Titelübersetzung Analysis of suicide cases in the autopsy material of the Department of Forensic Medicine Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz, University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń in 2011-2020.
Abstract Aim: Analysis of suicides on the basis of forensic post mortem examinations conducted at the Department of Forensic Medicine in Bydgoszcz in comparison with data from previous years and other centers.
Material and methods: The assessment included 6,564 forensic medical opinions from the post mortem examinations carried out in 2011-2020, including 1,073 cases of suicide, taking into account the sex and age of the victims, the place where the suicide was committed, the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants, methods of committing suicides and date (month and year).
Results: Suicides accounted for 16.34% of all post mortem examinations. The most common method of suicide was hanging - 73%. The second most common way to take your own life was fall from height - 8%. The most numerous age group among those committing suicide are people between 51 and 60 years of age. In most cases, the suicide victims were sober. There is a significant difference between the state of sobriety and the gender of the victim. Male victims were much more often under the influence of alcohol during the suicide. 14% of all suicides were committed by women, and 86% by men. Death as a result of suicide took place somewhat more often within the boundaries of large urban agglomerations than in towns and villages.
Conclusions: The research showed an increase in the suicide rate compared to the previous years. Hanging is still the most common form of suicide. There has been an increase in the number of suicides in the elderly and an increase in the number of so-called combined suicides.

Abstract Each phenotype is a product of the interaction of the genes and the environment. Although winter phenotype in seasonal mammals is heritable, its development may be modified by external conditions. In today's world, global climate change and increasing frequency of unpredictable weather events may affect the dynamic equilibrium between phenotypes. We tested the effect of changes in ambient temperature during acclimation to short photoperiod on the development of winter phenotypes in three generations of Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus). Based on seasonal changes in fur colour, body mass, and expression of daily torpor we distinguished three different winter phenotypes: responding, non-responding, and partially-responding to short photoperiod. We found that warm spells in winter can increase the proportion of non-responding individuals in the population, while stable winter conditions can increase photoresponsiveness among the offspring of non-responders. We conclude that the polymorphism of winter phenotype is an inherent characteristic of the Siberian hamster population but the development of winter phenotype is not fixed but rather a plastic response to the environmental conditions.

Titelübersetzung Experiences of people with refugee backgrounds in utilising healthcare in Germany-findings from a qualitative study.
Abstract Background: Refugees and asylum seekers face a variety of legal, structural, administrative, cultural and linguistic barriers in accessing healthcare. However, there is currently a lack of available data on the health needs of refugees and asylum seekers. In particular, their subjective experience in accessing healthcare has not been considered sufficiently.
Aim of the study: This paper explores the subjective experiences of refugees and asylum seekers in accessing and using healthcare. Strategies for dealing with potential challenges are presented.
Methods: The recruitment of interview partners was based on a quantitative cross-sectional study collected as part of a study on the health of refugees (FlüGe health study). Persons who agreed to be contacted again were contacted by telephone. A heterogeneous sub-sample (n = 18) with regard to age, gender, nationality, health status and utilisation behaviour was interviewed using interpreter-supported problem-centred interviews. Data were analysed using a deductive-inductive approach.
Results and discussion: The migration-insensitive healthcare for refugees and asylum seekers is characterised by language barriers, disorientation, experiences of rejection, mistreatment and structural barriers. Experiences of foreignness in the healthcare system can lead to delayed care seeking or underusage of healthcare systems. At the same time, individual strategies by refugees, asylum seekers and healthcare providers are used in order to meet these challenges.

Abstract The strength of the bond between agriculture and the natural environment is measured by output intensity. This work aimed to evaluate the diversity of agriculture across the European Union in terms of agricultural output intensity from the perspective of the assumptions of the concept of sustainable development. Surveys were conducted using selected indicators based on data derived from EUROSTAT, FAOSTAT, and FADN from 2010–2019. The adopted indicators were used for developing a ranking of member states according to output intensity, which, in confrontation with the level of agricultural efficiency, can form a basis for an individual approach to the development strategies of respective member states. Their findings imply that, in the analyzed period, differences in output intensity among member states declined insignificantly. From 2010 to 2019, most countries forming the so-called ‘old 15′ featured higher output intensity than new member states. The Netherlands and Malta recorded the highest cost of intermediate consumption per 1 ha of utilized agricultural area. By contrast, agricultural production was the least intensive in Bulgaria. Land productivity was also very strongly variable. The difference between the old and new member states was clearly marked. Dutch agriculture reached the highest land productivity from 2010 to 2019, where agricultural production levels per 1 ha were five times higher than on average in the European Union.
