Abstract Plant extracts or their pure natural constituents have been used traditionally for thousands of years for treating diseases with considerable success in India and other Asian countries. In addition, they have also been used as complements or supplements with conventional medicine. This book discusses the latest research in the application of combination therapy, namely herbs and drugs, in the treatment of a range of communicable and non-communicable diseases to achieve a synergistic effect. This synergy may help in reducing the amount of drug, its toxicity, side effects, and development of resistance as well as improve its efficacy. The book also discusses the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic parameters, experimental tools to determine the impact of combination, computational approaches to identify synergy, statistical analysis of data, and clinical and regulatory issues. The book is useful for researchers in the fields of pharmacology, pharmacy and medicinal chemistry and those working in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries. This book could open up new strategies to focus on multiple targets to combat complex diseases unlike the single targeted drugs that are being currently marketed by the pharmaceuticals industries.

Abstract Obesity is a chronic lifestyle issue with devastating results. Behavioral changes are one of the initial lines of management strategies for obesity, but they are not very efficient management strategies. Many people also use surgical intervention to maintain a healthy weight, now considered to be the most common and effective obesity management. Chemically synthesized medicines fill the gap between lifestyle interventions and minimally invasive surgical management of obesity. The most common issue associated with monotherapy without side effects is its moderate effectiveness and higher dose requirement. Combination therapy is already used for many serious and complicated disease treatments and management and has shown efficacy as well. Generally, we use two or more medicines with different mechanisms of action for a better effect. The commonly used combination therapy for obesity management includes low-dose phentermine and prolonged and slow-releasing mechanism topiramate; naltrexone, and bupropion. Phentermine with inhibitors of Na-glucose cotransporter-2 or glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists with gastric hormone or Na-glucose cotransporter-2 are two more viable combo therapy. This combination strategy aims to achieve success in bariatric surgery and the scientific community is working in this direction.

Abstract Dear Editor, I am writing to express my thoughts on the recent paper titled "Use of Dairy Products in People Living with Diabetes." As someone who is deeply concerned about the well-being of individuals with diabetes and the evolving landscape of dietary recommendations for managing this condition, I found this research to be both informative and timely.1 Dairy product consumption could impact the susceptibility to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but the results from different studies have been contradictory. Additionally, there has been limited exploration of the wide range of dairy product types. A slight elevation in daily consumption of dairy items like low-fat dairy, cheese, and yogurt might play a role in T2DM prevention. However, this hypothesis requires validation through randomized controlled trials.2 The paper provides a comprehensive overview of the role of dairy products in the diets of people living with diabetes. It is clear that dietary choices play a crucial role in managing blood glucose levels and overall health for those with diabetes. While the authors acknowledge the potential benefits of dairy consumption, such as the rich source of essential nutrients like calcium and vitamin D, they also highlight some of the challenges and concerns related to dairy consumption among this population. Continues.

Abstract The bacterial infection is one of the major health issues throughout the world. To protect humans from the infection and infectious agents, it is important to understand the mechanism of interaction of pathogens along with their susceptible hosts. This will help us to develop a novel strategy for designing effective new drugs or vaccines. As iron is an essential metal ion required for all the living systems for their growth, as well, it is needed by pathogenic bacterial cells for their growth and development inside host tissues. To get iron from the host tissues, microbes developed an iron-chelating system called siderophore and also corresponding receptors. Siderophores are low molecular weight organic complex produced by different strains of bacteria for the procurement of iron from the environment or host body under the iron deficient-conditions. Mostly in the environment at physiological pH, the iron is present in the ferric ionic form (Fe3+), which is water- insoluble and thus inaccessible for them. Such a condition promotes the generation of siderophores. These siderophores have been used in different areas such as agriculture, treatment of diseases, culture the unculturable strains of bacteria, promotion of plant growth, controlling phytopathogens, detoxification of heavy metal contamination, etc. In the medical field, siderophores can be used as "Trojan Horse Strategy", which forms a complex with antibiotics and also delivers these antibiotics to the desired locations, especially in antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The promising application of siderophore-based use of antibiotics for the management of bacterial resistance can be strategies to be used.
