    Abstract For better dealing with psychosocial issues of different strata of society, psychosocial crisis prevention and intervention models should be urgently developed by governments, health care personnel and other stakeholders. Using a self-developed questionnaire, Meng et al examined the psychological status of older persons in China during COVID-19. Depression and anxiety were found to be major issues among this population. Older adults reported less loneliness overall compared to younger age groups but had an increase in loneliness during the acute phase of the outbreak. Their loneliness, however, decreased after the issuance of stay-at-home orders. Confinement, isolation and lack of information regarding services can lead to older adults being unaware of help that is available to them. One possible type of intervention to alleviate these problems could take the form of mental health outreach services. Richardson et al highlight new opportunities such as the ability to collaborate more widely and to design and deliver research for older people13.Similarly, Cudjoe et al note how the current constraints of physical distancing offer a unique opportunity to envision, pilot or implement novel solutions that could have a lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of older adults.

    Abstract There is general consensus that those who are effected most by decision making relating todisability services and policies should participate in thedecision making processwhere possible6, 17, 18, 20, 21.In 2016, the National Disability Authority1published a report which aimed to identify and examine models of engagement and participation of people with disabilities in developing services.The report points out that the engagement and participation of people with disabilities in developing services can be complex and requires careful consideration of the following factorsincluding the development of user-led organisations; underpinning user involvement in policy and practice with a statement of principles that has strong political support; assurance or formal and systematic evaluations of participatory mechanismswhich involve people with disabilities; adequate funding; and achieving participation among users in rural or more remote areas.Ottmann and Laragy7outline the 10 lessons learned from the development of a consumer-directed care programme in Australiaincludingearly participant involvement;open, inclusive communication;ongoing commitment and support from management and key stakeholders;effective knowledge transfer and cultural change;capacity building;mediation of power differentials;community building;and participant re-engagement.

    Abstract As the CDC5 point out, since asymptomatic persons are not routinely tested, the prevalence of asymptomatic infection and detection of pre-symptomatic infection is not well understood. The WHO1 suggest that based upon the data available, 80% of COVID-19 infections are mild or asymptomatic. An analysis of available data published by the CEBM22 on April 6th suggested that 5% and 80% of people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 may be asymptomatic, that symptom-based screening will miss cases, perhaps many cases, and that asymptomatic cases may become symptomatic. Similarly, an Evidence Summary from HIQA published on 21 April notes the difficulties inherent in identifying truly asymptomatic carriers. There is significant variability in the data arising from the original studies. Much of the data from original studies is derived from closed settings, such as cruise ships, prisons and long term care facilities, which may limit the generalisability. Two American papers have been published regarding older people who are asymptomatic.

    Abstract Venkatesh et al point to quarantine and social isolation as contributors to frustration, boredom, low mood and potentially depression among those affected by recent pandemics. Anxiety was associated with stress and reduced sleep quality, and the combination of anxiety and stress reduced the positive effects of social capital on sleep quality5. Brooks et al11 found that during major infectious disease outbreaks, quarantine can be a necessary preventive measure; however, quarantine is also often associated with a negative psychological effect. Mukhtar et al point to substantial evidence from past epidemics on the detrimental impact of quarantine on psychological health. In a study carried out in the Basque community in Northern Spain, Ozamiz-Etxebarria et al8 found that although levels of anxiety were generally low at the start of the pandemic alert, younger individuals with chronic diseases reported more symptoms than the rest of the population.
