    Abstract Background: As an antioxidant, vitamin E (VitE) may benefit the erythrocytes by protecting glutathione from oxidation by free radicals and peroxide-generating processes.
    Methods: We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement guidelines when reporting this systematic review. We searched 6 electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library) until May 8, 2022. We included all relevant studies. According to the study design, the Cochrane assessment tool (Risk of Bias 2), Risk Of Bias In Non-randomized Studies - of Interventions checklists, and National Institutes of Health tools were used to assess the risk of bias.Continuous data were pooled as a mean difference (MD) with a relative 95% confidence interval. The protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42022333848).
    Results: Six studies were included in the meta-analysis with a total of 181 patients. Compared with the control group, VitE significantly improved the hemoglobin level for chronic hemolysis (MD = 2.72 g/dL, P < .0001) and for acute hemolysis (MD = 1.18 g/dL, P < .0001). It also decreased the reticulocyte level for chronic hemolysis (MD = -1.39 P < .0001) and for acute hemolysis (MD = -1.42%, P < .0001). For before and after studies, the use of VitE significantly improved the level of packed cell volume (MD = 0.56%, P < .00001), red blood cell half-life (MD = 2.19 days, P < .0001), and decreased the reticulocytes level (MD = -1.41%, P < .00001).
    Conclusion: Among patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, VitE might provide benefits such as increasing the hemoglobin, packed cell volume levels, red blood cell half-life, and decreasing the reticulocyte level, so reducing hemolysis. Further high-quality, well-designed randomized controlled trials are recommended.

    Abstract Management of heavily calcified lesions during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is often associated with high incidence of complications and long-term adverse outcomes. There is growing evidence of the efficacy of intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) in de novo coronary lesion preparation; however, little experience has been documented within freshly deployed stent underexpansion. We report a 66-year-old male with a marked stent underexpansion despite extensive lesion preparation due to severe underlying calcification. The stent was resistant to balloon postdilatation; therefore, IVL was applied, resulting in excellent stent expansion. IVL could be considered for treating acute stent underexpansion caused by severe underlying calcification.

    Abstract A single-centre retrospective observational study aimed at observing the outcomes of using DEB in ACS patients. All-comer ninety patients were included with a follow-up of 12-36 months. DEBs were deployed successfully yielding TIMI 3 without significant coronary dissection. MACE was 1.1% and 3.3% for 30 days and 12-36 months respectively.

    Abstract COVID-19 is a new viral infection that has a significant impact on global health and economy. Because of its rapid spread worldwide, it may influence the prognosis of other medical conditions, such as ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We report a case of a 58-year female patient admitted with an infero-posterior STEMI on the background of recently positive COVID-19 swab. Reperfusion was attempted through primary PCI but unfortunately failed to restore coronary blood flow due to massive thrombotic burden despite several attempts of balloon dilatation and aspiration thrombectomy. She sadly died later on because of hemodynamic deterioration. This scenario raises concerns about Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETS) which might potentially have propagated inflammation and thrombosis via platelets' aggregation leading to enhanced coagulopathy and massive coronary thrombosis. Therefore, we suggest primary PCI as the first-choice of revascularization in patients with combined COVID-19 and STEMI. Additionally, we emphasize on the importance of using the potent new generation P2Y12 inhibitors along with GPIIb/IIIa inhibitors in every STEMI patient with COVID-19 to achieve favorable conditions for primary PCI as well as favorable outcomes after stent implantation.

    Abstract Up to 50% of amputees abandon their prostheses, partly due to rapid degradation of the control systems, which require frequent recalibration. The goal of this study was to develop a Kalman filter-based approach to decoding motoneuron activity to identify movement kinematics and thereby provide stable, long-term, accurate, real-time decoding. The Kalman filter-based decoder was examined via biologically varied datasets generated from a high-fidelity computational model of the spinal motoneuron pool. The estimated movement kinematics controlled a simulated MuJoCo prosthetic hand. This clear-box approach showed successful estimation of hand movements under eight varied physiological conditions with no retraining. The mean correlation coefficient of 0.98 and mean normalized root mean square error of 0.06 over these eight datasets provide proof of concept that this decoder would improve long-term integrity of performance while performing new, untrained movements. Additionally, the decoder operated in real-time (~0.3 ms). Further results include robust performance of the Kalman filter when re-trained to more severe post-amputation limitations in the type and number of motoneurons remaining. An additional analysis shows that the decoder achieves better accuracy when using the firing of individual motoneurons as input, compared to using aggregate pool firing. Moreover, the decoder demonstrated robustness to noise affecting both the trained decoder parameters and the decoded motoneuron activity. These results demonstrate the utility of a proof of concept Kalman filter decoder that can support prosthetics' control systems to maintain accurate and stable real-time movement performance.
