoregulatory capabilities. More and more studies have demonstrated the beneficial role of MSCs in the treatment of immune disorders. However, there is heterogeneity in the immunoregulatory capacity of MSCs obtained in vivo or cultured in vitro, and the immunoregulatory capacity of MSCs is also regulated by the microenvironment. This review provides an overview of the mechanisms of the immunosuppressive and immune supportive abilities of MSCs, introduces recent studies on the immunoregulatory mechanisms of MSCs and the plasticity hypothesis of their immunoregulatory abilities, and discusses strategies to enhance the immunoregulatory abilities of MSCs in the cell production stage. This review aims to provide a reference for the clinical translational research of MSCs.

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to verify TCGA subtypes in endometrial clear cell carcinoma (ECCC) and determine their clinical and molecular characteristics.
Methods: We summarized and compared the clinical features of 28 clear cell carcinoma and 112 endometrioid carcinoma patients. Of the 28 ECCCs, 19 underwent TCGA classification, and other markers (ER, PR, ARID1A, ARIB1B, TAF1, and HER-2) were also detected by IHC, and outcomes were assessed.
Results: Compared to endometrioid carcinoma, ECCC had an older age of onset (median age, 64.5 years, range 31-81 years), higher rate of myometrial invasion (42.8% vs. 21.5% in endometrioid carcinoma), LVSI (33% vs. 16%), and more advanced FIGO stage. Among the ECCCs, LVSI was a poor prognostic factor. TCGA classification was performed for 19 ECCCs: two POLEmut cases (10.5%), three MMRd (15.8%), 11 p53wt (57.9%), and three p53abn (15.8%). Of the 19 ECCCs, six (31.6%) showed HER-2 positive expression, and eight (42.1%) had TAF1 expression loss. ECCCs possessed HER-2 and TAF1 expression had worse outcomes.
Conclusion: Our study summarized the clinical features of ECCC. The outcomes of patients with ECCC with TCGA subtypes differed from those of patients with endometrioid carcinoma. HER-2 and TAF1 may be new prognostic factors.

Abstract Coordinated evolution and mutual adaptation of soybean-rhizobium-soil (SRS) are crucial for soybean distribution, but the genetic mechanism involved had remained unclear. In a recent study, Li et al. identified a natural variant of the GmRj2/Rfg1 gene that affected the ability of soybean to adapt to distinct soil types by controlling soybean-rhizobium interaction, thus unravelling the mystery of SRS compatibility.

Abstract Objective. To investigate the prevalence of refractive errors and risk factors for myopia in primary school students in Saybag District of Urumqi. Methods. A total of 972 primary school students in two elementary schools in Saybag District were included in this study which was conducted from June 2019 to November 2019. Uncorrected visual acuity test and noncycloplegic autorefraction were performed, and their visual acuity was analyzed. Multivariate regression analysis was performed to predict risk factors for myopia. Results. Myopia was the most frequent refractive error among primary school students aged 7-11 in Sayibake District, Urumqi City, with a prevalence rate of 60.39%, and mainly mild myopia. The proportion of myopia increased with age, and the proportion of females suffering from myopia was higher than that of males, and the proportion of students from the Han ethnic group suffering from myopia was also higher than that of the other ethnic groups. The students mainly suffered from mild myopia, and the degree of myopia was related to age and gender, regardless of ethnicity. In addition, multivariate regression analysis showed that age and gender were the influencing factors of myopia occurrence and progression Conclusion. Our study results showed a significant prevalence of myopia in pupils aged 7-11 years in Saybag District of Urumqi is affected by gender and age and not by ethnicity.

Abstract The effect of multiple support excitation is an important issue in studying large-span structures. Researchers have shown that the damping related terms in the equation of motion can induce errors in the analysis. Wrongly modelling the damping matrix can induce false damping forces between the structure and the reference coordinates. In multiple support excitation problems, this error is increased when absolute coordinates are used. In this paper, this part of the error is defined as virtual damping error. The error caused by using Rayleigh damping instead of Modal damping is called damping truncation error. This study focuses on the virtual damping error and the damping truncation error that exist in the modeling methods widely used in multiple support excitation problems, namely, large mass method (LMM), relative motion method (RMM), and absolute displacement method (ADM). A new Rayleigh damping formula is proposed for LMM to prevent virtual damping error. A form of equation of motion derived from the converged LMM was proposed in the authors’ previous work. This equation of motion is proved in this paper to be equivalent to RMM when modal damping and the new Rayleigh damping formula are used. RMM is proved free from the virtual damping error. The influence of multiple support excitation effect on the damping formulating errors is studied by spectral analysis. One simplified spring-mass model and two bridge models are used for numerical simulation. The results from the numerical simulation testify to the conclusions from the spectral analysis.

Abstract While uniform sampling has been widely studied in the matrix completion literature, CUR sampling approximates a low-rank matrix via row and column samples. Unfortunately, both sampling models lack flexibility for various circumstances in real-world applications. In this work, we propose a novel and easy-to-implement sampling strategy, coined Cross-Concentrated Sampling (CCS). By bridging uniform sampling and CUR sampling, CCS provides extra flexibility that can potentially save sampling costs in applications. In addition, we also provide a sufficient condition for CCS-based matrix completion. Moreover, we propose a highly efficient non-convex algorithm, termed Iterative CUR Completion (ICURC), for the proposed CCS model. Numerical experiments verify the empirical advantages of CCS and ICURC against uniform sampling and its baseline algorithms, on both synthetic and real-world datasets.
