| Abstract | My objective is to analyse the James Fenimore Cooper’s novel The Pioneers. I have chosen this text because it reveals the contradiction and conflict evidence of the American Society between 1800 and 1850. In spite of the American myth to lay stress on the United States society was built by self made men and small propriety, Cooper shows the gentleman’s conservative perspective. O meu objetivo é analisar o romance de James Fenimore Cooper The Pioneers. Escolhi esse texto por ser ele revelador das contradições e conflitos da sociedade norte-americana entre 1800 e 1850. Embora o mito norteamericano evidencie que os Estados Unidos foram construídos por homens simples e pequenos proprietários, Cooper revela a perspectiva conservadora que unia parte da elite do país. |
