    Abstract In this study, we investigated the destructive effect of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) masonry walls subjected to close-in explosions. First, full-size refined finite-element models of the AAC masonry wall were established, and the accuracy of the models was verified by comparison with the test results. The destruction pattern and damage characteristics of the AAC wall were studied, and the effects of block size, wall thickness, mortar compressive strength, and explosion distance on the destruction degree of the AAC masonry walls were analyzed. The results showed that the destruction pattern of the AAC masonry wall subjected to close-in explosion manifested as punching damage in the middle of the wall. When the scaled distance remained unchanged, the punching damage area of the AAC masonry wall was positively correlated with the block size and negatively correlated with the wall thickness and mortar compressive strength. When the explosive equivalent remained unchanged and the explosion distance increased, the punching damage area first increased and then decreased. According to the damage mechanism of the AAC masonry wall, a calculation method for predicting the punching damage area of the AAC masonry wall was established, and the accuracy of this method was verified by comparing it with the numerical results. In addition, the damage criterion based on the punching damage area was established to determine the destruction levels of AAC masonry walls.

    Abstract The susceptibility of reinforced concrete (RC) slabs to punching shear failure is heightened when subjected to close-in explosion loads, leading to a wider range of damage caused by the resultant leakage shock wave through the punching hole. Consequently, it is crucial to analyze the conditions for punching shear failure and the size of the punching hole in RC slabs. This study investigates the punching shear failure of RC slabs under close-in explosions through numerical simulation and theoretical analysis. Initially, a finite element model is developed to examine the distribution of the explosion load on the slab's surface. Subsequently, the critical explosion load for punching shear failure is determined using a damage criterion specific to RC slabs. Additionally, a calculation model based on the twin shear stress yield criterion is established to predict the punching hole's radius. To validate the accuracy of this method, a comparison is conducted with existing test results.

    Abstract A new Ru(II) complex of [Ru(bpy)(2)(Hpip)](2+) {bpy = 2,2'bipyridine; Hppip = 2-(4-(pyridin-2-yl)phenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline} has been synthesized by grafting of 2-pyridyl to parent complex [Ru(bpy)(2)(Hpip)](2+) {Hppip = 2-(4-phenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline}. The acid-base properties of [Ru(bpy)(2)(Hpip)](2+) studied by UV-visible and luminescence spectrophotometric pH titrations, revealed off-on-off luminescence switching of [Ru(bpy)(2)(Hpip)](2+) that was driven by the protonation/deprotonation of the imidazolyl and the pyridyl moieties. The complex was demonstrated to be a DNA intercalator with an intrinsic DNA binding constant of (5.56 ± 0.2) x 10(5) M-1 in buffered 50 mM NaCl, as evidenced by UV-visible and luminescence titrations, reverse salt effect, DNA competitive binding with ethidium bromide, steady-state emission quenching by [Fe(CN)6]4-, DNA melting experiments and viscosity measurements. The density functional theory method was also used to calculate geometric/electronic structures of the complex in an effort to understand the DNA binding properties. All the studies indicated that the introduction of 2-pyridyl onto Hpip ligand is more favorable for extension of conjugate plane of the main ligand than that of phenyl, and for greatly enhanced ct-DNA binding affinity accordingly.
