Abstract The objective of this research is to enhance the high-temperature antirutting and antiaging characteristics of bioasphalt. In this study, silica fume (SF) was selected to modify bioasphalt. The dosage of bio-oil in bioasphalt was 5%, and the dosage of SF was 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10% of bioasphalt. The high- and low-temperature characteristics, aging resistance, and temperature sensitivity of Bio + SF were evaluated by temperature sweep (TS), the multiple stress creep recovery (MSCR) test, the bending beam rheology (BBR) test, and the viscosity test. Meanwhile, the road behavior of the Bio + SF mixture was evaluated using the rutting test, low-temperature bending beam test, freeze-thaw splitting test, and fatigue test. The experimental results showed that the dosage of SF could enhance the high-temperature rutting resistance, aging resistance, and temperature stability of bioasphalt. The higher the dosage of SF, the more significant the enhancement effect. However, incorporating SF weakened bioasphalt's low-temperature cracking resistance properties. When the SF dosage was less than 8%, the low-temperature cracking resistance of Bio + SF was still superior to that of matrix asphalt. Compared with matrix asphalt mixtures, the dynamic stability, destructive strain, freeze-thaw splitting strength ratio, and fatigue life of 5%Bio + 8%SF mixtures increased by 38.4%, 49.1%, 5.9%, and 68.9%, respectively. This study demonstrates that the development of SF-modified bioasphalt could meet the technical requirements of highway engineering. Using SF and bio-oil could decrease the consumption of natural resources and positively reduce environmental pollution.

Abstract Due to the notable disparities in the physical and chemical characteristics between titanium and steel, the direct fusion of titanium/steel bimetallic sheets results in a considerable formation of fragile intermetallic compounds, making it difficult to achieve excellent metallurgical welded joints. In this study, a multi-principal powder of CoCrNiMn was designed and utilized as a filler material in the welding of the TA1/Q345 bimetallic sheet. It was expected that the in situ formation of Fe

Abstract Single-atom catalysts (SACs), due to their maximum atomic utilization rate, show tremendous potential for application in the electrocatalytic synthesis of ammonia from nitrate. Yet, the development of superior supports that preserve the high selectivity, activity, and stability of SACs remains an imperative challenge. In this work, based on first-principles calculations and tight-binding (TB) model analysis, a new two-dimensional (2D) carbon nitride monolayer, C

Abstract [Objective] The establishment of National Key Ecological Functional Areas (NKEFAs) is one of the ecological policies with wide coverage and important impact on the ecological environment in China in recent years. Exploring the impact of NKEFAs on local residents’ income is crucial for the sustainability of the policy and the balance between protection and development. [Methods] In this study, the response of local rural residents’ income to NKEFAs establishment from 2007 to 2018 was investigated at the county scale based on the propensity score matchingdifference-in-differences (PSM-DID) model, taking the establishment of the NKEFAs as a quasi-natural experiment. [Results] The results show that, in general, the establishment of the NKEFAs had significantly increased the income of local rural residents. Compared with counties not designated as the NKEFA, the per capita income of rural residents in counties designated as the NKEFA increased by 3.6%. However, significant spatial heterogeneities existed. The NKEFAs in western China had a significant positive impact on the income of rural residents, with their income increasing by 4.9%, while the NKEFAs in the eastern and central regions had no significant impact on the income of rural residents. This study further examined the differences in the impact among four different types of ecological functional zones: the establishment of soil and water conservation type and biodiversity protection type of NKEFAs had significantly increased the income of rural residents, with enhancements of 2.8% and 10.6%, respectively. But the establishment of water conservation type and windbreak and sand fixation type of NKEFAs reduced the income of local rural residents. [Conclusion] Therefore, the establishment of the NKEFAs helped achieve poverty reduction in general. The country needs to further implement policies according to local conditions and strive to achieve a “win-win” situation between ecological protection and social and economic development in the future.

Abstract Ferroptosis has received increasing attention as a novel nonapoptotic programmed death. Recently, iron-based nanomaterials have been extensively exploited for efficient tumor ferroptosis therapy, as they directly release high concentrations of iron and increase intracellular reactive oxygen species levels. Breast cancer is one of the commonest malignant tumors in women; inhibiting breast cancer cell proliferation through activating the ferroptosis pathway could be a potential new target for patient treatment. Here, we briefly introduce the background of ferroptosis and systematically review the current cancer therapeutic strategies based on iron-based ferroptosis inducers. Finally, we summarize the advantages of these various ferroptosis inducers and shed light on future perspectives. This review aims to provide better guidance for the development of iron-based nanomaterial ferroptosis inducers.

Abstract Macrophages are crucial in the progression of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). In the atherosclerotic lesions, macrophages play a central role in maintaining inflammatory response, promoting plaque development, and facilitating thrombosis. Increasing studies indicate that metabolic reprogramming and immune response mediate macrophage functional changes in all stages of atherosclerosis. In this review article, we explain how metabolic changes in glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, the tricarboxylic acid cycle, fatty acid synthesis, fatty acid oxidation, and cholesterol metabolism regulate macrophage function in atherosclerosis. We discuss how immune response to oxidized lipids regulate macrophage function in atherosclerosis. Additionally, we explore how abnormal metabolism leads to macrophage mitochondrial dysfunction in atherosclerosis.

Abstract Magnetic skyrmions, topologically nontrivial whirling spin textures at nanometer scales, have emerged as potential information carriers for spintronic devices. The ability to efficiently create and erase magnetic skyrmions is vital yet challenging for such applications. Based on first-principles studies, we find that switching between intrinsic magnetic skyrmion and high-temperature ferromagnetic states can be achieved in the two-dimensional van der Waals (vdW) multiferroic heterostructure CrSeI/In
