Abstract A major gap in the biodiversity knowledge graph is a connection between taxonomic names and the taxonomic literature. While both names and publications often have persistent identifiers (PIDs), such as Life Science Identifiers (LSIDs) or Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), LSIDs for names are rarely linked to DOIs for publications. This article describes efforts to make those connections across three large taxonomic databases: Index Fungorum, International Plant Names Index (IPNI) and the Index of Organism Names (ION). Over a million names have been matched to DOIs or other persistent identifiers for taxonomic publications. This represents approximately 36% of names for which publication data are available. The mappings between LSIDs and publication PIDs are made available through ChecklistBank. Applications of this mapping are discussed, including a web app to locate the citation of a taxonomic name and a knowledge graph that uses data on researcher ORCID ids to connect taxonomic names and publications to authors of those names.

Abstract Constructing a biodiversity knowledge graph will require making millions of cross links between diversity entities in different datasets. Researchers trying to bootstrap the growth of the biodiversity knowledge graph by constructing databases of links between these entities lack obvious ways to publish these sets of links. One appealing and lightweight approach is to create a "datasette", a database that is wrapped together with a simple web server that enables users to query the data. Datasettes can be packaged into Docker containers and hosted online with minimal effort. This approach is illustrated using a dataset of links between globally unique identifiers for plant taxonomic namesand identifiers for the taxonomic articles that published those names.

Abstract In 1962, the first custodial Democratic Therapeutic Community (DTC) was established in the English prison estate at HMP Grendon. Today, the Category B male prison estate in England and Wales has three DTCs and three 'TC+' units for prisoners with learning disabilities. There is one DTC in the female estate at HMP Send. The services fall under the remit of the Offender Personality Disorder Pathway, a jointly commissioned initiative that aims to provide a pathway of psychologically informed services for a highly complex and challenging group of prisoners who are likely to have a severe personality disorder. Several of these units make clear that prisoners prescribed psychotropic medicines are specifically excluded from entry and participation in the available therapy. This analysis paper explores whether an evidence-based rationale exists for this practice and examines the impact on those whose care pathways may comprise hospitals and prisons.

Abstract Every seed, big or small, needs sunlight, water, and an uncrowded place to put down roots. But how do seeds get to the perfect place to grow? This exploration of seed dispersal covers a wide range of seeds and the creatures that help them move, from a coconut seed floating on waves to an African grass seed rolled by a dung beetle, to a milkweed seed floating on the wind.

Abstract As the first point of contact for patients, General Practitioners (GPs) play a crucial role in the National Health Service (NHS). An accurate primary diagnosis from the GP can alleviate the burden on specialists and reduce the time needed to re-confirm the patient's condition, allowing for more efficient further examinations. However, GPs have broad but less specialized knowledge, which limits the accuracy of their diagnosis. Therefore, it is imperative to introduce an intelligent system to assist GPs in making decisions. This paper introduces two data augmentation methods, the Complaint Symptoms Integration Method and Symptom Dot Separating Method, to integrate essential information into the Integration dataset. Additionally, it proposes a hybrid architecture that fuses the features of words from different representation spaces. Experiments demonstrate that, compared to commonly used pre-trained attention-based models, our hybrid architecture delivers the best classification performance for four common neurological diseases on the enhanced Integration dataset. For example, the classification accuracy of the BERT+CNN hybrid architecture is 0.897, which is a 5.1% improvement over both BERT and CNN with 0.846. Finally, this paper develops an AI diagnosis assistant web application that leverages the superior performance of this architecture to help GPs complete primary diagnosis efficiently and accurately.
