Abstract Boron (B) fertilizers are recognized as essential for ensuring yield and fruit quality. However, the importance of soil and foliar B fertilization in almond orchards under rainfed conditions is presently unclear. To address this literature gap, in the present study, the impact of soil and foliar application of B on leaf gas exchange, leaf photosynthetic pigments, yield, and fruit quality in almonds was investigated across three consecutive growing seasons. Boron fertilizer was applied to the soil at four rates (0, 1, 2, and 3 kg ha⁻¹) in the presence or absence of foliar application (0.36 g L⁻¹) of the same micronutrient. Borax pentahydrate was used as the B source. When compared to foliar B fertilization, the soil application of B positively affected the gas exchange parameters, mainly the net CO₂ assimilation rate, stomatal conductance, and transpiration rate (percentage of gain between 15% and 80%), but did not influence the chlorophyll content. The almond yield and fruit characteristics were also enhanced (about 25–72%) in response to lower soil B fertilization rates. In the 3 kg ha⁻¹ dose, B had an adverse effect on the yield and resulted in lighter fruits. On the other hand, foliar B fertilization did not benefit any of the evaluated parameters. Overall, these results suggest that, under the studied conditions, almond orchards do not respond to higher B rates in soil or foliar B fertilization.

Abstract Background: Several studies pointed out that evidence-based practice (EBP) promotes healthcare quality, reduces healthcare costs and improves the patients' experience. However, the EBP implementation and sustainment in clinical practice remain a challenge mainly due to several gaps between research and practice. Some authors and organizations have highlighted the important role that education could have to reduce those gaps. Therefore, it is mandatory to include EBP content in undergraduate nursing curricula to promote an EBP culture among future nurses.
Aims: To develop an EBP educational intervention designed for undergraduate nursing students. To explore the opinion of students who received the intervention.
Methods: An EBP educational intervention was developed for undergraduate nursing students according to the guideline for reporting EBP educational interventions and teaching checklist by two researchers with experience in science synthesis. The draft of the intervention was sent to experts for an opinion. Their opinions were analyzed and the suggestions were incorporated. Then, the intervention was applied to fourth-year nursing undergraduate students and, afterwards, the feedback of participants was requested through an online questionnaire.
Results/discussion: The program was designed for 17 weeks with a total of 18 h (12 h of classroom lessons and 6 h of mentorship). Eight experts analyzed the draft and provided their opinion. Overall, the experts considered that the program was well designed, but recommended some adjustments regarding the objectives and the target population. After the intervention implementation, 16 participants provided feedback on the program. Their feedback was positive, with an exception made for the duration of the program.
Conclusion: According to the experts' opinion and students' feedback, the EBP educational program seems to be an appropriate educational program to embed EBP in the undergraduate nursing curricula.

Abstract Aims and objectives: To perform the semantic validation and to evaluate the reliability and the presence of ceiling and floor effects of the Cardiac Patients Learning Needs Inventory in Portuguese patients with coronary artery disease.
Background: Information should be selected based on what patients know and need to learn, which means that the teaching process should be based on each person's needs. The Cardiac Patients Learning Needs Inventory is aimed at identifying the cardiac patients' individual learning needs.
    Design: Methodological research design.
Methods: Two hundred patients hospitalised at the coronary intensive care unit or at the cardiothoracic surgery unit of a public hospital in Lisbon answered the adapted version of the Cardiac Patients Learning Needs Inventory. Internal consistency was estimated based on Cronbach's alpha. Scores above 0·50 were considered acceptable. Stability was measured through test-retest and calculated using student's t test. Significance was set at 0·05.
Results: Patients' mean age was 65 years (SD = 11·8), and most were men (152; 76%). Cronbach's alpha for the total scale was high in the first and second measurement (0·91), and for seven domains, it was acceptable in the first and second measurement (range from 0·50-0·89). No statistically significant difference was found between mean scores on the first and second measurement. Lower diversity was observed in the answers, most of which ranged between important and very important (ceiling-effect).
Conclusion: The adapted version for use in Portugal maintained the conceptual, semantic and idiomatic equivalences of the original version and showed adequate reliability. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICES: Owing to the lack of validated instruments translated into Portuguese, to measure cardiac patients' learning needs, this study entails important clinical and theoretical implications.
