Abstract Intussusception is a process in which a segment of intestine invaginates into the adjoining intestinal lumen, causing bowel obstruction. It is a common paediatric surgery emergency, and it requires early diagnosis and treatment. Intussusception typically presents at between 6 and 36 months of age, and the male-to-female ratio is approximately 3 : 1. It is usually ileocolic, although other forms such as Ileo-ileal, jejuno-jejunal, jejuno-ileal, or colo-colic have also been described [1]. However, in adults the overall incidence of intussusception is around 2–3 cases per 1,000,000 of the general population annually, and it is usually secondary to an existing pathology [2, 3]. According to the literature, 30% of small bowel intussusceptions are caused by tumours, while 10% are idiopathic [4–6]. We herein report a case of a 30-year-old male with idiopathic transient small bowel intussusceptions.

Abstract Cases with rectal foreign bodies are no longer rare; however, epidemiological data even nowadays are lacking [1]. The first report was published in 1919, although cases have been described since the 16th century [2]. These patients usually present to the emergency department with complains of pelvic or lower abdominal pain [1]. Although there are a wide variety of types of foreign bodies and reasons for insertion, household objects such as bottles or glasses for autoeroticism is one of the most common reasons [2].

Abstract Ovarian cancer is the seventh most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the world and epithelial ovarian cancer is the most predominant pathologic subtype. Tumor markers are widely used in clinical practice to determine therapeutic efficacy, to detect recurrence and to predict prognosis in known cancers. CA-19-9 antigen is mainly elevated in cases of gastrointestinal tract malignancy, including of the pancreas, colorectum, and biliary tract. However, CA 19-9 antigen can also be elevated in ovarian mucinous neoplasms. We report herein the case of a 58-year-old woman who presented with an abnormally high level of CA 19-9 antigen associated with ovarian mucinous borderline tumor.

Abstract A 48-year-old patient presented acutely in our emergency department, reporting a fainting episode that took place several minutes prior, as well as continuous rectal blood loss. The patient’s prior medical history included known grade IV haemorrhoidal disease for the past 33 years, as well as one more instance of hospitalization for haemorrhoid-associated blood loss. Examination of the patient’s vital signs revealed a blood pressure of 98/67 mm Hg and a pulse rate of 68 bpm, while the respiratory rate and temperature were within the normal limits. Anorectal inspection revealed massive, grade IV internal haemorrhoidal disease, with numerous prolapsed and ulcerated haemorrhoids as well as active bleeding sites. Digital palpation of the rectum returned stool of normal consistency, as well as ample fresh blood. Complete blood count report returned hemoglobin (Hb) values of 7.0 g/dl and hematocrit (Hct) of 24.3% in addition to marked neutrophilia (73.9%), indicating severe acute blood loss.

Abstract Invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) is a rare, distinct histological subtype of breast carcinoma. While micropapillary histological architecture is found in up to 2–8% of all breast cancers, pure micropapillary carcinoma is infrequent and comprises 0.9–2% of breast carcinomas. Invasive micropapillary carcinoma is emerging as an oncological and surgical challenge due to a plethora of characteristics that constitute this histological pattern – interestingly, both elusive and aggressive. We present the case of a woman presenting with IMPC, who was primarily treated with tumour and lymph node marking, followed by primary systemic therapy (PST), and consequent oncoplastic surgery with sentinel lymph node biopsy. Our case report outlines the importance of awareness of histological subtypes in breast cancer by focusing on a case report of IMPC. The breast surgeon must be aware of the lymphotropic behaviour of this subtype and the high prevalence of lymph node involvement in such patients, and therefore focus on rigorous axillary assessment. One must not forget that, despite having a more aggressive biological profile, IMPC has demonstrated no difference in survival when compared to other histological subtypes, and treatment should conform to international guidelines with an emphasis on nodal staging.

Abstract Abstract A 34‐year‐old woman presented due to progressive painful swelling around the nail of the right index finger. Onychectomy and drainage of the abscess of the affected finger were performed as the inflammation was progressive despite the previous antibiotic therapy. The microbiological culture revealed a ciprofloxacin‐susceptible Citrobacter braakii.
