Abstract In this study, we selected materials that efficiently adsorb total hydrocarbons (THCs) from petrochemical storage facilities and applied four types of activated carbons to adsorb THCs to evaluate their properties. Four gases with low boiling points, namely, ethylene, ethane, propylene, and propane, generated via petrochemical storage facilities, were selected and mixed to a constant concentration with four types of materials and used to investigate the adsorption capacities and desorption properties. The adsorbents comprised two raw materials and two chemically activated materials. The specific surface areas of activated palm (2085 m

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the failure rates and relevant factors of bonded orthodontic brackets with a computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM)-based 3D-printed indirect bonding jig system (IDBS) using 2531 natural teeth selected from 99 orthodontic patients. Ceramic self-ligating brackets and metal tubes were used in this study. Proportion analysis was used to calculate the total bracket re-bonding rate and respective proportions of bonding failure and position error. Crossover frequency analysis was used to analyze the total bracket re-bonding, bonding failure, and position error rates in different tooth positions of the maxilla and mandible. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between dependent variables (age, sex, treatment stage, skeletal divergence, and tooth position) and the bracket bonding failure rate. Pearson’s Chi-square test was used to test the difference between the maxilla and mandible for each variable. The total bracket re-bonding rate was 22.64%, and the bonding failure rate and position error rates accounted for 15.09% and 7.55%, respectively. The bonding failure rate was higher in the mandibular teeth than in the maxillary teeth ( p < 0.05). Anterior teeth had a higher position error rate, and mandibular anterior teeth had a higher bonding failure rate. The accuracy of IDBS was higher in the premolars and molars. Sex, age, and treatment stage were affected by IDBS. Patients with hyperdivergent skeletal patterns had higher rates of bracket bonding failure. The results of this study can provide practical guidelines for placing brackets with 3D-printed IDBS on the entire dentition to ensure the precision and accuracy of their use during orthodontic treatments.

Abstract Urea is a problematic pollutant in reclaimed water for ultrapure water (UPW) production. The sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation process (SR-AOP) has been recognized as an effective method for urea degradation. However, conventional metal-based catalysts for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation are unsuitable for UPW production due to issues related to metal ion leaching. In this study, the use of powdered activated carbon (PAC) was investigated for the removal of urea from reclaimed water. The PAC exhibited a high degree of defects (I

Abstract Abstract Background Career identity is defined as the ability to substantialise career goals and results from the social learning process achieved through interactions with others. This study aimed to understand how the internship experience in Korea affects career identity, which provides a foundation for developing professional values while promoting personal goals and aspirations. Methods We conducted eleven semi-structured interviews with interns at a university hospital in Korea who had completed internships and chosen a speciality. The interview transcripts underwent inductive thematic analysis using consensual qualitative research approaches. Themes identified were categorised from three domains for the year-long internship experience: personal cognitive, social interaction, and system domains. Results Researchers derived seven categories and 20 subcategories from the transcripts: (1) self-reflection throughout internship training, (2) practical awareness of the internship programme’s operation, (3) perception of individual competence, (4) recognition of mentor importance, (5) situational awareness in the clinical department, (6) relationship experience, and (7) experience of institutional limitations. The internship experience, during which the individual is in charge and core values drive career decisions, is important for the formation of career identity and career orientation. The internship programme provides information about the clinical department to applicants seeking residency and serves a mediating role, providing information about applicants to the clinical departments. Internship is an important period during which career identity is formed. Conclusion The internship programme provides information about clinical departments to applicants seeking residency; it is an important period during which career identity is formed. This study helps provide an in-depth understanding of interns and a base for developing institutional and policy support for students during an uncertain time when ...

Abstract Chronic hand and foot eczema (CHFE) is a common inflammatory disorder that generally lasts for over 3 months. If it is intractable to topical agents, systemic immunomodulators can be considered; however, they are not suitable for long-term management because of their adverse effects. Baricitinib is an oral Janus kinase inhibitor that has been approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis. However, its effect on CHFE has rarely been described. Herein, we report nine cases of recalcitrant CHFE that were treated with baricitinib after an inadequate response to low-dose ciclosporin. All patients had more than moderate improvement within 2-8 weeks without serious adverse effects.
