Abstract A significant number of ancient landslides with double or multi-sliding zones exist in reservoir areas. However, understanding large-scale reservoir landslides with double-sliding zones remains limited due to the challenges of studying deformation along the sliding zone independently from surface deformation. In this study, the seepage and deformation characteristics of the Taping landslide were obtained through field investigations and long-term in-situ monitoring. For the first time, hydrological factors influencing double-sliding zones were revealed using an attribute reduction algorithm based on long-term field data. The results indicate that the Taping landslide undergoes significant step-like consistent creep deformation, exhibiting failure along double-sliding zones. For the toe part, reservoir water level (RWL) and precipitation are two critical hydrological factors triggering deformation. Shallow sliding is more susceptible to rainfall, while the deep sliding zone is more affected by RWL variations. In the rear part, precipitation has a greater impact than RWL. Daily precipitation is the primary hydrological factor affecting slope movement along the shallow sliding zone. However, accumulated precipitation over the previous seven days is the most crucial factor influencing slope movement along the deep sliding zone. During the RWL drawdown period, shallow sliding initially occurs at the toe, induced by the de-buttressing effect, while deep sliding occurs after the RWL reaches 145 m, induced by the downslope seepage force. Local damage and failure at the toe provide space for the instability of the rear part, reducing the anti-sliding force. Consequently, failure extends to the rear part. The findings of this study hold significant implications for gaining a deeper understanding of the deformation mechanisms of large-scale reservoir landslides with double-sliding zones and improving landslide management and mitigation strategies in reservoir area.

Abstract The effects of light elements on the elastic properties of disordered binary hcp-Fe alloys were investigated at high pressures using plane-wave density functional theory combined with the Monte Carlo special quasi-random structure method. We found that the increase in the O content in hcp-Fe had a more pronounced effect on the sound velocity than Si, S, and C. The longitudinal wave velocity was decreased by ∼ 6% with 2% O content, which was a much greater decrease than the values of 0.6% and 2% induced by the same content of Si and S, respectively, under high pressures. Compared with the other three light elements, the longitudinal wave velocity of the Fe-C alloy exhibited the most gradual decreasing with increasing C content. In addition, the effects of different O and S contents on the anisotropy of hcp-Fe alloys strongly depended on the variation in pressure, whereas the pressure only slightly affected the anisotropy of Fe-Si alloy systems.

Abstract Spider silk is self-assembled from full-length silk proteins, and some silk protein fragments can also form silk-like fibers in vitro. However, the mechanism underlying the silk fiber formation is not understood well. In this study, we investigated the fiber formation of a single repetitive domain (RP) from a minor ampullate silk protein (MiSp). Our findings revealed that pH and salt concentration affect not only the stability of MiSp-RP but also its self-assembly into fibers and aggregates. Using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, we solved the three-dimensional (3D) structure of MiSp RP in aqueous solution. On the basis of the structure and mutagenesis, we revealed that charge-dipole interactions are responsible for the pH- and salt-dependent properties of MiSp-RP. Our results indicate that fiber formation is regulated by a delicate balance between intermolecular and intramolecular interactions, rather than by the protein stability alone. These findings have implications for the design of silk proteins for mass production of spider silk.

Abstract Photoactive conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) as heterogeneous photocatalysts provide a sustainable alternative to classical metal-based semiconductor photosensitizers. However, previously reported CMPs are typically synthesized through metal catalyzed coupling reactions, which bears product separation, but also increases the price of materials. Abstract Minichromosome Maintenance Complex Component 4 (MCM4) is a vital component of the mini-chromosome maintenance complex family, crucial for initiating the replication of eukaryotic genomes. Recently, there has been a growing interest in investigating the significance of MCM4 in different types of cancer. Despite the existing research on this topic, a comprehensive analysis of MCM4 across various cancer types has been lacking. This study aims to bridge this knowledge gap by presenting a thorough pan-cancer analysis of MCM4, shedding light on its functional implications and potential clinical applications. The study utilized multi-omics samples from various databases. Bioinformatic tools were employed to explore the expression profiles, genetic alterations, phosphorylation states, immune cell infiltration patterns, immune subtypes, functional enrichment, disease prognosis, as well as the diagnostic potential of MCM4 and its responsiveness to drugs in a range of cancers. Our research demonstrates that MCM4 is closely associated with the oncogenesis, prognosis and diagnosis of various tumors and proposes that MCM4 may function as a potential biomarker in pan-cancer, providing a deeper understanding of its potential role in cancer development and treatment.
