Abstract Traditionally, security systems for enterprises have implicit access based on strong cryptography, authentication and key sharing, wherein access control is based on Role Based Access Control (RBAC), in which roles such as manager, accountant and so on provide a way of deciding a subject's authority. However, years of post-attack analysis on enterprise networks has shown that a majority of times, security breaches occur intentionally or accidently due to implicitly trusted people of an enterprise itself. Zero Trust Architecture works on the principle of never granting trust implicitly, but rather continuously evaluating the trust parameters for each resource access request and has a strict, but not rigid, set of protocols for access control of a subject to resources. Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) systems are tools that collect a large number of attributes in and around machines within an enterprise network to have close visibility into sophisticated intrusion. In our work, we seek to deploy EDR systems and build trust algorithms using tactical provenance analysis, threshold cryptography and reputation management to continuously record data, evaluate trust of a subject, and simultaneously analyze them against a database of known threat vectors to provide conditional access control. However, EDR tools generate a high volume of data that leads to false alarms, misdetections and correspondingly a high backlog of tasks that makes it infeasible, which is addressed using tactical provenance analysis and information theory.

Abstract The non-population conserving SIR (SIR-NC) model to describe the spread of infections in a community is proposed and studied. Unlike the standard SIR model, SIR-NC does not assume population conservation. Although similar in form to the standard SIR, SIR-NC admits a closed form solution while allowing us to model mortality, and also provides different, and arguably a more realistic, interpretation of the model parameters. Numerical comparisons of this SIR-NC model with the standard, population conserving, SIR model are provided. Extensions to include imported infections, interacting communities, and models that include births and deaths are presented and analyzed. Several numerical examples are also presented to illustrate these models. Two control problems for the SIR-NC epidemic model are presented. First we consider the continuous time model predictive control in which the cost function variables correspond to the levels of lockdown, the level of testing and quarantine, and the number of infections. We also include a switching cost for moving between lockdown levels. A discrete time version that is more amenable to computation is then presented along with numerical illustrations. We then consider a multi-objective and multi-community control where we can define multiple cost functions on the different communities and obtain the minimum cost control to keep the value function corresponding to these control objectives below a prescribed threshold.

Abstract Background: The occurrence of retained ear mould impression material is rare and can lead to complications. The current case report describes one such complication, where the silicone impression material used to take the impression of the ear canal flowed into the middle ear through the pre-existing tympanic membrane perforation. Five days later, the patient presented with worsened hearing and blood-tinged discharge from the ear. Ear microscopy revealed a greenish foreign body in the middle ear.
Case report: The foreign body was removed by tympanotomy and the perforation repaired using a temporalis fascia graft. A hearing aid was prescribed after ensuring that the perforation had healed.
Conclusion: It is essential that the audiologist perform a basic otological examination before prescribing a hearing aid and preparing an ear mould. A clinical approach algorithm for audiologists, for prior to taking an impression, is suggested.

Abstract Ionic liquids (ILs) with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and water act as a promising solvent medium for the dissolution of cellulose in an efficient manner. To develop a proper solvent system, it is really important to understand the thermodynamics of the molecular solutions consisting of ILs, DMSO, and water. The ion-pairing propensity of the ILs in the presence of DMSO and water plays a crucial role in governing the property of the solvent mixtures. Employing all-atom molecular dynamics simulations, we estimate the potentials of mean force between BMIM

Abstract Substituted coumarins are a very large family of naturally occurring compounds, and substituted coumarins are versatile scaffolds for the development of medicinally active compounds. Coumarins are extensively found in higher plant families such as Rutaceae and Umbelliferae, and are ingredients in various essential oils such as cinnamon bark oil, cassia leaf oil, and lavender oil. Coumarin-based compounds are obtained from nature and substituted coumarins synthesized by chemists demonstrate antitumor, antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, anticoagulant, antimalarial, antiviral, anti-HIV and anti-inflammatory activities. They are also used as fluorescent dyes and probes and possess a variety of other bioactive properties. Coumarin and its derivatives might have diverse mechanisms of action on different targets for different activities depending on the substitution pattern on the coumarin scaffold. The important progress of natural and synthetic 4-substituted coumarin derivatives that are biologically active against many diseases is the subject of this review study. The research for more potent molecules begins with the substitution of the coumarin scaffold on the C-4 position, which showed anticancer activity against A549, ACHN, H727, MCF-7, and HL60 cancer cell lines. Overall, the expansion of anticancer, antibacterial, and antimalarial agents is covered by substitution at the C-4 position of the coumarin scaffold. This comprehensive study could aid in the development of more strong drug candidates for numerous diseases in the future, with broad and fascinating therapeutic applications.

Abstract HTTP based video streaming has become the de facto standard for video content delivery across different video streaming services. However, video content delivery continues to be challenged at the wireless edge by inadequate and highly variable bandwidth. In this paper, we describe WiCode, a platform that improves HTTP based video content delivery at the WiFi edge. WiCode uses coded delivery at the WiFi AP to reduce data transmissions in order to improve the perceived performance of video streaming at the users. WiCode performs index coding on video segments to reduce the number of bits transmitted. Further, it also performs index coding on UDP packets that are retransmitted to reduce the number of bits transmitted. This paper describes the design and implementation of WiCode, and the practical gains achievable due to employing coded delivery in a real system taking into account the overheads introduced by WiCode. The WiCode module at the client side is a browser plugin that does not require any client side device configuration changes. We also show the effect of variable and fixed length segment size on the perceived performance of WiCode.

Abstract Trichomalopsis uziae Sureshan and Narendra Kumar (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae), a newly reported ectopupal parasitoid of the tachinid fly Exorista bombycis (Louis), an endolarval parasitoid of the mulberry silk worm (Bombyx mori L.) is also found to parasitize house fly (Musca domestica L.) and blue bottle fly (Calliphora vomitoria L.) The present study deals with the comparative account of parasitism potential of the parasitoid in addition to its reproductive efficiency. When these hosts were exposed independently to the parasitoid (no choice), the parasitism as well as progeny production were significantly higher with E. bombycis compared to M. domestica and C. vomitoria, respectively. But, when these hosts were offered together to the parasitoid (choice condition), the parasitism and progeny production were significantly superior with E. bombycis in comparison with M. domestica and there was no parasitism with C. vomitoria. The results thus demonstrate the suitability of E. bombycis as a suitable host.

Abstract The influence of temperature on the biological parameters of parasitoids vary according to species. In the present study, effect of temperature was evaluated on the development of pteromalid Trichomalopsis uziae, a pupal parasitoid of the silk worm uzi fly, Exorista bombycis. The results revealed that progeny production, sex ratio, and parent female longevity were significantly high at 25°C, while at cool temperatures of 10 and 15°C as well as the hot 35°C inhibited parasitism/ parasitoid development. Besides, the developmental duration of the parasitoid ranged between 12.70± 0.21 (30°C) and 23.60± 0.27 days (20°C).
