Abstract Objective: To develop and validate an instrument for nursing consultation with pediatric patients in the preoperative period.
Method: This is a methodological study, consisting of five steps: identification of nursing diagnoses, discussion and evaluation of diagnoses with nurses from the institution, instrument development, instrument content validation with experts through the Delphi Technique, and instrument restructuring. The Nursing Minimum Data Set, Wanda Horta's human needs, and the NANDA-NOC-NIC connections were used as theoretical framework.
Results: In its final version, the instrument includes an assessment of psychobiological, psychosocial, and psychospiritual human needs, 38 nursing diagnoses, 65 nursing interventions, 113 nursing activities, and 62 nursing outcomes. The instrument obtained a content validity index between 0.90 and 1.0 in the first round, and suggestions, validated in the second round, obtained agreement from 70 to 100%.
Conclusion: The instrument developed can be a tool for use in nursing consultations in the preoperative period for children, providing greater assertiveness to nursing actions for this clientele.

Abstract Objective: to identify, in scientific productions, nursing interventions in palliative care in children and adolescents with cancer.
Method: integrative review of the literature through the databases: CINAHL, MEDLINE, IBECS, LILACS and SCIELO, carried out in October and November 2017.
Results: we analyzed 18 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that, among the articles selected, Brazil is the country with the largest number of publications and that interventions such as music therapy, massage, ludic application, early consultation of palliative care, social interventions and physical exercises aimed at the resolution of a specific symptom obtained better results when compared to interventions that aimed at the comprehensiveness of palliative care.
Final consideration: we conclude that greater emphasis should be given to palliative care in academic and professional training and that further studies in search of the best evidence should be conducted to support nursing Evidence-Based Practices.

Abstract Objective: To describe the daily activities performed by children from 6 to 12 years of age incomplete and analyze children's behavior during social distancing in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: Cross-sectional study with children in a learning stage living in Brazil. The data were collected via online form. Fisher's exact test was applied to analyze the association of categorical variables with child behavior; when significant, it was used the odds ratio. It was considered results considered statistically significant those presenting values of p < 0.05.
Results: Data from 530 children were analyzed: 50.3% female, 71.3% from the Southeast Region, 73% in fulltime social distancing, 52% presented anxiety, which was significantly associated with changes in sleep and appetite.
Conclusion: The results indicate the need for parents/caretakers to stimulate moments for the child to express themselves, not minimizing their feelings and providing emotional support to mitigate the negative impact of these feelings on the child's mental and physical health.

Abstract Objective: to identify the factors that hinder and facilitate the work of the nursing team in a neonatal unit and to know the demands of Permanent Education described by the nursing team, emerging from the daily care.
Method: qualitative study that followed the steps recommended by the "Paulo Freire's Method" carried out with 29 professionals of the nursing team of a neonatal unit of a university hospital. Three Culture Circles were carried out to identify the generating themes.
Results: The themes generated were organized according to the issues covered in the interviews and during the Culture Circles, with four themes being highlighted: lack of routines; training; improvement of coexistence of the team and improvement of management process.
Final considerations: The study made it possible to know the factors that hinder and facilitate the routine practice of nursing professionals by identifying the emergent themes of the Culture Circles that favored the critical reflection of the group, generating subsidies for the collective elaboration of the Permanent Education program in neonatal unit.

Abstract Aim: to analyze nursing practice concerning pain assessment of newborns admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Methods: descriptive study in a qualitative approach, developed with 22 nursing professionals at a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was used a semi-structured interview and data was submitted to a Content Analysis. Results: the majority of the interviewees were women, aged between 34-55 years, with levels of schooling as undergraduate and specialization/post graduation. The following categories emerged: Pain identification; The Systematization of Nursing Care due to pain management; and Pharmacological and non-Pharmacological use in the control pain. It was verified that the Nursing Team assumes that Newborns feel pain, identifies pain by physiological and behavioral parameters, applies some non-pharmacological measures for its control, but does not use pain assessment scales, resulting in sub-treatment. Conclusions: pain assessment is not strengthened in nursing practice, and there is a necessity of knowledge update about the implementation of a pain evaluation scale aiming quality of care.

Abstract Objective: To identify concerns of family members of Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) as far as care related to using technology, and to discuss nurses' performance in the face of these concerns.
Methodology: Qualitative descriptive research, developed through February and March 2014, through semi-structured interviews with six family members, caregivers of technology-dependent CSHCN who are followed at a University Hospital in Rio de Janeiro. The setting chosen was the family members' home. Data were submitted to content analysis.
Results: Concerns were distributed in a timeframe, divided between those occurring the moment the family members received the information about the technological device needed, then those which arose while accompanying the child during hospitalization, and finally those that remained after the hospital discharge.
Conclusion: The family needs information and support from nurses, because different concerns emerge throughout the treatment and accompaniment of a technology-dependent child.

Abstract This study aimed to describefamily members’ view of the guidance provided to school-age children undergoing antineoplastic chemotherapy treatment, and to discuss the strategies for providing these children with guidance. It is a qualitative and descriptive study, with semistructured interviews held with 10 families of children undergoing chemotherapy treatment in a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro, in March 2013 – June 2014, using thematic analysis of the information. The data showed that most of the children began chemotherapy treatment without receiving guidance, and that it is the family which is mainly responsible for the guidance. For the family members, the child must be given guidance in relation to the disease, treatment, care with hand and food hygiene, and possible reactions from the chemotherapy. Play resources, such as play, pictures and illustrated books can be used as strategies for providing guidance. It is important to provide guidance to children undergoing chemotherapy treatment using resources which make it possible for them to understand.

Abstract Objective: to develop a risk score for unplanned removal of peripherally inserted central catheter in newborns.
Method: prospective cohort study conducted in a neonatal intensive care unit with newborn babies who underwent 524 catheter insertions. The clinical characteristics of the newborn, catheter insertion and intravenous therapy were tested as risk factors for the unplanned removal of catheters using bivariate analysis. The risk score was developed using logistic regression. Accuracy was internally validated based on the area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve.
Results: the risk score was made up of the following risk factors: transient metabolic disorders; previous insertion of catheter; use of a polyurethane double-lumen catheter; infusion of multiple intravenous solutions through a single-lumen catheter; and tip in a noncentral position. Newborns were classified into three categories of risk of unplanned removal: low (0 to 3 points), moderate (4 to 8 points), and high (≥ 9 points). Accuracy was 0.76.
Conclusion: the adoption of evidence-based preventative strategies based on the classification and risk factors faced by the newborn is recommended to minimize the occurrence of unplanned removals.
