    Abstract Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major worldwide problem which should be adequately combated. This review summarizes two successful model programs to eradicate Hepatitis C in two countries; Egypt and Georgia. Egypt tops the list of nations affected by HCV, and Georgia is ranked among other countries with huge HCV burden. Currently, both countries are on their ambitious way to making history and completely eliminate Hepatitis C virus infections. The first comprehensive approach to reduce the burden of hepatitis C and associated diseases in Egypt was achievable with the formulation of the National Committee for Control of Viral Hepatitis (NCCVH) in 2006. Assisted by international and national stalk holders, Georgia started its nation- wide HCV fighting program in 2015. Elements of programs mostly addressed in both countries included simplifying and improving access to the package of diagnosis and care- providing effective, affordable or free of charge treatment- issuing, applying and regularly updating practice guidelines- improving surveillance, monitoring, and research focusing specifically on the risky groups- emphasizing infection control (IC) - encouraging patient and community engagement and increasing public and political commitment. Interventions are still going on to eradicate HCV infection in Egypt by 2030 and in Georgia by 2020. Lessons gained from this program can educate comparable activities in different nations and help control the worldwide epidemic of viral hepatitis.

    Abstract Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a significant global health problem, affecting over 150 million people worldwide. There is increasing evidence that a small percentage of individuals exposed to the HCV have the capacity to generate a strong cellular as well as humeral immune response against the virus and avoid persistent infection, and perhaps do so repeatedly after re-exposure. While the critical role of the adaptive immune system in HCV infection is well-established, the importance of the innate immune system has been recognized in more recent years. The immune system has many weapons to combat the HCV infection. These include type I interferons, HCV specific CD4+ cells and CD8+ T cells, cytokine production, natural killer cells, dentritic cells, and the production of anti-HCV neutralizing antibodies. Toll-like receptors form an important element of the innate immune response, and there is considerable evidence for their crucial role in HCV infection. In order to limit the availability of the cellular components for viral amplification, apoptosis occurs. It involves caspases, the key effectors of apoptotic cell death. This article reviews what the immune system does, when HCV attacks the body.

    Abstract Introduction: To date, the world has experienced four waves of the Coronavirus disease- 19 (COVID-19) pandemic. Patients infected during the era of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Delta variant were the subject of this study. The objectives were to describe their clinical manifestations, explain their laboratory and radiological findings, conclude factors contributing to clinical outcomes, and evaluate treatment protocols.
    Methodology: Relevant data were collected retrospectively from records of patients admitted to six referral centers in four countries. Data included sociodemographic patterns, symptoms, associated comorbidities, physical examination, laboratory and radiologic findings, treatment received, and patient outcomes.
    Results: Data analysis identified symptomatology and variables related to acquisition and infection outcome. The most prevalent symptoms were cough (81.5%), body aches (74.1%), and fever (71.6%). Independent risk factors for mortality were age, vomiting, epigastric pain, diabetes, obesity, oxygen saturation less than 90%, leukocytosis, neutrophilia, lymphopenia, thrombocytopenia, elevated creatinine, high glucose level, lung ground glass opacities with consolidation, affection of four lobes and bilateralism. Neither d-dimer nor lactate dehydrogenase nor ferritin foretells death possibility. The efficacy of the medications used was convenient.
    Conclusions: Assessing the clinical features of different COVID-19 waves, identifying predictors of outcomes, and concluding the efficacy of treatment protocols provide insight into patients' responses and viral behaviors, which help in the proper diagnosis and treatment of subsequent surges.

    Abstract Cystic echinococcosis has been considered one of the major parasitic zoonoses which is associated with severe economic losses. The present study was undertaken to investigate the occurrence, organ distribution, cyst fertility, and viability of cystic echinococcosis in slaughtered camels and cattle from various abattoirs in Assiut Governorate, Egypt. The work also involved morphological, morphometric, and molecular identification of the parasite. The occurrence of hydatid cysts was investigated in total number of 100 lungs of camels and 574 liver and lungs of cattle admitted to three slaughterhouses at Assiut Governorate, Egypt. Moreover, several individual variable factors, including organ involvement, age, sex, and hydatid cyst characteristics, were studied to identify their possible association with the occurrence of the disease. Genomic DNA was extracted from the hydatid cysts, followed by molecular identification of the parasite through amplification of ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions. Hydatid cysts were found in 6 camels (6%) out of 100 inspected camels, while 5 hydatid cysts (0.87%) were detected in a total number of 574 cattle examined. The parasite was detected exclusively in lungs of camels, while lungs were the main organ infected by the parasite in cattle and one hydatid cyst was found in the liver (0.17%). In camel, 66.7, 16.65, and 16.65%of detected cysts were fertile, sterile, and calcified, respectively, while in cattle, these percentages were 60, 20, and 20%, respectively. None of the studied variable factors were significantly associated with the occurrence of the disease in camels, with the exception that all cysts were found in the lung.
