Abstract In this paper, polyethylene glycol (PEG)‐based ultrasonic‐assisted enzymatic extraction (UAEE) was employed in polysaccharides extraction from Lonicerae japonica leaves (LJLP). The optimal extraction conditions (extraction time of 33 min, PEG concentration of 30%, and ultrasonic power of 191 W) were obtained by Box–Behnken design (BBD). Under this condition, the LJLP yield was 14.76%. Furthermore, LJLP was identified as a typical heteropolysaccharide considering the main constitutive monosaccharides include galactose (32.3%), glucose (20.9%), and ribose (15.2%). Moreover, LJLP exhibited high total reducing power and considerable scavenging activities on superoxide radicals, in a concentration‐dependent manner in vitro. In addition, antioxidant analysis in vivo revealed that for the LJLP‐treated mice, the superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH‐Px), catalase (CAT) activities, and total antioxidant capacity (TAOC) were significantly increased, while the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) was decreased in both serum and liver.

Abstract Growing evidence has suggested that dietary modification is implicated with sleep alteration. Our study aimed to determine whether an association between diet in terms of diet quality, certain food consumption, and dietary nutrients intake and sleep quality existed in Chinese urban adults, which has been fully investigated. A cross‐sectional study was conducted among urban adults from eight Chinese cities. Total of 1,548 participants remained in the final analysis. Sleep quality was evaluated by the Chinese version of the Pittsburg Sleep Questionnaire Index. Diet quality, evaluated by Chinese Healthy Diet Index, and dietary intake, including food groups and nutrients, were derived from a semiquantitative Food Intake Frequencies Questionnaire and a single 24‐hr dietary recall. The relationship between dietary variables and sleep quality was examined using multivariable logistic regression models. Logistic regression analysis indicated that better diet quality, which features greater food diversity, higher ingestion of fruits and fish, along with higher seafood consumption, lower eggs consumption, and higher total energy intake, was significantly associated with lower risk of poor sleep quality in the crude model and the fully adjusted model with adjustment for gender, age, self‐rated health condition, self‐assessed mental stress, smoking, hypertension, and BMI. Therefore, we reached a conclusion that diet quality and certain food consumption were related to sleep quality. Although the associations observed in the cross‐sectional study require further investigation in prospective studies, dietary intervention, such as enhancement in food diversity and consumption of fruits and seafood, might serve as a probable strategy for sleep improvement.

Abstract This book is intended to provide a quick guide to the field of pediatric retina. It has been long accepted that retinal disorders in children differ from those in adults. Although there are plenty of published books on retinal diseases, most of them only cover adult retinal disorders. Therefore, information on pediatric retinal diseases is urgently needed. The book combines comprehensive information with rich illustrations to offer readers an in-depth understanding of the two main themes: retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and other pediatric vitreoretinal disorders. World-renowned pediatric retina experts share their insights and research findings in areas such as ROP, familiar exudative vitreoretinopathy, Coats disease, retinoblastoma, congenital x-linked retinoschisis and hereditary retinal diseases. Topics concerning modern and future medicine such as tele-screening for ROP, E-learning for ROP, and deep learning for ROP are also included. Designed to help readers understand the contents as quickly as possible, the book includes many useful tips and pearls, as well as easy-to-follow figures. It covers the majority of pediatric retinal diseases and offers essential information on their diagnosis and management. In addition, relevant and up-to-date references are provided for those who want to explore the topics in more depth. As such, the book offers an excellent reference guide to caring for these young patients.

Abstract Non-Newtonian (non-linear) fluids are common in nature, for example, in mud and honey, but also in many chemical, biological, food, pharmaceutical, and personal care processing industries. This Special Issue of Fluids is dedicated to the recent advances in the mathematical and physical modeling of non-linear fluids with industrial applications, especially those concerned with CFD studies. These fluids include traditional non-Newtonian fluid models, electro- or magneto-rheological fluids, granular materials, slurries, drilling fluids, polymers, blood and other biofluids, mixtures of fluids and particles, et cetera
