Abstract Trace elements associated with ambient air dust particles have been investigated to assess future non-cancer toxic risk in children and adults. To investigate the trace elements, samples were collected with Respirable Dust Sampler at various locations in Dhanbad, India, during post-monsoon 2016, winter 2017, and summer 2017. Monitoring locations were selected along the roadside with heavy traffic load (Shramik Chowk), moderate-to-low traffic load (Dhaiya Gate), and low traffic load with small-scale industries (Govindpur Tata Motors). Further, the health risk caused due to the exposure of the trace elements was determined with the help of hazard quotient and hazard index. The hazard index value of Pb for children due to multi-pathway exposure was found to be > 1 in winter 2017 at all monitoring locations and in summer 2017 at Shramik Chowk and Govindpur Tata Motors will cause future non-cancer toxic risk in children. The hazard index value of Pb for children due to multi-pathway exposure was found to be > 1 in winter 2017 at all monitoring locations. The same in summer 2017 at Shramik Chowk and Govindpur Tata Motors would pose future non-cancer toxic risk in children. For adults, the values of hazard index for the investigated trace elements suggest that it would not cause future non-cancer toxic risk in them. Thus, understanding the presence of trace elements in the ambient air around roadside areas and its health risks is of utmost importance in view of implications for protective measures.

Abstract The present study was undertaken to investigate particulate matter (PMs) (PM10, PM2.5 and PM1) mass and number concentration (0.265–10 μm) along a road network in the Jharia coalfields, Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India, using a GRIMM aerosol spectrometer during different weather conditions representing dry weather (DW) and wet weather (WW). The study area was divided into 9 locations representing mining and non-mining areas. The observed values were compared with applicable standards of India (NAAQS) and the World Health Organizations (WHO). Air quality was also determined using an Air Quality Index (AQI) as per new guidelines of the Central Pollution Control Board, India. A detailed comparison between the mining and non-mining areas for the two weather conditions is presented. The PM10 and PM2.5 mass concentrations were a maximum at Godhar (GDR) (mining area) (332; 151 μg/m3, respectively) and higher as compared to the NAAQS (100; 60 μg/m3), WHO (50; 25 μg/m3) and in the non-mining area (125; 42 μg/m3, respectively) during DW; they were reduced significantly because of precipitation by 46% and 18%, respectively, during WW. PM1 and PM1–2.5 were dominant during WW and PM2.5–10 during DW. PM number concentrations (≤ 2.5 μm) were observed almost 1.5–2.5 times lower during WW while compared to DW for all sites. The values of AQI values were significantly reduced during WW compared to DW. The study revealed that concentrations of PMs and AQI values were found lower during WW compared to DW due to light precipitation.

Abstract TKX-50 (dihydroxylammonium 5,5′-bistetrazolate-1,1′-dioxide) is a recent time invention by Klapotke et. al. in the field of high energy materials, and it outperforms all the existing materials by means of performance parameters. It is rising as potential energetic material due to favorable thermal insensitivity, low toxicity and safe handling. The decomposition temperature (Tₘₐₓ) values of precursors such as glyoxime (I), 1,2-dichloroglyoxime (II), 1,2-diazidoglyoxime (III), and bistetrazoledihydroxide (IV) and ending products TKX-50 (V) and ABTOX (VI) have been attempted to correlate with the results obtained from molecular electrostatic potentials and band gaps calculated from the difference of ionization potential and electron affinity. The molecular electrostatic potential values of azido attached -NO group of III are much less than that of hydro/chloro attached -NO group of I/II and that of tetrazole groups IV, V, and VI. The band gaps calculated from stability trend in the increasing order of III < II < I < IV < V < VI are well corroborated with stability trend drawn from experimentally determined decomposition temperatures. Further, employing conceptual density functional theory (DFT) molecular descriptors, band gap values were calculated via the difference of ionization potential and electron affinity to understand the thermal stability of TKX-50, ABTOX, and its precursors.

Abstract Bladder cancer is the sixth most common malignancy in the United States. Cisplatin combination regimens are first line therapy for patients with metastatic urothelial bladder cancer who are eligible candidates and no treatments have shown to improve outcome compared to chemotherapy for the past 20 years. Significant advances were made in past 2-3 years and the most significant was the introduction of checkpoints inhibitors in bladder cancer treatment. We present a patient diagnosed with metastatic urothelial carcinoma who progressed while on cisplatin/gemcitabine chemotherapy in the form of oligometastasis to the bone. He has achieved a durable complete response with atezolizumab.
